Just visited Cheddar site. Fabulous location with easy walk into Cheddar village and Cheddar Gorge where there are lovely shops pubs and restaurants. The site is well kept but the toilet and shower block is in desperate need of an update. Some noise from the football pitch at the back of the site but all quiet after 9pm. Warning: do not use the postcode in your Sat Nav! I (and according to the friendly neighbours others before me) ended up in a very tight cul-de-sac off Laburnum Way!! This should be in the site directory but isn't (although it is for the CL which is opposite the main site.
Another lovely stay at this site. Facilities are very clean and warm albeit the showers are on the small side! Whilst we stayed there the relief wardens Jean and Terry Johnson were on duty, fantastic couple!! My husband was unfortunate to injure his hand after 10 minutes of us arriving, Terry was over like a shot making sure my husband was ok letting us know where their medical centre was and hospitals. After visits to hospital and back to site Terry made sure to come and visit us asking if we needed anything. Every day whilst we were there Terry made sure he chatted with us making sure all was well. Thank you so much Terry. The site is easy walking to the shops in Cheddar and Cheddar Gorge. There is a good Sainsbury’s and a small Tesco in the town. Great cycling in the area especially if you use the Strawberry Line (Old railway) you can even cycle to Thatchers Cider shop! The Old Railway restaurant and bar is a must to visit too being just up the road from Thatchers. Can’t wait to return again in August and we promise no accidents!
This was our second visit to the site in Cheddar, the first was overnight on our way home from Devon, but after that we decided that we had to return. The site is nice and tidy, the staff are friendly and welcoming. We stayed for 4 nights with our 9 & 10 year old children. I was only slightly concerned that the children might get a bit bored with no play area, but I was very wrong, they quickly made friends and played together while on site.
The site is in a great location, we payed a visit to Wookey Hole, which was a really good day out. We also cycled the Strawberry line to Yatton and back (approx 23 mile round trip). On the Sunday we decided to take the National Trust walk up to the top of Cheddar Gorge, its was fairly hard going to get up, but worth the effort, absolutely stunning view.
We had a great trip and plan to return in the future.
Really nice site which is kept immaculate with wonderful display of pots and hanging baskets. The Wardens were extremely helpful and always very pleasant.Very handy for the Gorge, Bath Arms and a decent curry house.Excellent cycling on The Strawberry Line with a handy refreshment stop at The Lamb in lovely Axbridge. A wonderful start to our month away touring the West Country.
We loved both ours stays at Cheddar Caravan site, the team running the site are so welcoming. We are beginners to Caravanning the staff were so helpful which helped build our confidence. The site is so clean and well presented there is an easy walk into Cheddar Gorge and a couple of supermarkets and pubs also within easy walking distance. We loved the fact music is played in the toilets/shower area it was lovely to hear people sing along.
We will definitely stay there again.
People only ever read the bad reviews...... So lets start on the upside. Great Location, close to the town of Cheddar. Really lovely wardens, salt of the earth people. Quiet and well maintained. Nothing there for children.
Now the nitty gritty and the only and biggest complaint.. If your in a small unit then stop reading here and visit the site. IF your in a large twin axle unit of a fifth wheel then getting out can be a headache. There is a sweeping in entrance that on the way in is ok but on the way out is tight. WHY OH WHY do so many caravan and motorhome club sites have ridiculous entrances??? Mines an American Caravan and I take it on the chin that itS long, but this site at the entrance/exit has a brick pillar that only has disaster written all over it. Whats worse is it serves no purpose other than to inflict damage.
We found this a pleasant site, within easy walking distance of shops and Cheddar Gorge, and with views of the pretty Mendip Hills, if you choose a pitch along the back hedge. The wardens are helpful and hard-working, and our stay was peaceful and sunny.
It is not very safe to walk into Cheddar along the main road, which is without a footpath at blind spots, and it would be helpful if it was specifically pointed out on arrival that there is walking route in the opposite direction as you turn out of the site gate.
The only thing that spoiled the site for us was the loud radio in the washrooms. It is ironic that on a site where all the other users were considerate, and we were never disturbed by amplified sound around the site, the management ensured that we could not escape it in the washroom. Please switch it off.
It is a good site except for noise. The main road is busy from about 5.00 in the morning until 1100 at night. While we were there, the adjacent rugby club groundsman mowed the pitch every day from about 4.30p.m. until 7.00, just when we wanted peace and quiet to eat our evening meal. Try
to avid the pitches next to the rugby field.
This is such a lovely site, always happy to be here, great supermarkets nearby and as a motorhome owner that’s important. The wardens are lovely, very helpful and friendly. The site is beautifully kept tidy..... But, come on Caravan & MH club get the shower blocks sorted out! Showers are far too small, outdated, no proper shelf for clothing. And only 4!
We stayed 3 nights in May. Chose it because of the Strawberry Cycle line. Downloaded a good map from the Club website. The cycle line was easy to find with the map. Be aware that some of the route is on roads - although Axbridge was beautiful. Had a great cycle around the reservoir. Tesco & Sainsburys close to walk to for a newspaper. Sainsburys had a good selection of dry Gluten Free food. Made the mistake of not noting the directions to walk into the main part of Cheddar so missed out on several shops & small pubs. We thought the road with Tescos was the main part. Cheddar is mad at the weekend with tourists so this is a great site because you can leave the car behind.
