A premium site

This is a beautiful site. The wardens are very friendly and helpful. It is well kept, very tidy and clean. It is no wonder that it is constantly fully booked at weekends and peak periods. I particularly liked having our own key to the 'secret' door into the Chatsworth parkland. The Rooks are a little noisy but small price to pay for so much bird life - take ear plugs if you dont want to hear them!  My only gripe would be that some of the plots are really overshadowed by the very mature trees around the edges and dont see much sun - I wonder if some cutting back could be done - or maybe the trees are protected?

Half Term Break

Great site in a fantastic location, ideal for exploring the surrounding area.  Facilities on site are of good quality and exceptionally clean. For families the Chatsworth Estate has a great adventure playground with petting area, a little pricey but well worth a visit.  We had a serviced pitch which was great with plenty of space. Would certainly recommend lunch or dinner at the Devonshire Arms in Baslow, great food and service.  The only negative is the amount of sap the trees drop, car and van were a total mess.... make sure you pack a long brush to help clean your van and awning.

Not so sure

Visited the site during half term. Big mistake. Arrived at 12:45 a little early than planned and the 1300 start time. Chose a pitch away from the trees. Usual high standard for a CC site but has room for improvement. Pitches tight but clearly marked Red white and blue. Awning no awning etc. Small compact site busy with children cycling around during all hours trying to play badminton when theres a huge park next door. No doubt the parents told them to play somewhere else other than around their van. Will not choose this period again. Many campers move pitches when they found they were either always in the shade and or had their cars/vans covered with tree sap. As we departed the next van deposited their accessories on our pitch. Shop stocked with usual distress items. Papers charged at 10p extra delivery charge. Chatsworth a dream and walk to Bakewell fab. Good walks from the site. Better sites that meets our needs around. Not one I would clamber to return to.

A Little Slice of Heaven.

This has to be one of our favourite sites. The pretty walled garden setting gave us a flowering cherry tree to either side of our serviced pitch and felt restful and relaxing. The immediate access into the grounds of Chatsworth House is a huge plus point whether there is an event on there or not. There is an abundance of things to see and do in the area and the site itself always maintains an impressive standard. The only negative is the queue of caravans trying to get in at 1pm each day and the inevitable few who think rules shouldn't apply to them.

Fabulous Site

We booked here again at short notice and to our surprise managed to get a super pitch. Everything you need on your own pitch which was a luxury. The facilities are excellent, plenty of toilets, showers and privacy cubicles with a couple of toilets for use when the others were being cleaned. It is a very popular site and it was virtually full, but apart from the noise of music from the Estate itself, it was fairly quiet in the evenings. All the wardens were so helpful and friendly and we would recommend this site to anyone visiting the Peak District. Walks straight from the campsite, pubs, restaurants and tea rooms within walking distance too. We live close anyway, but it'a always a treat to go there, we will be back of course!

Beautiful Chatsworth

Went to Chatsworth CC site for the International Horse Trials.  Arrived on the Thursday before. Turned off the road at exactly 1pm and must have had at least a dozen caravans in front of us! It quite clearly states in the book and online not to turn up until 1pm, but this does not stop some people trying to get there early to bag the best spots.  One day when we were there a motor home pulled right up to the line at reception at 12.20 and, after obviously being told they could not go on site until 1pm, the couple sat having their lunch in the motor home first in the queue!!  Now you could say it is anal to complain about this, and you could say that persistent offenders that regularly turn up early are having a laugh at the rest of us that abide by the site rules!!! Some sites (York being one) turn early arrivers around and make them come back at the correct time, but this is not possible at Chatsworth due to the narrow access road.   However we found the wardens extremely friendly and helpful.  The site was clean and tidy and the showers lovely and clean with plenty of hot water.  Full marks for the site - we will be back - even with the noisy black birds - you can't stop nature!  Thank you caravan club for such a beautiful site - pity about the early arrivers!

Never again!

I don't know where to start as there were so many things wrong with this site. Firstly, the postcode that came on my email with the booking confirmation was completely wrong! It took us to Chatsworth House! Then, we were told when we got there at 12.30 that we would have to park at the line and wait for someone to come and get us as they do not allow anyone in until 1pm. How anal can you get? We found the pitches rather close to each other in comparison to other CC sites. It was the noisiest site we have EVER stayed on. The wardens seem to have lost the use in their legs and so ride around on a diesel engine tractor at all hours of the day. What with that and the rooks in the trees! Then to top it all off, on the Friday morning at 7am, a refuse lorry turns up and starts emptying all the recycled glass bottles. I thought my husband was going to blow a fuse at this point! Chatsworth house was two thirds covered in tarpaulin and scaffolding whilst we were there and so made the inside of the house very dark and dingey. We weren't impressed as the cost to get in was almost £40 with £3 for audio guide and £6 for guide book! The gardens were lovely and so we spent about 5 hours going around them. The farm shop, although very expensive, sold some delicious meats and produce. Hubby tried the Peak Ales Chatsworth Ale and said it was really nice. We didn't find the staff at all helpful or friendly on the campsite. When we handed in our key at the end of our stay, we weren't asked if we'd had a nice time or wished a safe journey or anything.  We will definitely NOT be returning to Chatsworth Caravan site - EVER! By the way, for those of you who are unfortunate to be staying there in the future, the postcode to follow is DE45 1SP, but don't get there before 1pm!

Maybe too popular!

Chatsworth is certainly the true Mc Coy when it comes to the ideal site. However, recently I have noticed that it has become rather an expensive site compared to say Castleton. It's probably down to supply and demand so it's probably all relative. Great site but avoid pitches 27 - 32 they are desperate for more gravel and when it's wet can be muddy. Oh and don't forget your ear plugs, the crows in the trees drive you nuts in the mornings!
