We were made particularly welcome by the friendly reception of Assistant Warden Angie Biggins and her husband. They were terrific.
WiFi was very hit or miss, more miss than hit.
Walking base
We stop at this site every August and use it as a base to walk into the surrounding hills. It's located just outside Castleton and the nearest shops/facilities are a brisk 10 minute walk into the village. The village has numerous pubs which serve excellent food (5!). Hope village is located a similar distance away with similar facilities and Hope Show ( August bank holiday) is always worth a look.
Facilities are typical CC style and standard, staff are friendly and helpful. You can get some road noise if located immediately on the left as you go in to the site and the road can be busy. You will also get lots of farm animal noise to but this adds to the charm of this site. All in all one of my favourite sites.
Walking break
Great location for walking into Castleton, helpful staff and spotless shower block, very peaceful site as it doesn't have a play area, great for the dogs. A very enjoyable few days spent over the bank holiday. Ann
Excellent Location
If you don't want to use the car after arrival this is the place for you. An easy walk into Castleton and many wonderful walks directly form the site. My only small criticism is that there is so little grass and some road noise. Excellent facilities including a drying room if you're not as lucky with the weather as we were.

Peaceful and relaxing
We returned again this year to this beautiful relaxing site and once again we wern't disappointed. The site is very well kept and all the facilities were lovely and clean, we managed to get an extra day so stayed a full week. We had some lovely walks and the weather was kind to us. we found as on many of the sites we have visited that the female half of the wardens are very friendly but the males are efficient and that is all , I think this one was suffering from man flu , still it didn't stop us having a wonderful time.
Lovely Break
Have just got back from this lovely site.Location great, staff brill, facilities clean, recommend to any member who wants relaxing break close to village with plenty of places to eat. Unfortunately club have not sorted WFI out so unable to access any streaming on tablet but will certainly be going back.
Great Site, Great area, one problem
This site is in an amazing location, it is both in a beautiful area and really close to the facilities of a well equipped small town/large village.
Once parked up (we use a motorhome) there is no need to move your vehicle for days, plenty of shops nearby and a nice small supermarket. If you like eating out there are some great pubs which sell excellent food and beer.
The only downside was the number of children racing round the site on scooters and bikes, this is really dangerous for the children and people walking around, the provision of a play area may resolve this.
the drying room is great for walkers and the facilities such as toilets are of a high standard as in all club sites but possibly a little dated but another several years in them.
The staff changed in the last month and are excellent, really friendly and helpful. Nothing was aid when I cleaned a fly or two off the front, nor was it commented on that my parking could have been better. please ignore earlier grinch like comments by folk.
Will be back, well actually I wish I was still there, in other words yes.
Enjoyable stay
My wife and I have just returned from an enjoyable 10 night stay in mostly beautiful weather at this pleasant site. Located only a short walk from the centre of Castleton where there are several pubs serving nice meals; we enjoyed The Castle, Cheshire Cheese, Old Nags Head (live music on Saturday nights) in particular. There are walks around the surrounding hills (Losehill, Mam Tor) directly from the site, and other fantastic Peak District walks are only a short drive away. Wardens at the site are pleasant and helpful, and the site facilities perfectly acceptable. Half an hour walk away is Hope Station with regular trains into Manchester and Sheffield. Whilst there were several families on site over Easter there is not a lot for children to do on site. Overall we thoroughly recommend this site for all Peak District highlights and will certainly return.
a good walkable site
not sure if there is such a word as walkable but if you like to get to site and then not have to drive again until you go home then this is one of those sites with really friendly staff and excellent facilities and good pubs in Castleton the Bulls Head and the George both doing great food the George being the better value and then the Hall in Hope having a beer festival each bank holiday you can walk all day in the lovely peak district and relax somewhere different every evening happy days !!!
An absolute gem
Just finished 5 nights here and it was superb. Spotted the site whilst walking earlier in the year and despite not having serviced pitches we gave it a go.(fetching and carrying water etc isn't that bad) Staff, facilities and location excellent. Site is well established and very well kept and run, located 5 minutes walk from Castleton and 10 to 15 minutes from Hope. The village is very nice and the access to fantastic walks within 2 minutes of the site and caves within 25 minutes is perfect. Pubs aplenty with the Cheshire Cheese Inn being our most popular watering hole and feeding station. Site is all hard standing and slopes in places, so depending on your pitch you may need levellers. Site was very popular and was full for some of the nights, we enjoyed this site and location so much we have booked a week in May. So in summary; great site, great location, staff and facilities excellent.
