first outing

had one night stay on 22/7/2015 in our new motorhome as a test run.Beautiful site with impeccably clean facilities and lovely grounds etc. About 15 minute walk to Baslow village with a good pub offering reasonably priced pub meals and good choice of beers etc..Walk the other direction and it takes about 20 mins to Chatsworth house and the farm shop is about 5 mins drive. This is a lovely place to stay if you want peace and quiet with good walking in beautiful countryside, will definitely visit again soon..

Gorgeous

Another lovely weekend, walked through the grounds to the Devonshire Arms with the dog, and had food and drink . Also bought a Delish chocolate cake and lemon curd from Chatsworth shop at the house . What a spectacle to see the crows circling at 9.15 ready to roost in the tree on the site.

Friendly and high quality

Just stayed for two nights. Superbly sited next to Chatsworth House and gorgeous countryside. We found the site very clean and tidy with friendly humorous and efficient staff. All the usual facilities were easy to find and well laid out. We thoroughly recommend this site and look forward to returning.

Nice enough site.

This is a pleasant site in a lovely part of the Country and the staff are nice, facilities clean etc. It is very pretty and the door into the park a lovely touch BUT the roads on site are very narrow and the pitches feel quite crammed on. Not quite the "Super Pitch" we had expected and unfortunately someone thought it appropriate to play very loud music until late which, whilst fun and friendly for some was not what we really wanted. Great for fun filled, family party type weekends but not for peace and relaxation during our visit!

A Nice Site BUT

We visited this site at the beginning of July and got a weekend along with the rest of our week. I thought this a minor miracle as this is as rare as hens teeth as I had only booked 6 weeks before and not at Christmas as I had to do previously to get 2 weekends in our holiday. It is a well placed site BUT it requires quite a lot of work done on it as it is a premium site in the network. The hedges between pitches were full of weeds, they also had small sycamore trees growing through the planting which need removed or could end up with 40-50 foot trees in stead of shrubs. Quite a lot of weeds were growing on the hard standings which made them look untidy. The toilets were kept very clean and the staff were very helpful and friendly. This is a large site which could do with a little help to get it back to the excellent condition I remember a few Years ago.

Thank you wardens

We would like to thank the wardens for their help when our battery charger failed on one of the hottest Fridays this year. They looked after our frozen food for 4 days until Peak Leisure could obtain the part (weekend). Ordered Friday-fitted Monday. Job done with no fuss and we had power back in our campervan-just in time for 2 wet days! Thoroughly rec: this company who will come to site if needed. Had lovely visit to the house and several visits to the park. Also had great day out at Carsington water. Only complaint is that whoever designed the 2 hairdryers/sinks/hand dryers in such a small space wants to try using them! At least one hairdryer needs to be moved.

Magical chatsworth

Just spent 5 days at chatsworth, having never been up to this area before. The wardens manage the 1pm arrival well as the road is so narrow.   The site was lovely, clean and tidy shower block and never a queue. We were given a magic key to unlock the door in the wall to chatsworth estate.  I felt like a little girl again and it was lovely.  The wardens were lovely and especially the lady warden who told me about the walk upto the tower and woods. I went in search of it and saw magical old trees, the tower and the aqueduct It was all so beautiful but a lot of walking to the top, Ted my dog and I were exhausted.   We went to Bakewell which wasn't up to much but Buxton was lovely. We also went to Chesterfield shopping which was nice and had a maket on.   Sadly, the night before we were due to leave, we were busy packing up, and one male warden stopped his tractor and told us our dog should be tied up on the pitch all the time.  He didn't say please and we were bit suprised as we have been to many sites and not one has ever asked for our dog to be tied up.  Our dog doesn't wander and was on his pitch.  It's not really a holiday if you have to tie your pet up is it.  We never complained about all the pooh on our pitch when we arrived, or the weeds, or the dog that constantly barked in the next block.  Perhaps we should have done.  Yes chatsworth house is a beautiful place, but expensive for familes for a day out.  We won't visit again, we will continue going to cirencester burford, and malvern, where dogs are welcome

Disappointed

Just stayed for four days, with friends with their caravan. Several points need to be made. Firstly if the site is full, put a notice up at entrance.  Lady queued up with us for over 20 minutes, only to be informed no room. We had booked two super pitches together, and when we arrived, given a site pitch leaflet and told to drive round and see whether any pitches left with two side by side. Why cannot the office allocate pitches before arrival? Super pitches are far too small and covered in weeds. Staff have an hour between departures and arrivals to spray pitches. Trees need lopping,  motorhome covered in dew. All customers should be given, on arrival emergency details, nearest hospital, doctor, dentist etc.  Showers etc, excellent. All in all, feel this site is more interested in jamming in vechiles, than taking care of customers.

Comment from The Caravan Club:

Many thanks for leaving a review. The Wardens have been in touch as they wanted to address your concerns. We are sorry that the lady you mention was disappointed. People can call the site in advance or view the website to check availability. Chatsworth Park is a very popular site, particularly in the summer season, so we advise that people always check availability before arrival. The Site Staff work hard to maintain the site, including controlling weeds, however, at this time of year with various weather conditions, it’s impossible to kill all weeds, regardless of how regularly the site staff attend to this. For future reference, during the winter months major work is being planned with some of the super pitches being redeveloped. As per all Club Sites, and as stated on the Club website and Sites Directory & Handbook, we do not allocate pitches in order to allow people to be able to select the pitch of their choice.  The wardens do however try to help members by marking up the available pitches on the site plan so that members can find the most suitable pitches that are available together when staying with friends or family. As you can see from previous reviews the wardens always work really hard and, although the site may be busy, they go out of their way to be polite, friendly and as helpful as possible, so they are sorry to read that you did not feel this was the case. I hope this helps address your concerns and we hope to welcome you on site again soon.

It's all about the location

Been here many times over the years. Friendly welcome from the site staff. This site is in such a great location, it is a privilege to stay on the Chatsworth estate and enjoy all the parkland long after the 'day trippers ' have gone home, but......for a site charging top end fees, it is lacking a bit of tlc. Some pitches have been re gravelled but we were only able to  book a super pitch and it was tired, the gravel and surrounding area having weeds and grass growing not helped by a previous occupants cigarette stubs!  It's definitely  time to give this flag ship site a makeover.

Very helpful

We returned to this site absolutely beautiful as always with the farm shop just down the road. We wanted to thank the wardens who were extremely helpful in letting us stay on a couple of extra nights I was poorly with bronchitis and my husband developed a chest infection. The medical practice in Bakewell were really great with both of us too. Hope to return to site next year in better health.
