Splendid weekend at Chatsworth, the site enjoys access directly into the Park through the back gate in the site perimeter wall which makes this site quite special. The ducks and pheasants on site are entertaining and whilst in the dog walk area there were nuthatch, lots of finches and tits. The long drive down to the site was an issue for us, we arrived at the turning off the main road at 12:58, perfect I thought, however the queue of vans who’d arrived before us prevented us being able to get the back of the van fully into the access road! I can only imagine the comments of the drivers on the main road behind me. A splendid weekend...
Snowed in but happy
My wife and I stayed here during the recent snowy, cold snap and it was stunning. Snow everywhere but the wardens worked tirelessly to keep the paths clear. Just step through the door in the site wall and you are in the grounds of Chatsworth House. Great for walking and cycling. Take a hearty stroll up to the hunting tower and the top of the hill and despite being positioned (as it's name implies) for panoramic views you can't see the discreetly hidden caravan site. Alternatively turn the heating up in your caravan/motorhome and watch all the ducks and pheasants meandering about the site as though they own the pace. Heaven.
Excellent site in Derbyshire
Stayed for a couple of nights at Chatsworth in Feb 18. Despite freezing cold weather we had a great time. Short walk to the house and good bus service into Bakewell. Staff were friendly and toilet/shower block spotless.
Excellent Site
Have been to Chatsworth site twice each year for many years which must say it all. We always book a super pitch which makes sense to me. The location is excellent for walking through the park to the house, for visiting the farm shop and garden centre and generally for touring Derbyshire. It is a very popular site so is necessary to book early especially for weekends. If you arrive close to 1.0 clock there will be a massive queue which I don't understand as almost all of the pitches are excellent. I aim to arrive a bit later to avoid these queues and am always happy with the pitch I get. I haven't noticed facilities being left in a poor state but agree that the wardens are excellent. However I have seen dog owners allowing their animals to foul the ground in public areas.
Community Responsibility ...
This was our 3rd visit to Chatsworth and the site is all that we need in terms of location etc. We love the relaxed atmosphere and all the wildlife in close vicinity. You can park up and just spend your time exploring the Chatsworth estate with some wonderful walks.
The wardens are a great team who work hard in ensuring that the site is well run etc and the welcome is always friendly. Like bene (previous reviewer) we feel so sorry for the wardens and what they have to deal with in cleaning the facilities (both male and female) - on our 2 visits to the site this year we have been appalled at the way in which the loos are at times left for them to deal with - it is really selfish and unfair. We actually mentioned to the wardens on our departure as they must get so fed up with it and as I say feel nothing but sympathy for them. We can't understand why this happens ?
As bene says the wardens deserve all praise coming to them.
Perfect location for visiting chatsworth
We visited 21 to 24 Feb. We loved the location and the walks around the grounds of Chatworth. Baslow was a little disappointing, not as much there as I had hoped but three pubs I think and an Italian restaurant. We had our dog with us so visited Rowley and the Devonshire Arms for drinks. Both had welcoming fires on such cold days! We went to the blue John mine at Castleton and would have liked to walk mam tor but too cold. We vowed to return to Castleton as the area looked like it was more of a hill walking area. We visited Bakewell and I’m sure pretty in warmer weather but surprised at how little was in the town. We will definitely return to the area in warmer weather. I think for anyone wanting more going on in a town Buxton would be a good base, serious walkers may prefer Castleton. Chatsworth House and gardens weren’t open when we visited, they re-open at the end of March but you can explore the grounds. There are many comments about the drive but we didn’t experience any problems, in fact there are about five passing points so if you arrive and depart when you are meant to there shouldn’t be a problem. Spacious pitches we thought, the birds were noisy in the morning but at least no traffic noise! All in all an enjoyable stay.

Community Responsibility.
Lovely, helpful wardens. Great location and brilliant pitch. BUT why oh why can't we respect the fact that our treatment of the facilities is the best way to maintain them from one clean to the next? I really feel sorry for the wardens in having to deal with the appalling state of the loos that we have left for them. Presumably we would not do this at home so why inflict it on others? Disappointing that people can behave so selfishly. The wardens deserve all the praise coming to them.

Great Location
Although it is a large site (capacity wise) and a lot of pitches were very close, we managed to get a lovely quiet site. Not too far from the impeccably clean facilities.
The staff were very friendly. The close proximity to the Chatsworth Estate was great, and access via your own key - great!
Chatsworth Park drive
First time staying at Chatsworth Park and really enjoyed it, although early February is probably not the best time to see the park and house in all its glory, there was plenty to see and do in the immediate vicinity to keep us entertained for 4 days. Recommended is the Chatsworth Park Farm shop and café, but be early for lunch! Explore Eyam the Plague village, fascinating and Matlock Aquarium and Halogen museum. Facilities on site are top class and the site managers are friendly and helpful. Only down side is the drive up to the site, it is severely pot holed and in parts not metaled so beware you may be up to your axles in muddy water. All in all a brilliant 4 days.
Many will enjoy their stay at this site.
Spent a very pleasant day at this site. As already described it is clean and tidy and was made welcome by the lady warden. I think the male warden was having a bad day because he constantly looked angry! The site is well located and is great for Chatsworth House and some lovely walking. Remember though, it is a nice site but no better or worse than many other club sites. Its location is an excuse for hiking prices (no arrivals before 1.00!!). There are many commercial sites that are cheaper and offer similar facilities. Motorhomes are ideal for touring rather than setting up for long stays on one site. Too often sites such as Chatsworth are not available for short stays but incongruously are also overpriced! I would like to see less Flagship sites and more non shower block sites at sensible prices. I am sure many will enjoy their stay at this site bit it certainly is not a panacea for the club.
