Glad to be back

It was great to be back at Chatsworth site. We chose this site because we knew that there would be plenty of space to allow us to social distance. The measures taken by the site staff and the club in general seem to be working and definitely with just 3 allowed in the toilet block at one time I always felt ok going into the facilities. I did notice that some folk using the service toilets hung their wrist band on a hook for the ladies toilet block therefore it seemed like the ladies block was full but it wasn’t! The Chatsworth parkland is so good for walking...I had no problem getting my steps up each day and discovered different walks from Baslow too. We ate in the Devonshire Arms for Sunday lunch - it was lovely and they were very well set up for social distancing. The wardens were friendly and helpful. When our dog got ill and we had to take him to the vets the wardens helped us get our motorhome out the lane at a busy time in the early afternoon without complaint. Keith in particular always asked how our dog was for the rest of our stay.

Wonderful Wardens

Yes we had a little queue to get in, yes it was strange talking to wardens through glass shields with them all masked up, but, the Club have got it right. The control of the facilities using the rubber bands works, the punters generally keep to the safe distance, and everyone can enjoy holidays or short breaks again, fantastic! Now this was our third trip out since lockdown was lifted and we have been impressed by all three sets of Wardens (the Club seems to have cornered the market in cheerful hardworking characters) but here at Chatsworth they really went above and beyond, clearly explaining how the site worked, guiding us to the correct pitch, and then when we asked if we could stay another day they went out of the way, even though they were very busy, to ensure that we didn't even have to move from our Serviced pitch. We came home feeling like we had been on a longer holiday. Oh by the way, Chatsworth Park and Gardens are superb, and the Cafe in Edensor is a gem. Thanks to all at the Site.

First outing of the year....

Just returned from my first visit to Chatsworth, and my first outing since lockdown. I decided to go a bit later as I’d heard that there are sometimes queues to book in. I arrived at 4pm and didn’t have any queue. However, there were not many pitches left to choose from but this didn’t worry me. All credit to the wardens as the site was spotless and very well organised. The system for restricting access to the washrooms seemed to be working well. The shop was open and the wardens were helpful and welcoming. It was lovely to have socially distanced chats to fellow campers. I followed the instructions for two walks listed in the information hut. One walk took me up to the hunting tower and on another day I walked to Bakewell, catching the bus back to Baslow and walked from there back to the site. The walk was mainly on tracks and country roads. In some places the track was quite rough and uneven. I would like to return to the site and explore the grounds of Chatsworth more. The back gate takes you in to the grounds of Chatsworth and there are many walks. If you are lucky, you will see some deer on your walks too.

Glad to be back!

Our first long-awaited post lockdown trip, and like many people (we expect), we were a little nervous about being “out there” again. We needn’t have worried. We arrived two days after re-opening to find this site spotless, despite being almost full, with all six wardens pleasant and completely “on it”, working hard to ensure all was as it should be, and helping the unusual number of first-timers. We found the arrival and departure arrangements just as quick and efficient as usual, and used some of the CAMC vouchers. We are fortunate to have our own on-board facilities, but we could see the wardens carrying out frequent extra cleaning and checking of all shared facilities, although there was inevitably sometimes a short wait for the shower/toilet block due to the restrictions required by social distancing. The site looks beautiful and is well-looked after; we liked being able to pick our own fresh herbs for cooking. The shop carries lots of local and useful items including bakery bread and cream teas, with a Co-Op and the Village shop 20 minutes’ walk away. You can also catch a bus to Bakewell and beyond. Chatsworth isn’t fully open yet but you can walk (through the “secret door”!) in the grounds and gardens. We also enjoyed our first meals out at the Devonshire and the Prince of Wales (walking distance) which were both excellent, and socially distanced. We are so glad we ventured out again!

Great place for Chatsworth House

This was our first visit to Chatsworth and we will be back again soon. On arrival we received a friendly welcome from the wardens especially Keith and Tracey. There were plenty of available pitches to choose from and the site and toilet block were spotless and tidy. Very relaxing site with lots of walks especially around the grounds of Chatsworth Estate. Baslow is a short walk away with a few shops and eating establishments.

Ideal spot to visit Chatsworth Estste

The wardens were nice and welcoming, doing a good job directing people into a site that has a single track entrance. We visited in February so nothing looks it’s best but I felt the site looked a little tired and full use of the land has been made to squeeze in as many pitches as possible so there’s not much open space on the site itself. You are however surrounded by wonderful parkland and the fabulous Chatsworth House. You can walk to a dog friendly pub in the village and there’s plenty of walking in the surrounding area. There was a leaking radiator in the dishwashing area that looks to have been there a while and needs fixing as water was all over the floor one morning . Lots of ducks to feed and the rooks /black birds are a bit noisy nesting in the trees 😂

First visit to the Chatsworth site

Well organised arrivals plan. The entrance is chained off to prevent visitors arriving before 1.00pm. It is a single track road with passing places to the site, so this removes the danger of two caravans meeting one another. We panicked a little as there is a fast flowing river adjacent to the site which had broken its banks following the recent storms, but fortunately for us the river receded. Chatsworth grounds were very wet. These are accessible from the site and you are given a key to access the grounds via a doorway in the stone wall. We only had five nights there but would have liked longer, however, weekends seem to get booked up very soon. The site is flat with protected pitches as a wall runs round the site. Toilets were nice and warm although are a bit tired compared to other sites which have been upgraded. Ideal spot for us as we wanted to visit Bakewell which is a 3 mile walk over the hills and to do more walking in the area. Staff were pleasant and worked hard clearing drains to reduce the amount of surface water on the ground.

Difficult to get a booking!

Difficult to think of anything original to add to all the existing reviews. We have previously tried to book the site without success owing to it's popularity so went for an off season few days. It's such a good location. Whatever you do, ensure you don't arrive earlier than 13:00. You won't get past the gate. There is still likely to be a queue but they have a good system in place to get you through to your pitch. Would recommend but please leave space for when we want to go!

Chatsworth break

A good sized site enclosed within Chatsworth Estate. Very clean, tidy and well organised. Helpful and friendly staff. Plenty to do in the local area. Short easy walk to a few pubs that do good food and dog friendly. Will definitely return
