Enjoyable stay

My wife and I have just returned from an enjoyable 10 night stay in mostly beautiful weather at this pleasant site. Located only a short walk from the centre of Castleton where there are several pubs serving nice meals; we enjoyed The Castle, Cheshire Cheese, Old Nags Head (live music on Saturday nights) in particular. There are walks around the surrounding hills (Losehill, Mam Tor) directly from the site, and other fantastic Peak District walks are only a short drive away. Wardens at the site are pleasant and helpful, and the site facilities perfectly acceptable. Half an hour walk away is Hope Station with regular trains into Manchester and Sheffield. Whilst there were several families on site over Easter there is not a lot for children to do on site. Overall we thoroughly recommend this site for all Peak District highlights and will certainly return.

a good walkable site

not sure if there is such a word as walkable but if you like to get to site and then not have to drive again until you go home then this is one of those sites with really friendly staff and excellent facilities and good pubs in Castleton the Bulls Head and the George both doing great food the George being the better value and then the Hall in Hope having a beer festival each bank holiday you can walk all day in the lovely peak district and relax somewhere different every evening happy days !!!

An absolute gem

Just finished 5 nights here and it was superb. Spotted the site whilst walking earlier in the year and despite not having serviced pitches we gave it a go.(fetching and carrying water etc isn't that bad) Staff, facilities and location excellent. Site is well established and very well kept and run, located 5 minutes walk from Castleton and 10 to 15 minutes from Hope. The village is very nice and the access to fantastic walks within 2 minutes of the site and caves within 25 minutes is perfect. Pubs aplenty with the Cheshire Cheese Inn being our most popular watering hole and feeding station. Site is all hard standing and slopes in places, so depending on your pitch you may need levellers. Site was very popular and was full for some of the nights, we enjoyed this site and location so much we have booked a week in May. So in summary; great site, great location, staff and facilities excellent.

1st Stay

This was our first visit to Castleton and I we were very pleased. Firstly for us easy to get to albeit the Rivelin road is somewhat bumpy (ensure everything is battened down) if you travel this way. Upon arrival the staff as usual were friendly and helpful even though the site was full they still had time to go through everything, we picked our pitch (8) it is the largest pitch we have had in our 5 yrs with the van. All the site facilities were kept clean and tidy as usual. The weather and Castleton made this a most enjoyable stay, plenty of walks plus the caverns and after all that about 6 pubs to quench your thirst most of them doing food and some fine ales. People in the village very friendly, cavern guides very knowledgable. Overall a great stay and will return.

Relaxing break at February Half Term

We found the whole experience very well organised when we visited the caravan club site at Castleton. The wardens were especially helpful and supportive to us. The toilets and site generally were very clean and tidy. Our dogs especially enjoyed the woodland dog walking area. Overall, we enjoyed our first visit to Castleton.

Good Easter Break

We arrived round about lunch time and joined the cue, but thankfully the very helpful wardens started to process the eager Easter Break members before the usual deadline which was much appreciated by all. The site is quite compact but nevertheless clean and tidy, especially, for this time of year.  We arrived on Thursday for a four night stay, thankfully, the weather over the weekend just got better and better and the site coped well at full capacity. The site is well positioned on the edge of the Peak District and is just a short half mile or so walk out of Castleton.  The only issue we had with the site and it's only a small issue because they were always clean and tidy, is that the toilet blocks are now showing their age.  My wife told me one of the shower floors in the ladies block was bear concrete! Castleton is a small compact village with six or more pubs and good food is readily available.  All the pubs accept families, dogs and muddy boots. Although the posh one opposite "The Castle" provide plastic overshoes.  Being on the edge of the Peak District the site is well placed for easy driving/sightseeing and plenty of walking, even direct from the site. It's the third time we've visited this site and it will not be the last.  If you like the outdoors this site is a must - book it as soon as you can.

Great site in a wonderful location - missing a park for kids

As the title suggests this is a great little site in a lovely location, 5 mins walk from Castleton with it's lovely pubs, caverns and walks on hand. The toilets & showers were fine and clean all the time.  The only thing missing for us was park or playing field for the kids.  The pitches were hard standing and the biggest we've ever had....despite the missing entertainment for the kids, we'd come again.

Castleton - great site

Great site. Showers spotless & piping hot. Like the all weather pitches especially as weather was so wet before Easter.  If I could add one thing to make it perfect it would be a dog shower.

Getting away for Easter

Well we visited this site over easter, not many pitches available but got one with nice views. I am so glad we did go as the walks are fabulous all around (once you have got to village), and met lots of people on Mam Tor just brill. Had meal in village - not too bad. Did try chip shop but was closed most of the time! Such a beautiful place the gorge is stunning. We are going again October.
