We were very upset at the speed some members were travelling , even when towing caravans.
I spoke to the warden who said he had given two warnings the day before.
I appreciate the staff have to see this to take action which is not always possible but maybe the Club itself should take a closer look at this site.
We were on pitch 165 and that stretch and the road behind was where we saw most vehicles over 5mph.
Visited Coniston last week, if I’d realised it was so big I’d probably not have, what a mistake that would have been!
Didn’t give any impression of being a bigger site as vans and m/h’s pitches were amongst lots of ‘cul de sacs’ with trees and bushes giving lots of privacy. Brilliant for walking either into Coniston or further, whatever takes your fancy.
Spotless facilities and very friendly, helpful wardens, would definitely go back.
Great site, wonderful staff who are very very friendly. Approach roads very narrow and care needed to navigate them. Well kept site with direct access to Lakeside and steady walk in to Coniston. Will be back later this year.
Stayed here during the Whit break with family. Two infants who found the site truly memorable. Age appropriate playground and easy access to the lake and walks along the lakeside. I loved the freedom the wardens give to locate the outfit according to your pitch. The wardens had coned off a pitch for us because of the size of the outfit and it being such a busy period. It was an amazing pitch with super views and some sun despite the size of the surrounding trees. I would recommend a visit to the site if you want easy access to a plethora of activities. Only downside the speed of some drivers on the site and youngsters on bikes down the hill!
We've stopped here twice now and think its a lovely site. The last time was over bank holiday weekend, I took my son for 2 nights, and then "her indoors" ,came for 2 nights. Both of them loved it.
The site is big and it was a little difficult to find a pitch at first because we arrived on the friday night around 7pm. Me and the boy found a pitch which was quite private on its own, it was great. The only slight downside transpired the next day when the sun came out, we couldn't sit in the sun there because of the tree cover, it was very shaded, which to some would be a bonus I guess. Theres other pitches that get the sun though, but I didn't think about that at the time of arrival, luckily when the Mrs arrived 2 days later, she didn't nag me too much about it, I just topped up her wine and told her how much id missed her.
The toilet and shower blocks are kept spotlessly clean.
The site is a good 40min walk from coniston town, and about a 10min walk to the lake. If you plan to walk into coniston, head down to the very bottom of the site, through the gate and take the track through coniston hall camp site, just follow the path and you'll eventually get to coniston without having to walk on the main road. Just a word of warning here though, if you've already plied your better half with wine in the caravan and then top that up with more wine in the various lovely pubs in coniston, the walk back seems to be twice as far.
In the directory it states the this site is a forest with open glades so when I arrived and saw the forest I just asked the lady at reception if all the pitches were under trees her answer to me was " the clue is in the name Coppice so its a forest" I said in the book it states there are open glades to which she pointed out that just means small breaks in the trees where the light comes through. Well if you look up the definition of open glade it clearly states open clear areas in a forest. We did find a pitch in a bit of a clearing but I would not go there again as do not want to park under trees in the shade. The site is a fair walk from the lake and the town if you have any walking problems you need to be fit. Toilets and showers were immaculate but closed very early for cleaning around 10am for 90 mins I believe it was so time your shower etc right.
Stayed at Coniston last week for two nights. Large site in two halves, we chose to be down by the lake. Very clean facilities as you would expect. Great location for exploring southern lakes.
Beautiful, perfect location! Was busy over the weekend but still peaceful. 5 min to walk down to Coniston Water. So much to do in the area, Coniston itself and John Ruskin museum, steam boat Gondola on Coniston Water, Tarn Hows, Hawshead and Hill Top, Lake Windermere and Ambleside, all very close by. Owls hooting at night. Spotlessly clean. Fish & chips van was good, too.
From the minute you arrive you cant hep being impressed. A wonderful quiet and beautiful location with lovely walks along the lake to Coniston and easy access to the ferry. Really helpful staff who obviously take great pride in their site. The amenities are brilliant...spotless and well cared for. Its a large site, but because of the layout it feels private and beautiful. Will be back soon!
Friendly welcome, great location, 5 mins walk down to Coniston Water. Very peaceful! Owls hooting at night 😃 Toilet block spotlessly clean, washing machines and dryers useful. Fish & Chips van near reception some evenings a pleasant surprise. I'll certainly want to visit again!
