Top Wood fired pizza

We had a great stay at Chatworth over the Easter period. The camp was spot on and the locration is superb. Pubs and restaraunts within walking distance and we used the local bus to get into Backewell. Wardens were very friendly, always on hand and worked hard to maintain the facilities. If you are dog lovers its a must. You have direct access into chatsworth park. I have to mention the wood fired pizzas that we had on the Sunday night. The pizza oven is on site 3 nights a week and they are made fresh to order. The quality of the food is second to none. They were the best pizzas I have ever had. Don't miss out if you visit. Remember to place an order early as they sell out quickly.

Outstanding Site and Staff

We stayed here at the beginning of April. As always the site was excellent with work to keep it looking like that discretely ongoing all the time. The staff were outstanding with nothing too much trouble and always with a smile on their face. It is always a delight to stay here. It was fantastic to see such a well stocked shop on site with fresh produce daily. The only disappointment was the fish and chip van which arrived on the Thursday, though there is very little that the wardens can do once a contract has been issued. The fish was predominantly batter, the chips were slightly warm, when you have a good imagination and the mushy peas were tepid at best. We will certainly give them a miss on future visits. However our stay at the site was as excellent as always.

Our Favourite Site

Chatsworth was the very first CAMC site we stayed at and it remains top of our list. We have just stayed again for two nights just after Easter. It is always a credit to the team that run it for us all. We were disappointed to read a recent review about some people leaving the site. The signs saying "No Ball Games" on the grass areas behind the pitches, the reminders to parents to keep their children in sight, to people to keep their dogs on a lead and to observe the quiet hours are very welcome. Many CAMC members, ourselves included, come to Chatsworth for some "peace and quiet" and sincerely hope that we will continue to be able to do so.

Another excellent stay

A favourite site just 20 miles from home but it’s like another world. So very relaxing. I had the fish and chips last night and must disagree with an earlier review. I’ve had them before and they were very good and they’re still very good. Friendly wardens and clean facilities although I’m sure some members wouldn’t leave their own toilet at home in the state some of them are left in! The good weather was a bonus and the current display of statues in the park is interesting. Great for dog walkers and the cocktail bar in the stables was open. Made it even better.

Fish and Chips

I feel I have to add a further review regarding the fish and chip van that pitches up in the car park on Thursdays, having just attempting to eat fish and chips we are in total agreement they are the worst ever tasted at a site, the chips were cold as were the mushy peas and the fish was dry and there was more batter than fish which had obviously been re-fried, at £10 a portion we did expect something more edible....oh I forgot you do get a lemon slice....!!!

Excellent relaxing

This was our first time at Chatsworth we found the site extremely clean and well kept the wardens were al very helpful. Although there is only one toilet block there are more then enough facilities for everyone even early in a morning there were always showers free to use. The secret gate is a great idea and gives access to the Chatsworth Estate with the house only 10 minutes walkway. We were told the Chatsworth Farm Shop was about a 2 mile walk, this should be undertaken by the fit and healthy as it is a very undulating walk that takes a good hour, upon arriving at the Farm Shop we were informed NO DOGS allowed in an abrupt fashion, perhaps this should be made clear in literature for this visit, we only had a small dog but this made no difference, so please be aware if you take your pooch on this yomp NO DOGS allowed. We ventured down to Baslow and must recommended the excellent Devonshire Arms excellent food and not the usual frozen / boil in the bag food, this is all freshly made, some might think a little expensive but the taste was divine and remember you get 20% discount on production of your CAMC receipt for your stay. Also the excellent Coffee Shop on the Green deserves a mention. There is a CO-OP in the village, go down the lane you drive up to the site and turn left in the village or you can go through the secret gate turn left and when you come to the house on the right the path goes to the right or through a metal gate, go through the gate over the small bridge which leads to the main entrance and then turn left down to the round about and then right, the CO-OP is about 100yds on the right, also the Prince of Wales is a nice pub.

Lovely site.

Lovely site and helpful staff, unfortunately we left the site early because of children racing about the site on cycles at high speed, and playing football very near our motorhome, it's about time the Club stopped cycling and ball games on the sites.

Best site I have stayed in.

Its right up there as one of the best hence its usually booked up. Only lost one star for peace and quiet due to incessant squawking from the crows at dusk and dawn. Well done to all involved managing this site everything was very good. Pizza Wednesday and fish and chips Thursday were both great quality for a mobile van take out from the site. You will be aware that you access Chatsworth estate which is fantastic for half day walks ( get a copy of local walks from the site shop for 50p) well worth it. One that is not listed and perhaps the best is a 8 miler from the site go up to the hunting tower then nelsons and wellingtons monuments via birches edge a great circular walk coming back along a track to Baslow. Its always nice to be able to leave the car behind for a day trip. Top notch farm shop at Pilsey with associated prices, lots of good cafes and eateries nearby. If you have dogs also look out for the crazy ducks they are brazen and will steal food from your dog bowls if left unattended for more than a few seconds.

Site team

I don’t normally write a review however I felt that I need to as the site staff at Chatsworth are amazing. Nothing you ask of them is a problem and they are all very welcoming and very helpful.

Valentine’s weekend break

Lovely site in a great location. Shame about the weather, but we made the best of it with a couple of pub visits and meals out. The Devonshire Arms and The Wheatsheaf are fab, and dog friendly too. Lots of other pubs too in Baslow, a real thriving village in a stunning area. Visited Bakewell and Wirksworth, which is a real gem. Can recommend the Sunday roast at The Hope and Anchor, Wirksworth. Sounds like we did little else but eat and drink, but when the weathers bad, retreat to the caravan…..or pub. The only downside was the behaviour of a few members on site. Site speed limits being ignored, and not just by a few MPH, and Mr Impatient, who chose a shortcut across the sodden grass verge rather than wait a minute for another caravanner to get hooked up.
