Wonderful helpful and very hardworking wardens

We stayed at Cheddar in August and the site was full over the Bank Holiday but the wardens were cheerful and never seemed to stop. There were just the two of them but the toilet block was spotless, the rubbish cleared, the grass cut and invading trees and bushes kept under control. Problems on the pitches were sorted out as soon as they were reported. They were cheerful whenever we saw them. Their life must have been made harder in the past by campers from another site next door who would use their well appointed toilet block facilities. A keypad has been fitted to the toilet block doors to make sure that these are reserved for this site's residents. We have seen these at other club sites near parks etc used by the public. This keypad caused me serious problems as I have a weakness in both hands but the wardens solved the problem for me as soon as they realized. They could not have been more helpful or understanding. Mention has been made of the noise from the football ground next door. It is not all the time and only for a short time. Booking into Cheddar, you are not expecting a wildlife retreat. The site is easy walking distance into Cheddar itself and this is more than compensation for the occasional noise of a football game. The wardens have even printed off a notice showing how to walk into Cheddar without having to use the main road. I have only one poor comment to make. The sign on the road for the camp site is among other signs for the Football Club and is easily missed, as we found when a lorry stopped by the traffic was in the road in front of it as we passed by. The directions given in the book are good but if you cannot see the sign, you end up going down the road and turning off as soon as you realize. My husband was faced with a 3 point turn with a caravan in tow. (He managed it but I am glad we had no children in the car to hear what he thought of my navigating !!!) I realize that signage is always difficult but even if the lorry had not been obscuring the sign, the traffic was always so bad at that point that it would have been difficult to see the sign whilst concentrating on the road. Could not a bigger, more obvious sign be placed there?

Beware of football club house late night noise in the playing season

We had a great stay at this site, its a clean , smart and well run site. Our only advise for fellow site users is at weekends the adjacent football club held a couple of late night parties with loud music going on till very late (nearly midnight) this was in September, and I appreciate its during the playing season, so my advice is avoid pitches that back onto club house, during the football season, these are the pitches of lower numbers 1-10 are the closest to the club house. In future stays we will use the far pitches, they have easier toilet/shower block access too. Other wise a great site

Cheddar site

Excellent side sign post could be better positioned (maybe on the left, driving out of town), I missed it and had to try to turn around and go back.

Site itself is good

We recently had an overnight stay at this site. Overall, we found it to be a good site, with helpful and friendly wardens, but we did feel it to be slightly cramped, especially the end on separation between vans - we could hear everything they said in the awning of the van behind ours. Cheddar itself is not great for pedestrians. The car is king here and pedestrians have to tight-rope walk along very narrow pavements, inches from the traffic. In some places, there are no pavements at all. If ever a place was calling out for a by-pass or even a one-way system, this is it. How such a blatantly bad traffic system could still exist in 2017 amazed us and is the only reason that we wouldn't really want to visit again.

A nice site, but limited facilities and expensive

We stayed at the Cheddar for two nights, after having stayed at independent sites on the previous 10 nights; the main reason for staying here was to be close to Cheddar Gorge. The site is clean and tidy, and reasonably spacious - although unlike our other sites the pitches are not sectioned off (either individually or as groups of 5 to 10). The toilet block although clean and warm was very small for the number of pitches. Our main gripe was the price - over £23 a night for two adults - especially given that this was very much at the end of the season. Our previous stays were at ACSI approved sites, which had significantly better facilities for significantly less (£13.50 a night near Dartmouth, £17.50 a night near St Ives). Cannot understand why the C&MC have to charge such high prices!

Just one night

Lovely site with warm and friendly wardens, good access to town and gorge. We only stayed the one night and as we are not football fans we were glad that all was quiet the other side the hedge. We would defiantly stay again.

Great site in lovely location

This was our first visit to Cheddar and we will be back. Great location with a short walk to the village and up to the gorge and caves. Very friendly and helpful wardens, thank you.

Ideal and Central..

This was out third visit which took place over the August bank holiday weekend... with this in mind the nearby football club had serveral nights with as many late night party's.. the noise may have offended some but everyone who wished to attend would have been welcome.. nice people having a happy time!! The site is walking distance from Cheddar village which has supermarkets, pubs and restaurants. Within driving distance the is the spa town of Bath, Glastonbury is also nearby and worth a visit, then there is all singing all dancing Weston Super Mare also a great place to visit with all of its attractions.. The site itself is spotless, the staff are really lovely too.. Thanks to them.. :-) While you're onsite if you are a lover of proper scrumpy cider then Wilkins Cider Farm is a must, hard to find in neary Mudgley, but it has lots of character as does Roger the owner.. Make this site a must on you bucket list.. We just love it... Dave and Jill....

Welcoming

This was our second visit to this pretty well maintained and clean site. After the warm and friendly welcome from Pauline and Keith we had our choice of spacious pitches. At the present time there are diversions on the Strawberry Line Cycle path so it's was not as easy to cycle. There is a great walk by the river to Axbridge where you can get lunch from the pub or tea room. We are looking forward to our next visit in 2018.

Excellent location and great site

Had a great week end of august 2017, found all staff to be friendly and helpful. Location is great as an easy walk into cheddar via a footpath that the staff tell you about when you check in. Also give you information about bus times. Although only 4 showers in the ladies I only had to wait once. We will be coming back for another visit
