Chatsworth Gem
We have just spent a lovely week on a service pitch. These are now much more user friendly, with the replacement of the meshed grass strips along the front, by gravel. These always got so muddy at this time of the year. The facilities were of the usual high standard / cleanliness and wardens very friendly. We did do one excursion to Quarry Bank Mill ( National Trust) about 35 miles away, close to Manchester Airport, because we wanted to visit and it was half the distance it is from home. Most of our time was spent walking locally and from the site. A particular favourite is out past the House into the woods and onto the Rabbit Warren. Then track down to Beely Lodge and Calton Lees Garden Centre for lunch, before returning to the site. About a 6 mile circuit with 180 metres of assent / descent. For food there is the Coop at Bakewell, Spar at Calver or the Chatsworth Farm Shop, which stocks some lovely if rather expensive produce. However, 10% discount is available on production of your campsite receipt, between 09:00 -11:00 and 16:00 - 18:00. The site Wifi worked well during our stay and 4G is also available on EE and O2. Although better on O2. If you can't get satellite, because a tree is in the way, there is a connection on the site post which provides the main channels. The site road near the entrance has a huge pothole. Apparently the responsibility of the estate to fix, in the meantime exercise caution, it can be avoided but may be covered by water.
