Few days away.

High hopes for refurbished site,Not sure why Club bothered.Still poor flushing of toilets,Motorhome point still congested.Puddles of water by toilet block due to badly laid paving.Path to cut corner off by entrance, but no path by road so needs care using.Trees etc need a trim. Bus to Sheffield on time both ways. Nice cafes etc in village but watch prices. Lot road noise Good for walks if you are fit and able!! Scenic jouney if you don't mind being near edge of roads.

Great site

Now it's been refurbished Castleton is a great site, with a clean, spacious toilet block. The dog walk is a joke however! And with a a fast main road outside which has to be crossed to walk off the site it does detract from the overall experience. The hills and dales surrounding the site are glorious, and the village of Castleton is just a short walk away ( once you have crossed the main road), with lots of pubs and cafés.

An opportunity wasted

Whilst the updated facilities block is lovely, the rest of the site looks decidedly tired. It's a shame the club didn't make use of the time the site was closed to refresh the hard standings, rake the gavel, redifine the edges, and generally spruce things up. The dog walk is not fit for purpose, it's not secure dogs can run through the hedge along the approach road or through the old metal rails on the main road side. The new gravel paths are a step in the right direction, but there is only mud or nettles alongside them for the dogs to utilise for their toilet. I witnessed many dog owners walking their pets round pitches not necessarily their own, to make use of the grass. As a dog owner I was disappointed. We had high expectations in advance of our stay but unfortunately they were not met.

Excellent caravan owner with dogs

Booked last minute on 11th Aug met with friends who had a new caravan Great site cosy and very friendly we have dogs as did most others on site we found the site relaxed very quiet and the children on site well behaved. A site well worth the visit-good size pitches, staff excellent and extremely helpful, a little stressful getting to the site but worth the trouble on narrow roads.this site is on our to return list. Thank you for a wonderful visit

Noise

Pandemic problem on all caravan sites - people neglecting their dogs leaving them to bark incessantly - should be mandatory that dogs are controlled at all times and not locked in or tied to a post - so please a little consideration for others!

Pick of the Peaks!

Just stayed 4 nights on our first visit to this site. Certainly won't be the last! As keen walkers, we were perfectly situated for some excellent walks and with only a few minutes walk into Castleton and it's plentiful supply of pubs and cafes, never felt isolated. Stuck to the clubs local directions and access was easy. No need to use the car during our break, which was an added bonus! Excellent site!

Lovely site

This is one of our favorite sites and its our first visit since the refurbishment, love the improved dog walk and the proper lit path across it to exit the site now, the toilet block has been gutted and all new in all very nice and clean but sadly the water pressure is still rubbish in the ladies which is odd as my husband says its fine in the men's, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that it might be sorted out, also the shower heads all seem too close to the wall, just wish that you could have put in proper shower heads that you could adjust the angle on. Location wise though this site is fantastic, walking distance to Castleton & Hope and so much to do on its doorstep and a good bus service should you want to go further a field.

Review of the revamp

Being local this is a site we visit many times throughout the year and have missed visiting it during its revamp closure, so were eager to see the new changes. The toilet Block has been refitted out, the layout remains the same but is now clean and fresh, what is a huge disappointment is the shower pressure, this always was and remains utterly dismal, although I'm told it is fine in the men's. The dog walk has been smartened up with a new path, lighting and an additional gate fitted and fully serviced pitches can now be found in the old annexe. I'm struggling to see why these changes took 9 months, however Castleton remains one of my favourite sites. Be sure to visit Tilly's tearoom and The Nags Head and The Grasshopper cafe in Hope.

great upgrade!

The new shower block is top-notch as we now expect from the CC. Site security is good as are the (new?) electric pedestals. Very relaxed with only some of the pitches in use but will become busy as the site fills up during summer. Lots of walks directly from the site and Castleton is on the doorstep with shops, eating places and attractions. 10 minutes away is Peveril Castle which is free to English Heritage members.A selection of caves worth a look-see are within walking distance. Mam Tor not to be missed for hikers plus lots of other great walking. What a great place!
