We chose this site for a 3 night break as we are new motorhomers ( we have owned a trailer tent and caravans before) and CMC members.
Previously we have tended to prefer cl sites mostly for the peace and quiet .
However ,I can cheerfully say “what a lovely site ,well managed in a charming location.”
The wardens were very friendly and helpful as were the fellow “campers “ .
Pitches were generously spaced and clean.
Facilities were a little dated but maintained in a good condition and kept spotlessly clean.
It was lovely to see children enjoying themselves riding bikes especially after lockdown .
We liked the ease of access and all the beautiful walks from site.
Will definitely visit again.
First Clumber Park Visit
First visit to Clumber Park and the booking in system couldn't have been easier, although we arrived around 1.30pm so there was a bit of a queue. Picked a hard standing site and there were no issues. The band system required for toilet block generally worked well, only kids seemed to not follow it (or didn't understand). Facilities were spot on considering the additional requirements. Was slightly disappointed that the play area was closed, although we understand the reasons why. This did mean kids were zooming about on scooters and bikes throughout the day! Our kids are too young for bikes etc so did mean there wasn't as much to occupy them as we had hoped. But with loads to do in a 20 minute radius during the day it wasn't much problem. Will consider returning in the future!
School Holidays - Beware the Bikes
Firstly - Thank you to the lovely wardens who greeted us with genuine warmth and worked tirelessly to maintain the facilities during these unprecedented times. The site was well kept, with close cut grass and had evidently been re-chipped in some of the hard-standing areas. Fantastic walks with the dog into Clumber Park. Our only issue was with the large groups of cyclists who congregated on the site each evening to race around the pitches at speeds well in excess of 5mph. As ex-teachers we should have known better than to book during school holidays. We like children - it goes with the territory - but this did appear to be unchecked and one evening a youngster had a very close call with our A frame. Clumber Park itself has excellent, well marked cycle trails; perhaps recreational cycle racing could be prohibited on site to ensure safety and enjoyment for all.
Good to be back!
We must send our thanks to all the staff at Clumber Park.
The first day back and 160 arrivals to manage! From a telephone call a few days before to plugging in the Ehu for us it was all very painless and very well managed. Wardens were still checking arrivals in with a smile at 6pm!
We enjoyed the site mainly for cycling this time. A lovely ride through Clumber Park into Sherwood forest and on to the Major oak and the Robin Hood visitors centre. We are happy to use our own facilities so I am not aware of any social distancing issues.
Let us hope we can catch up some of the breaks we have all missed since March. Enjoy your stay.
LOVELY STAY IN STRANGE TIMES
We stayed on Saturday 4th July, which was the opening day after the recent lockdown. The arrival procedures were well organised and efficient, although there needs to be more explained about the wrist band system for the toilet facilities on arrival. We were just told that these were "to monitor use of the toilet block". There was lots of information handed to us on arrival, and signs on the outside of the toilet blocks explaining what to do, but not everyone reads them! Our pitch had a view of the gents entrance to the block. At one point we counted that there were 7 men inside (maximum 3 allowed), but only 1 wrist band on the hook outside!
Despite that it was lovely to stay here again, and it was really peaceful with the playground being closed :-)
Under the circumstances the Wardens have done an excellent job. They were checking around the site very frequently, they were obviously under some pressure, but always had smiles on their faces.
Well done!!!
Weekend Break
After coming here for many years I would like to add a couple of points that we noticed on our short weekend break.
This was the first site that we came to when we got our first caravan, and now 12 years later it appears that the toilet block has been not renovated during this time, it is now looking tired and needs modernising. Other sites (Caravan Club and None CC sites have much nicer toilet blocks), and given that this site is quite higher priced, you don't feel like you are receiving value for your money.
The other thing we noticed is what appeared to be a few families of travelers on the site, with very untidy pitch areas, large families, loud music played late into the night, and kids on bikes everywhere, this was quite worrying at times.
I do enjoy the area and great walking to the Clumber Park visitor centre.
Hopefully the Caravan Club have this site on the horizon for further improvements in 2020.
Great site
This is a great site if you like walking. Wardens keep this site really clean and tidy. I can't think of anything that needs to be improved on. The only problem is not having a mobile phone signal. Not a bad thing though.

Excellent location but toilet block needs some updating
We have been regular visitors here for several years and enjoy the location and the access to the forest and Clumber Park. We have however noticed that the toilet block / shower facilities are showing considerable signs of wear and require refurbishment. The block does not compare well to other club sites such as Harrogate where we also recently stayed. In addition some areas of the forest around the site are being ruined by tipping of site waste (leaves and hard standing material removed in refurbishment of some pitches). There are several areas around the site where this is getting out of hand and will severely damage the trees and wildlife of this woodland site. I hope that something can be done urgently about this, for example remove off site the spoil and compost the leaves instead of dumping them under the trees around the site. As a working biologist I am happy to offer my help and advice if required.
Best wishes, Richard Davies BSc
Wonderful New Year Stop
A fabulous stop for New Year’s Eve. With 2 small children & a dog we wanted a site that was quiet and close to good areas for walking and cycling. Clumber fitted the bill. Extremely peaceful despite being fully booked! The wardens were extremely welcoming friendly and helpful. The facilities were clean & well maintained. Fantastic location for access to NT Clumber Park site with all its trails & great cafe.
Welcome Christmas Stay
The staff could not have been more helpful - arrived Xmas Eve for a 3 night stay and we were offered wine, chocolates and mince pies - thank you! One toilet block temporarily closed but the main block is more than adequate, clean and secure. We love the fact that trees surround the site and are also grouped within it. WC lockdown for cleaning was between 10-11.30am. Do go for walks if you can - the main Clumber VC about 35 minutes or more if you go down the Lime Tree Avenue - no entry charge if walking or cycling - great cafes, two of which on site are dog friendly and great walk around the lake. The walled garden is amazing, free to enter and well worth visiting. Fantastic setting and not far off the A1, though far enough that you would never know on site. Quieter times to visit the site in spring-autumn are Sunday to Thursday as we understand it.
Will return - some previous criticisms of the WCs by others - but we have no problem with them whatsoever.
Thank you
