Thoroughly enjoyed our stay

We were warned about the neighbouring building site but to be honest it didn’t impede on our stay at all and our pitch backed directly onto the building site. Fantastic location with easy access to Scarborough, Filey and many places of interest. Information point on site is excellent, a good choice of leaflets and notices for local places to eat, food outlets coming onto site, where to exchange gas bottles etc. Lots of families while we were there so it was busy. Staff were all very pleasant and helpful, always speaking when they drove/walked past, in reception & the shop. We would definitely return.

Disrespectful staff, noise, uneven pitches and broken facilities

This is the largest club site we have stayed at having stayed at at least a dozen others. It was so big it almost felt more like a haven holiday park than a peaceful club site we are used to. The first part of site felt a bit cramped when we drove through it We pitched on the newer extended site. Our first pitch up attempt failed due to a steep incline on the pitch and the electric supply being too far away for our 25m cable. The second pitch we tried also had a significant pitch both front to back and side to side, so much so I had to use my wheel wedges to raise the jockey wheel higher. These seemed to be a theme on all of the pitches on this part of site which seemed odd as they are all relatively new so not sure why they haven’t been made level. I must stress that this next part only applies to 2 members of the staff - I was subject to what felt like victimisation. I have never had an issue driving on any club site before but some of the staff seem to think that anything more than getting out to push your car is over the 5 mile speed limit and they would chase you down or radio across site to tell you so in a manner that was totally disrespectful and even threatening. This partly lead to us leaving site early. And it wasn’t just me, I witnessed other members and even children being chastised for trivial things and I have read other reviews where people have had issues. On one occasion, a member of staff was radioed on reception to speak to us and they clearly seemed uncomfortable doing so which suggests some of them know there are some poor attitudes going on. The noise from the adjacent construction site was still ongoing and was obtrusive during the day even though we were pitched a good distance away (we had been warned about it on arrival). Finally, a toilet seat was broken which resulted in it nipping across the back of my 5 year olds legs when she used it. This was so bad it broke the skin and has a large bruise. We felt the defect was obvious and should have been proactively identified and fixed before the injury occurred. All of that said, this wasn’t a bad site but our holiday was marred by too many issues. Despite its great location, we wouldn’t go back here.

fantastic and helpful warden

i want to thank one of your wardens ,she was professional and friendly ,and gave me all the help and advice we needed, nothing was too much trouble for her,it makes a refeshing change to go a site where the club rules are enforced, but done in a professional and friendly mannor.I did mention that some dogs were roaming about the site free she sorted this immediately. She also helped and gave me advice about adding my daughter onto our membership so that she could stay with our grandchildren. So thank you Terri you are a credit to the caravan club

Excellent site

Really nice site with upgraded/new facilities on the upper tier. Good for families, both on the site and location with the beach nearby and Seaside towns a short drive away. People have raised concerns about the adjacent building works and noise but although we could occasionally hear it, it was certainly not a nuisance. Apparently, the groundworks stage of the development was sometimes noisy but now complete. We thoroughly enjoyed our week there and would definitely go back.

Wow, this site is one of the best I've been to

this site is superb from all angles: - 1) the meet and greet was second to none, friendly, informative and and swift, delivered by two people who were very good at customer service (Sam and his wife) 2) the pitches are a great size with a choice of length or width, so very accommodating for what ever outfit you have, and there is plenty of space around so you are not too close to neighbours 3) the facilities for cleaning and washing were excellent and the cleanest i have seen, granted some if it is new but they really work hard in keeping it looking at its best and still new! 4) the location is as good as it gets with not being too close to the sea and the coast line but within easy reach when you want it, the little village is close by and the bus stop is just outside the site, buses running all the time no long waits that we saw 5) local hospitality - the two pubs near by were both dog friendly and very welcoming, one is available on your way back from the beach (the tow bar) and the other in the village (the star inn) 6) the walk into Scarborough is a must as the views are stunning, it is also very easy if you follow the road route and if you are not up for the walk back then there are loads of buses. 7) the beach is a decent size and there were loads of people on it but still lots of space to spread out, it is manned by lifeguards too who are very vigilant and on the ball, it is also dog friendly, only downside is the walk back up the hill! 8) we had 3 very well behaved dogs and to be fair the site had a lot of dogs on it, but every owner we met was responsible and their dogs were a credit to them, there were the usual small angry breeds but overall dogs are as welcome as kids and as long as the owners act responsibly in cleaning up and keeping their dogs under control, then more sites will be as good as this one. we will definitely be back at this site as it had everything we wanted and was well worth the visit, thanks guys for making our stay even better than we expected

Lovely site spoilt by building work

We recently had 6 nights at Cayton a lovely site with new facilities and a bus stop right outside for easy travel into Filey Scarborough and Bridlington. In the main we enjoyed our stay but spoiling it was the constant noise and beeping from the building site which even though we were on the top site (following the advice at check in about the building work behind the lower site) was annoying. The constant smell of frying from the nearby McCains chip factory if the wind was in the right direction and it was for most of our stay. The ‘planned’ maintenance that we weren’t informed of when choosing our pitch which entailed the grass being cut on some spare ground behind us and after that a small digger came and scraped the soil off into piles which were then moved and dumped into other piles causing clouds of dust this went on from lunchtime until almost 6pm. We and others couldn’t sit outside for the noise and dust and after paying almost £40 a night to have this for a whole afternoon wasn’t on. The wardens making an elderly man move his awning or take it down on a very hot afternoon was a bit ‘jobsworth’ mean and dangerous given the gents age and the hot day, he’d been there three days when it was decided he was breaking the rules having his awning onto the grass he was at the end of a row with a smaller grass area two pebble paths and a road (more than 6 metres) between his awning and the next outfit. He was extremely upset agreed he was at fault and said he would take it down. We and another couple helped to move his caravan and awning so he wasn’t breaking the rules which under the circumstances could have been relaxed a little especially as opposite him was a motorhome with its awning pitched onto the grass and closer than the 6 metre rule ??? I appreciate the 6 meter rule is for fire safety and totally agree with it but he was more than 6 metres from the next outfit so a bit of leniency and consideration from the wardens on this occasion wouldn’t have been out of place. Nice well kept site conveniently placed for exploring the surrounding area but spoilt at the moment by being adjacent to a noisy building site.

Don’t go whilst the building work is on going

We booked what looks like a lovely site, the noise and dust from the building site was horrendous, building work started at 07:30 most mornings mon to fri. The dust clouds would just cover your outfit. As much as we were offered to move pitch (after we had already set up on a fully serviced pitch) there were no other service pitches which would have made our stay any better. 2 of the hottest days of the year and all the windows and sky lights had to be shut tight. I’m sure this is normally a lovely site facility’s are of an excellent standard good showers etc, but whilst the building work is taking place just 4 or 5 meters away, I’d stay away.

First timers

Really lovely place to stay good location for bus routes, safe spaces between static vehicles the staff were always pleasant and polite with an element of humour. Very good standard of cleanliness in toilets, showers and overall site. There was only one thing that was letting the site down which was not the blame of the site itself but building works located adjacent. We will be booking in the near future as this was an exceptional place to stay

Significant building around parameter and heightened rule application

The layout and set up of the site is lovely and location with so much to do is ideal for many travellers, couples, singles or family as we were. Heavily disappointing is the heightened level of rule application that even for Caravan Club took us by surprise. Be aware of the 3 abreast patrols that go around checking for slight infringements. Also the patronising tone should there dare be an issue to be advised. As a 40 something my last recall of being spoken to in such a way was back pinching sweets out the cupboard as a small child. Currently the site has a building site on the main parameter which isn’t in the sites control but does in the summer months means high levels of dust that gets everywhere. It is disappointing this isn’t pre-warned as a new housing estate isn’t a short term impact and no offer of compensation/ complimentary offering to this negative impact is even considered, again showing up poor customer service.
