Watch out for screws

As per my previous review I love this site and don't let this post put you off staying here. We're on pitch 89 and I found a selection of screws, bolts and pieces of wire on the hard standing, not the kind of thing you want when you have an air awning nor costly 4x4 tyres. I suspect what I have found is simply a result of the refurbishment work. Everything I've found has been disposed of in the bin and it might be worth others checking their pitch too.

Lovely peaceful site

Only stayed for a cheeky one night get away, but we'll definitely be back. Very impressed with the cleanliness of the new facilities. Staff were friendly and welcoming and everything was well laid out. We had a choice of pitches, which were all level and well marked out. Shame we couldn't stay longer, but we'll definitely book again and for longer next time..

My favourite site

Absolutely love this site simply because if I want to I can avoid driving the car for the entire stay. There are numerous footpaths including a lovely 20 minute walk into Castleton through fields or 10 minutes if you walk along pavement on the main road. Castleton is packed with dog friendly cafe's and pubs so when you and your dog are done walking there are plenty of options for relaxing with some great food and drink.

If you like walking this site is a must visit! 31st July 17 we'll be there again and I can't wait.

Christmas in Castleton

Wow, what a great site! Although we know it is soon to be refurbished it is still a lovely site and brilliantly situated for Castleton and all its amenities. We are always welcomed by great staff but here the staff go that little bit further just to make you feel a bit special (even collected our gate pass to save me getting out!!). The site looked especially festive with lights and Christmas Trees. If you are new to the club this would be a great introduction. You can walk into Castleton in 5 minutes and enjoy lots of cafes, restaurants and pubs. Too difficult to recommend one as they all seem to be offering a great service. The town also looked very pretty with each retailer decorating their own trees. The walking is great with the 4 caverns and Mam Tor available straight off the site. A spectacular area served by a great site. You will not be disappointed!

Great stay

Me, my wife, and Oscar (our dog)had a most enjoyable stay at the Castleton site. We are new (ish) to caravaning and the wardens were very helpful, assisting with setting up (issues with heater) and knowledgeable about the locality. The toilet block, whilst in need of updating, was very clean and the facilities are excellent, information office, drying room, table tennis/poole room, laundry and veg prep rooms all available. WE looking forward to returning after the refurbishment, late next year. Castleton itself was also a very dog friendly location, with lots to keep you occupied, excellent walks, and 4 caverns to visit.

Back to stay with an old friend

We returned to Castleton after 10 years away from caravanning. We used to live locally and often stayed on the site for relaxation even when we were working.  Happily, it hadn't changed at all and even though it's getting a refurb in January it's still better than other  Club sites we have stayed in this Year! We agree that the toilet block is looking tired and it will be good to have some super pitches.  We found the ladies in the reception some of the best we have met this Year. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Excellent site and managers

We've just had a very enjoyable short break at Castleton, our first visit to this site. The welcome from the managers on arrival was first class and they were more than helpful during our stay. This was one of our most enjoyable short breaks on a CC site in over 20 years with the Club and the managers made it so. Well done to you all!

Wardens Not Up To Standard

Still a favourite of mine and nice to hear that some redevelopment to bring it to a higher standard is planned. The toilet block is to be renovated, some hard standings are to be reconfigured into awning pitches, and the old camping field is to be turned into serviced pitches. So all in all a good site is being made great. Unfortunately the weekend didn’t pass without problems. I am a great supporter of Health & Safety and the first issue involved the ruling of distances between vans. We chose pitch 76 a With Awning pitch. However, the peg was tight in the rear left corner. We asked at the office if this was correct and were told it was as the pitches at either side had blue pegs so we accepted that and reversed on to the peg. A few hours later a motorhome parked behind us. There was a narrow low hedge between us. He had parked so close to our van that the safe distance of 6 metres was well and truly compromised. The distance between the rear wall of each unit was nearer half that. I checked over the hedge and the motorhome was pitched correctly on the peg, which like our peg was tight into the rear corner. I went to see the warden who explained that the pitching space was correct and that if the distance diagonally corner to corner was not less than 3 metres then things were ok. My estimate was that it was a lot less than 3 metres. So the whole scenario made a mockery of the clubs safety ruling. The second problem occurred on returning to the site after very heavy and prolonged rain. Our pitch was completely under water along the offside of the van. As a result the electric cable was submerged under about 3 inches of water. I had to retrieve the electric cable and run it along the upper part of the hedge and then prop it up so it could safely reach the locker door. The cause of the problem seemed to be the grass apron between us and the next pitch. This was a lot higher than the hard standing chippings resulting in a dam like effect holding the water back. I told the warden about it as he drove past, he explained that he was just a relief warden. His response was they had never had the problem before and that he would pass on my observation to the site Warden we he returned next week. He didn’t even bother to have a look or even ask about the electrics. I would have thought a possible solution could have been to dig a trench through the grass to relieve the amount of water. The pitches involved were 76 and the one to the rear was 68

A lovely site in a great location.

When we arrived we were met by one of the wardens(I can't remember her name) but she was helpful in giving us information about the site layout etc.We chose our pitch and set up our caravan. After lunch we walked into Castleton to check out the pubs for meals and live music nights.Friday and sat we enjoyed walks up into the hills (16miles in total) The site is in a beautiful location with plenty to do.The scenery is stunning and we will definitely be coming back again next year, there is so much to explore.
