Second Visit to Clumber Park

This was our second visit to the Clumber Park site, very friendly staff in a beautiful location and spotless facilities, ideal for families, dogs, cycling, walking or just relaxing. We will be back again.

Great for dogs and walking

We were a little worried about some of the reviews but we were received by helpful wardens and chose our site, set up the awning and settled down to 10 days of relaxation with our 2 Spinones and our Siamese cat. The layout of the site is very good and despite torrential rain the ground drained well even though we were on grass. Walking the dogs was an adventure in the forest which we all loved and our cat also enjoyed a discreet 'hunt' along the forest edge away from 'dog-eyes'. Waking up to a glorious dawn chorus and seeing a variety of birds was lovely. Even though the weather was so very wet for 6 days and many people left we stayed on and enjoyed the tranquility. The only drawback I would say is a lack of local pubs to go to for a lunchtime drink and packet of crisps, a small loss. We shall definitely return to Clumber Park.

Wonderful site

I am visiting this site again tomorrow and always book for over the firework season. It is good for walking and cycling. Two lovely National Trust cafes within a short walking distance. I have never seen dogs running round and mine are always tied up. As for wifi and mobiles phones, I think we can all manage without them for a few days. There is a coin phone box on site and I am sure the staff will help you out in an emergency. As for mentioning flooded pitches when there has been heavy rain - not necessary as none of us can help what the weather is like.

Nice Site, let down by wi-fi, tv reception and mobile phone signal

We stayed on this site on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th June. The site is large with some nicely positioned pitches. We arrived at 6.30pm, which was too late to secure a hard standing pitch, but the grass pitches are perfectly adequate and reasonably level. The staff were all exceptionally helpful and friendly! The toilet and shower blocks were very clean and tidy. However, the wi-fi is poor (and why in this day and age do the Caravan Club charge extre for its use?), tv reception is not good and the mobile phone signal (EE) is non-existent. On this basis, we won't be returning.

Great stay, we will be back.

I am mystified by previous reviews. We stayed from 6-12 June and had a wonderful time apart from lack of wifi. This was annoying as we had just paid £25 for a years access. There was some torrential rain while we were there and quite a bit of water lying on some pitches but this seemed to soon drain away. We certainly didn't experience any dogs wandering around or speeding cars! In fact it was a lovely peaceful site. It is in a great location surrounded by beautiful forest in which to walk and cycle and the walled garden is certainly worth a visit as is the coffee van by the lake at Hardwick village. I do think the facilities need updating as there were very few showers and toilets for the number of pitches. For a cost of £23 per night I would expect better facilities as many CLs (which we tend to use a lot now) often have two or more showers and toilets for only five pitches and for around £14 per night.

Flooded pitches, no wifi, dogs running loose......

Stayed on site, 9-13 June. In that time we were flooded 5 times in our awning to depth of 3-4 inches. Not necessarily due to heavy rain. All roads flooded and many other pitches waterlogged also. We also encountered several dogs roaming site without owners and speeding cars all over the site, with and without outfits. Motor caravans being the worst. As for the lack of wifi, I noticed it worked ok around the site office ok!!!. Such a shame, because this site could be really nice if better managed. I have been a member for over 27 years and never come across a site like this. Standards are slipping CC, sort it out. Rant over.

Friendly wardens

Came last year and didn't find the wardens particularly friendly. Completely different this year. Lovely wardens. Warned us about bike thefts took our order for a newspaper Twice we have pitched near the children's playground and on neither occasion has it been a problem . Other than the dawn chorus there aren't many nicer sounds than kids having a good time. All in all a good friendly welcoming site

Bike Shed

PUT YOUR BIKES IN THE LOCK UP SHED PROVIDED!! We had our bikes stolen over night -and we weren't the only ones or the first!! We've camped/caravaned for over 20 years and never experienced this before - the access through woods is too easy for passers by to access site. If you want peace on this site, park at top or bottom - not in middle surrounding the kids play ground.

Another view

I'm not in the habit of writing reviews, but having read some recent comments about the wardens, I feel I must redress the balance. I think During my visits this year, I have encountered all the wardens and found them to be friendly, chatty and helpful. This site is incredibly busy at weekends and full in school holidays, so that is not the time to come for peace and quiet or a tidy site! The wardens do clean the shower blocks daily, the rest of the time it is incumbent upon visitors to leave them tidy & relatively clean for the next person, sadly many don't! The Wardens cannot be blamed for that!
