A hidden gem.

First visit to this site. Had read previous reviews so was not quite sure what we would find but found this site to be a lovely surprise even though tucked behind a hospital. Very handy for London, Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City. We will return as a great base for exploring London etc. Site was clean and tidy-warden was very friendly.

Highly Recommended

As we aren't vastly experienced caravaners we set off on every jaunt with a mixture of excitement and nervousness. After reading some of the less encouraging reviews on here we couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised upon arrival. The directions given were spot on and towing was easy. The roads were all fine and signage was clear. This is such a tranquil site, quiet and peaceful although not far from the madding crowd. The facilities as you would expect from any CC site were impeccable. Being just off the A1 this is a perfect en route stopover and also handy for London. For our trips into the capital we decided to park at High Barnet (£5.20 for the day) and tube it in - so easy. Didn't rate 5 stars for "Good For Families" as you might expect a little play area etc for that. There were plenty of children buzzing about on bicylces and scooters all having a great time. More importantly for our kids the wifi and TV worked fine! We are so pleased to have found this little gem and will certainly return.

Handy for London

Our second visit to this site, it has changed a lot since our 1st visit though. Pitches are up to the usual standard, nice to have hedges round to define the pitch, though disapointed that we had the choice of 3 as we ticked no awning, even though the site was only half full, maybe we need to book with an awning to get more choice even though we do not put one up for less than 2 week visits? We found the showers to be a little lacking, need either new shower heads or a good clean. Wardens wern't around much, maybe because it was Easter, but there always seemed to be a sign on the door 'ring for assistance' even though there were 4 wardens on site. Disapointed that there are no signs to this site, we nearly missed the entrance as you do not see the sign until you are on the entrance.

Excellent site.

Stayed for three nights, have stayed many times before and as usual the site was excellent.  So close to Welwyn and good links to London.  Site as always clean and well run, despite a burst water main in the shower block!  Some reviews say the facilities are a bit dated and I suppose they are but the cleanliness is first rate and that counts for a lot.

One night stay

We only stayed one night to break our journey down to Fairlight Wood site near Hastings. It was perfect for that purpose being an easy short drive from the A1. Despite it being on the outskirts of Welwyn Garden city the site was so quiet and we were able to have a lovely walk in the woods straight from the site which was very welcome after a long drive. Unfortunately next morning there was a burst pipe in the toilet block which meant there were no facilities available and we hadn't set up as we were only there overnight. Despite this hitch we would definitely use the site again as a base for visiting London or for stopover when going further south or to Europe.

Does what it needs to

A perfectly adequate site-not in a pretty town but convenient to travel by train to london. Good clean facilities as expected from any CC site. The warden lacked some warmth on our arrival, but was not overtly unfriendly. The site is quiet during the day but busier in the evening. The facilities block is small, not sure how it would cope when the site is busy. The wash up facilities are a bit sparse-just 3 sinks, in a sort of covered area, no hooks to hang your coat, and cold, but dry at least. There is a nice dog walk through adjacent woods, and easy access from the motorways. Will use again as convenient.Adjacent caravan store is not petty to look at-there are washing facilities for those vans but these cannot be used by visitors-why not?! They are often unused and we would value the chance to clean our motorhome in the better weather.

Second Visit

Stayed for a couple of nights again mid March.  Usual CC facilities. Heed the warnings about the WiFi.....if you have a 4G smartphone use that, the signal is very good and it's lightening fast.  Nice and handy for visiting London, which is why we came.....drove our Motorhome from here to High Barnet underground station, 20 min drive max, parking £2 all day.  We will very likely be back next time we want to visit London.

A bit noisy

Commonswood is like most C.C. Sites, well maintained, clean facilities and friendly wardens. It is an ideal base for visiting London and on a handy bus route to St. Albans ( and even Heathrow)  On the down side it's closeness to the A1 means some road noise.

Very pleased

First site I have stayed at. Very friendly welcome and nice clean facilities. Only downside was no late check in, so have to arrive before 2000hrs which for me personally isn't that easy. Overall though couldn't have asked for a better site.
