Poor site poor staff

We are staying at a campsite in charmouth dorset and travelled a 100 mile round trip to view the site only to be met by a very unhelpful cleaner called pauline who was very agressive after I used a toilet my husband told her we had travelled a long way but she was still very agressive she has now lost the site a 2 wk Aug booking for next year although having seen the site it was not up to standard of caravan club very tightly packed and the service block was in need of updating. The access is via one way track and if 2 vehicles came at same time would have been a problem. Cheddar itself is a nightmare to get into the traffic was horrendous and walking from the site would have been very dangerous. We were very dissapointed and it was a long way to go to be met with such a lack of understanding by the staff member it was completely uncalled for and I'm pleased to say the woodfarm in dorset where we arw staying is a much nicer place to stay it's affiliated to the caravan club and could show cheddar how to treat customers the staff and services are of the highest quality

August Holiday

This is a peaceful site to spend a week or a few days. The facilities are very clean, if a little tired and dated. Although full, the site was quiet. There's a lovely dog walk adjacent to the site. The wardens were knowledgeable about the local area and helpful. There's plenty to do - but beware of the very expensive access to Cheddar Gorge Caves! You can still see the Gorge for free though. Try to find Wilkins Cider Farm - great cider! There's plenty to see and do around and about - do visit Wells and Glastonbury and try to have a trip on the steam train.

Very Clean & Friendly Site

This was our very first Caravan holiday with our caravan in August, 2 adults and 1 teenager. The site was easy to find with very helpful friendly staff. The site was immaculately clean. Upon arrival we went to reception and paid and then entered through the barrier to choose our pitch, once we choses our pitch, you go back to reception to get your barrier pass card for leaving and entering the site. When the office was closed there was always a detailed sign on the door stating where to find the staff. We stayed on pitch 53 which was in a shaded area under some trees which was perfect for us as didn't want to be in direct sun, but there were plenty of sunny spots to choose from aswell. The site was full but very quiet. Paid £2.50 per day for our son to have wifi which to be honest wasn't the best of signals and kept cutting out, also the tv reception for BBC channels was a bit hit and miss but other channels were fine. Cheddar gorge was in walking distance and so was tesco express and sainsbury's. Went to Wookey Hole by car. Fish & Chip Shop was in walking distance. The site facilities were all clearly marked. We would not hesitate to return here, all in all a very good experience for us first timers.

Nice site

Stay Aug 2017. Typical Site and facilities as to what you expect. Walking distance to Cheddar and lots to keep you entertained. My only gripe is I felt the site was over crowned, a sample of quantity over quality. I am not a fan of the car park type sites. But saying that location is key too. I wish the club would move towards greener way.

2nd Time at a Club Site

Youngish couple with 2 dogs. I will repeat what has already been said, great location Sainsbury's and Tesco Express both within 10 minute walk as well as the nearest pub the Bull Inn however that was slightly over priced we thought. An extra 10 minute walk and you are in Chedar Gorge which is a tourist hotspot where there are more places to eat & drink but I would hardly compare it to Blackpool like a previous review. Some great cheese and cider to sample if you fancy it. Nice little walk by the stream if you have dogs by the site. Facilities very neat and tidy. Previous comments mention kids on the site, which there are but people do have kids and they are causing no problems just enjoying themselves. As a newby to caravaning my only negative is the entrance road to the site if a caravan is coming the other way it could turn into a dual to the death, on the way out I got my girlfriend to walk to the end and let me know it was clear. Hopefully an honest review.

Couples stay at Cheddar

Myself and my partner stayed here for one week from 23/7/17. The site itself is very clean and tidy and the wardens are friendly and helpful. It is a short walk into Cheddar village where there are cafes a few shops and a Tesco Express and a small Sainsbury's. a little further, but in walking distance are the Cheddar Gorge attractions and this area is a little like Blackpool. Having said that the Gorge Walk has spectacular views and is tranquil even in a busy day. Back to the site. We found it too busy and noisy and, although there was no children's facilities it was full of kids. The most annoying part was the kids 'grouping' round the toilet blocks on bikes and scooters and no one stopped them. The toilet block was spotless and showers hot but they are a little tired and need an upgrade. We enjoyed our week but don't think we'll make a return visit.

Avoid Pitch 44

We recently stayed at this site for 3 nights. The facilities were good, site wardens were helpful, and proximity to town and public transport is excellent. However for 2 of the three nights we were subjected to appalling behaviour coming from a park adjacent to the site boundary. On our last night we were kept awake from 11pm to 1.30am by drunken youths shouting obscenities and swearing at the top of their voices. If you are planning to stay here avoid this and the adjacent pitches so you are not subjected to this unacceptable behaviour.

100% from us Westie's

We love Cheddar Gorge, so to find a CC site so local we where over the moon, it a short walk into Cheddar Gorge. The site is very clean and Warden are very friendly. No sure if it was me but I could only see 4 showers in the ladies toilets. For such a busy site I think this might course a problem in high season. We will use this site when we visit Cheddar Gorge again.

Excellent stay

We stayed for 5 nights at the end June beginning of July & had a fabulous time. The site is very clean & pitches lovely & large so you don't feel as if others are looking into you. It took us less than 10 minutes to walk to both Tesco's & Sainsburys & around 15 minutes to the Shops & restaurants near the Gorge. Lunch at the Riverside inn was very nice & we also had a lovely meal at Shaznaz Indian. The 4 mile Gorge Walk is very steep in places & took us around 2& 1/2 hours but well worth it. The Strawberry Line cycle route is however a bit disappointing, there is currently a diversion in place which is not an easy cycle ride (on bark through a wooded area!) & this adds around 2 miles on to the route. Wells is really worth a visit, the Saturday market was great lots of fab food & for anyone wanting to shop, Clarks Village Outlet is a must!

A great location and lovely site

The last few hundred yards are a bit on the narrow side. At first, as you drive through Cheddar where the road narrows and over-hanging bushes along the roadside can easily catch your van. Then as you turn down the final approach road to the site, you really start to question whether you've taken a wrong turn. It has the look of a farmyard track and is again very narrow and overgrown. It would certainly help if the hedgerows were trimmed but they're not. But enough about getting there, once on site it's nice, with a mix of grass and hard standing pitches available. We were lucky, the sun was shining and it was pleasant 10 minute walk into the village. Here you will find a good pub, Sainsbury's and a nice church. Walking up to the gorge takes another 20 minutes or so but it's here that you get the proper tourist experience. It's much busier, there are more pubs, plenty of tea and souvenir shops plus the gorge itself. There are also caves you can pay to look round - we didn't bother. The River walk close to the site is also a nice stroll of an evening before returning to the van via a very attractive site entrance with beautiful flower displays for a glass of wine. As others have said, the site is a gem and we would definitely visit again.
