Nice short break

Just had a nice few days at this lovely site.Easy to find, good choice of pitch.used 1st one we saw !! Bit of traffic noise but not intrusive.Used shower with adjustable rail and couldn't move it.Nice to have really hot water, see signs at most sites saying hot water but it usually isn't. Walked into village and used bus to Sheffield.Weather okay and sat outside to watch the world go by.People from van next door said TV reception awful,we didn't find that a problem.

Lovely Six Nights Stay

Just returned from a lovely stay at Castleton. Friendly wardens, who obviously take great pride in maintaining the site, which was spotless and extremely tidy. As mentioned in an earlier review you do get some road noise in the bottom pitches, think the motorcyclist use the road for a rat run! Dog walk is too small but just a few minutes walk left or right out of the campsite there are footpaths. Great situation for walk either direct from the site or within a few miles drive. Didn't eat out out there are plenty of pubs to choose from in Castleton a few minutes walk away. Wouldnt say it was an ideal site for young children. TV Reception was quite bad couldn't get BBC,and this seemed to be general with the vans near us , but had no problems with the wifi at all. There are two very minor issues I have and that is that there is only one hand dryer in the ladies toilets, which usually meant a wait to dry your hands, not really enough with all the loos. Also the water in the sinks is dangerously hot, scalding, there are warning signs, but it's too hot to wash hands. All in all a very nice site.

Our views

We were made particularly welcome by the friendly reception of Assistant Warden Angie Biggins and her husband. They were terrific. WiFi was very hit or miss, more miss than hit.

Walking base

We stop at this site every August and use it as a base to walk into the surrounding hills. It's located just outside Castleton and the nearest shops/facilities are a brisk 10 minute walk into the village. The village has numerous pubs which serve excellent food (5!). Hope village is located a similar distance away with similar facilities and Hope Show ( August bank holiday) is always worth a look. Facilities are typical CC style and standard, staff are friendly and helpful. You can get some road noise if located immediately on the left as you go in to the site and the road can be busy. You will also get lots of farm animal noise to but this adds to the charm of this site. All in all one of my favourite sites.

Walking break

Great location for walking into Castleton, helpful staff and spotless shower block, very peaceful site as it doesn't have a play area, great for the dogs. A very enjoyable few days spent over the bank holiday. Ann

Excellent Location

If you don't want to use the car after arrival this is the place for you. An easy walk into Castleton and many wonderful walks directly form the site. My only small criticism is that there is so little grass and some road noise. Excellent facilities including a drying room if you're not as lucky with the weather as we were.

Peaceful and relaxing

We returned again this year to this beautiful relaxing site and once again we wern't disappointed. The site is very well kept and all the facilities were lovely and clean, we managed to get an extra day so stayed a  full week. We had some lovely walks and the weather was kind to us. we found as on many of the sites we have visited that the female half of the wardens are very friendly but the males are efficient and that is all , I think this one was suffering from man flu , still it didn't stop us having a wonderful time.

Great Site, Great area, one problem

This site is in an amazing location, it is both in a beautiful area and really close to the facilities of a well equipped small town/large village. Once parked up (we use a motorhome) there is no need to move your vehicle for days, plenty of shops nearby and a nice small supermarket. If you like eating out there are some great pubs which sell excellent food and beer. The only downside was the number of children racing round the site on scooters and bikes, this is really dangerous for the children and people walking around, the provision of a play area may resolve this. the drying room is great for walkers and the facilities such as toilets are of a high standard as in all club sites but possibly a little dated but another several years in them. The staff changed in the last month and are excellent, really friendly and helpful. Nothing was aid when I cleaned a fly or two off the front, nor was it commented on that my parking could have been better. please ignore earlier grinch like comments by folk. Will be back, well actually I wish I was still there, in other words yes.
