Excellent Quiet Stay at the right time

We stayed here for 5 nights up to the Thursday before Good Friday. The site is in an excellent location for the south and central lakes and perfect for getting out and about in the lakes. A short walk down to the lake at Coniston out of the bottom of the site and across a couple of fields. I even ventured 2 runs down to the lake and back but be aware the drop from the top of the site where we were pitched to the lake was 85m! The site is huge but doesnt feel like it. Pitches on the most part were large although we passed a few odd shaped pitches which would have been a struggle. The pitches are mostly within the trees and give a nice aspect. Some are open but we avoided these. Some are near the play areas and even though we have 3 kids we avoided these too. The site was extremely quiet for being easter BUT we couldnt stay the weekend as the site was fully booked. Speaking to the wardens they were expecting 60 caravans on the thursday and 110 on good friday!! As usual a few rude club members ignored the rules and were pulling into site at 10.15 when we were pulling out - why!!!!? road from Ulverston to Torver was ok but tight in places and wouldnt reccomend a great speed. A bus came hurtling round a corner at one point on the wrong side of the road and it was a close call. We will be visiting the site again!

Lovely wooded site on the edge of the lake

We stayed here over the Easter weekend and had a fabulous time, even in the rain! We stayed five nights and had some lovely walks from the campsite and some fabulous food in the pubs in Coniston. The facilities are fantastic and clean, the pitches are varied is shape and size which makes for a lovely atmosphere.

Brilliant Easter week

Just returned from a weeks stay at this site and had a great visit. The park is in an excellent location in a lovely wooded surrounding, the shower block was spotless and wardens very helpful and friendly. Easy access to the lake and pier and a hill walkers paradise at your doorstep. The village was lovely with dog friendly pubs and got excellent fish and chips from the chip van on site.Ambleside is a short drive away for a nice day out as is Broughton on Furness. There are numerous walks from the campsite We climbed the old man of Coniston, went up to leven waters and the Coppermines and did the tarn Hows If you are coming from the north don’t use your Sat nav as it took us a merry dance on very winding country roads in our motorhome it would have been worse if towing a caravan ,head for Kendal and cut off at Newby Bridge we came home that way and it was much easier. Lovely part of the lakes and we will definitely return in the summer .

Cracking Coniston!

We stayed at this caravan site for five nights. It was my wife's first time in the Lakes, and the staff could not have been better. Exceptional welcome and clear, precise information, fabulous setting, and the cleanest toilets I have seen outside of my own home!! There was ample information on local stuff, and the signs around the site were clear, informative and helpful. It was a very peaceful site, even with a lot of young children, who delighted in the many things there were for them to do. Our small dog was very well catered for, and all in all a marvelous place to stay. Highly recommended as a gateway to the South-Western Lakes, Coniston, The Old Man, etc.

Great site and location

Went over the easter period for 3 nights. Can't fault the site, nice and clean and all pitches quirky in a good way with loads of space. Will be going back in the summer. Good pubs in Coniston all dog friendly and good food in the Black Bull..

So very helpful...definitely recommend

I have limited mobility and rang the site when booking to request a pitch relatively close to one of the facilities blocks if at all possible. The staff were brilliant both on the phone and also when I arrived - and my pitch was literally next door to the facilities! Wonderful! Our stay was during March - and not the best part of March, snow and ice - but the staff kept the entrance to the facilities clear and accessible even for someone as unstable on their feet as me. The approach roads to this site are quite narrow for the last few miles but once on site there are lots of different pitch layouts to suit most tastes - but be aware that the pitches are not particularly level, although they are hardstanding. We loved our stay and will definitely be back. Cannot praise the staff enough, they are lovely!

Lovely visit, excellent facilities, helpful staff. Thoroughly recommended

We stayed mid March Monday to Saturday prior to school break. We were a little late arriving but Avril was there to welcome us, the site is well equipped with late arrivals areas but as we arrived just after tea time were able to make our way onto site. The site is well equipped for motor homes and caravans alike with several service areas including motor home service points as well. Due to the time of year/week we pretty much had our pick of pitches which helped, so cant comment on what its like at busier times. We located ourselves near the bottom play area and utility block (pitch 123) and have to say the facilities were fantastic, well set up, plenty of room and very clean. Our issue (ours not the sites) was that it was our first time away in the family motor home and we hadn't yet invested in some levelling blocks, the pitches were shale and almost level but if you're in a van of some sort invest in a pair of levelling blocks before hand. The site makes it clear that they are developing a few pitches for 'glamping', this work did not impact on us at all, but if you are going at a busy time and are pressed for where to pitch this should be taken in to account. We went with out 3 year old girl and baby boy, and can say that the Family bath room in the utility block was very useful, though we near enough had exclusive use of it as at this time of the year think we were the only ones with youngsters. We can wholeheartedly recommend the site and the area in general for a relaxing break, the walk to Coniston was lovely (the one out the bottom of the site and along the water past Coniston hall), and if you want to travel a bit further afield you're not far from Windemere. Mark and Jannet, Carol and Chris were very friendly as well and made us feel very welcome. Thanks Mark for the chat and advice, and thanks Jannet for the Tourer Explorer treasure hunt!

First Weekend Away

We recently joined the Caravan & Motorhome Club having just acquired a motorhome. I have always wanted to visit the Lake District and came across this site which provided everything we wanted - quiet location, near water and plenty to do within walking distance. We arrived in the dark as the journey up from North Wales took a bit longer than we had anticipated but we were met with a very warm welcome at Reception. We decided to choose a pitch pretty close to the walkway down to the lake side and there were plenty to choose from. The site is nicely laid out and I can imagine it's lovely in the summer when the trees are covered in leaves. The toilet block is extremely well maintained and warm with great showers. The hairdryers were not brilliant however - would have been happier using my own but there were no plug sockets which is fair enough. We met some lovely friendly people on the site when we went out to walk to Coniston which is on a flat path (muddy in places) which meanders through farm land with great view of the lake. Coniston village is lovely - we visited the graves of John Ruskin and Donald Campbell before catching the bus to Ambleside. I would definitely return to this site although I can imagine it's realy busy in the summer months.

Snow Stopping Us

2nd trip of the year and one I was looking forward to. Although very cold and a little bit of snow on the way up we got there to a warm welcome. The site was restricted pitching but nicely laid out. We found a nice pitch and settled in for a few days. Facilities were very clean . Short walk to the Lake beautiful scenery with the back drop of the Mountains to top it off. Great for walks fantastic pup and food at Torver only 20/30mins depending on the route taken. Will visit again.

Great winter weekend

This was our first visit to this campsite. With limited pitches open in February, the site was full but very quiet, which suited us. Facilities were great - all very clean and tidy. Coniston itself is about a 40 mins walk alongside the lake, with good pub and restaurant facilities. Will visit again.
