Excellent Site

Stayed for six nights early June - could only originally at time of booking get five nights but managed to squeeze another night once we were there due to a cancellation. Had a good pitch away from trees etc and loved the facilities and convenient location. Plenty to do in the area and the Peaks were just stunning. Yes we had to queue on arrival on the Sunday, but we were aware that this would happen and the wardens were working hard and with good humour to get everyone through. Lovely place.

Not so Secret Garden

Fourth time visited and still just as fabulous. A magical location with a hint of Francis Hodgson Burnett, the wardens friendly and supportive, the site itself immaculate - it really doesn't need any more recommendations as the difficulty in booking a stay suggests. However some suggestions be as lucky as we were in staying for a while, particular if you enjoy a walk. The Edges are stunning, the Monsal Trail to Monsal Head also to be recommended and did you know you can walk to 3 Devonshire Arms from the site to enjoy a pint of the local brew? The first in Baslow is the nearest, the second in Beeley at the end of a stroll across the length of the park and the third, our principal discovery of this trip, in Pilsley. We set ourselves the task to walk to all 3 and it was wet the day we were due to go to Pilsley. No matter, we were warmly welcomed in, even with a wet springer, so we all sat gently steaming, enjoying the atmosphere. Didn't eat as that would push the spaniels patience a little too far, but it looked good! One for our next visit to one of our favourite sites on the network.

Long Weekend Break

Arrived at 1 to find a que of about 9 vans on the road before us. Making an already late arrived of 1 o clock, it was half past one before we could book in. By the time we got set up lunch time became 2 o clock. All was well Thursday night then on Friday we became the victum of inconsiderate members who apparantly do not know the rules. The first thing that happened was a visitor who was staying with the next door caravan parked their car partly on our awning spot then proceeded to put a tent up on the grass divide between the caravans. The next problem arose when three caravans arrived and pitched within a near vicinty of each other. These three caravans then proceeded to take over the whole corner of the site with no consideration for anyone else. Their children played Ruby, Cricket and Tennis all in front of their own and other members caravans and on the access road. The warden stopped and told them to stop which they did until he moved and them promptly carried on This went on all weekend in various forms In fairness to the wardens they tried to sort the problems out but it spoiled what should have been a peaceful weekend. We have been members for over 35 years and do feel that standards are slipping alarmingly. Having said that the site is in a lovely place with lots to see and do in the area. The wardens keep the site beautiful and they do their best to keep control under apparant difficult circumstances. We will return to the site but not on a weekend.

Noisy but nice

Stayed for three nights at the end of May'15. Access was manageable in 8.5m motorhome, however take extra care going over the little bridge near the reception, otherwise you will bottom out! We stayed on a super pitch without awning and was given a choice of three available, all next to one another. Pitch was hard standing with own water, waste, chemical waste and electric. Unfortunately, due to the trees, our satellite dish would not get a reception, so £15 lighter got me a length of coax aerial cable to plug into the bollard. The site was very busy. Lots of kids racing about the site on bikes whilst mum & dad relaxed with their wine, although the little darlings did go to bed after 1030pm. Only other noise we had was next door but one testing their new motorhome stereo until 1130pm - so loud, we gave up on our TV as we couldn't hear it. Shame the Burstner owners didn't refund me my fifteen quid! Other than this, the site is in a lovely setting. Facilities are good, although on more than one occasion, each toilet cubicle pan was left in a mess. - no fault of the wardens who were hard working and friendly. (They can't  be blamed for the mindless souls). Site is a short stroll to Chatsworth House across the beautiful grounds. Entry is £22 pp but with a small discount for staying on this site. In addition, £14 pp entry to the gardens and £7 pp entry to the farm and kids playground - so take your purse. It's not cheap. The village of Baslow is lovely and has a few boutique style shops and pubs. There's a bus service into Bakewell, but make sure you get the timetable and time your walk to the bus stop accordingly. Would I return? Probably, but not in school holidays!

Another enjoyable visit

We have recently returned from another enjoyable visit to Chatsworth. The grounds were very busy as they were preparing for the horse trials later in the week so walking quietly around the grounds was a little more difficult than when we visited previously. The hard standings on some pitches are quite a long way from the EHU points so make sure you have a long length of electric cable. We found that this obsession the CC has with parking by the side of the pitch marker means that the motorhome door is close to the end of the pitch making it difficult to sit out comfortably in the remaining space while the other side of the motorhome has feet of spare space doing nothing, if like at Chatsworth some of the pitches are a bit tight for space there is so much wasted. That been said, another good visit & we have already re booked for September.

Lovely Chatsworth

First visit to this site. If you have a long outfit take care on the drive the last part on entering the camp is very tight and you need to have all you wits about you. I have an 8m van and it was certainly a test. The Wardens are extremely helpful and lovely to talk to. The site itself is well maintained and can be a little noisy but the grass needs cutting and bushes trimming on a regular basis so that's just the way it is. The toilets are immaculate and the dog walk big enough to suffice. You have access to the estate close by and the large park land is a joy to explore. The house and gardens are well worth a visit but take a picnic with you. Baslow has a nice assortment of pubs and cafes and is within waling distance of the site. The Wheat sheaf does some good pub grub mains at £6 a head plus you get a discount on showing your caravan club card. Beeley is well worth a visit and the Devonshire Arms does the best fish and chips I have ever tasted. All in all and really nice site.

Another enjoyable stay

We`ve just returned from another excellent weekend at this site. Wardens have changed since our last visit but as usual the site staff are extremely helpful and friendly. We had our two grandchildren with us on this occasion ( 5 and 4 respectively ) and on their behalf I would like to say thanks to the wardens for the way they dealt with the two of them each time they popped into the office. The kids thought it was great !. Found a really nice place to eat in Baslow too ", Charlies café and Bistro ". Seats 36. Excellent food and knowledgeable staff. It`s located on Church street directly opposite the church. Well worth a visit, we`ll certainly eat their again on our next visit to Chatsworth.
