Long weekend birthday break

Had a couple of nights as it's not too far away for us. Just a birthday getaway and went to Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese for her birthday. had a drink and excellent Sunday roast. Recommend the place as it is only 10 minutes walk from the site, as is most of Castleton really. 20 yards further up is the quirky Peak Hotel, good ales and strange things on the walls. Great to walk around the village. Site up to the usual high standards expected from the club. Some of the pitches of appear to have a slope from front to back, so if your corner steadies are not overly long a block or two might be an idea to include in your kit. It is a great weekend getaway if local (we are on the edge of Peak District) and if from further afield you could spend weeks in the area, it's beautiful. It does appear quite a busy site, so don't leave it too late to book.

Good position to walk & cycle from

Easily accessed site, gravel pitches which most require some form of levelling system. One way system so don’t forget to visit the Motorhome service point on the right as you pass through the entrance barrier as you can’t return to it without going out the exit barrier then back through the entry barrier again. Seemed to be a lot of dogs on the site some better behaved than others, one unit having 6 dogs! Excellent walking & cycling routes direct from the site.

Great first voyage into motorhome Travels

Access to site really good and the team makes sure you have a map.know.where to.go. Pitches are really well spaced, and facilities are fabulous, shower toilet block warm, washing up area enclosed and plenty hot.water. Water and disposal.fcilites well distributed on site, dog walking areas small.but adequate. Drying room real.bonus. Had couple of seasoned travellers who didn't have a volume button and obviously wanted people to benefit from.their conversation but other than that was fabulous. Great first voyage and well worth.membership onto.next adventure hope all go as well as this one. Well organised site great facilities and location.

Lovely site close to local facilities

We have been to the Castleton Club site many times, it’s a lovely site in a beautiful setting. The facilities of Castleton village are only a short walk away, with many pubs available, serving excellent food. Most places are dog friendly. It was very, very cold during our stay and we did have an issue with the site electricity going off across our part of the site, which was a little frustrating, however this will not put us off returning in 2024.

Bears in Castleton??

Used this site for years as we like the location, but CAMC are doing their best to ruin it. The showers are modern, but as with all other “renovated” CAMC sites, the water pressure is always PATHETIC meaning it takes 3 times longer than it should to shower. The water is never better than luke warm, even in winter. The water supply in the EHU freezes every time the weather gets cold, which I’d have thought, given its location, would have been an obvious issue to address when it was renovated by CAMC a few years ago, but clearly not. CAMC’s latest idiotic idea is to make taking rubbish away as difficult as possible by moving all the rubbish bins to a location as far away as possible from users to outside the site office. Then put in huge industrial wheelie bins with ridiculously HEAVY METAL LIDS which we are then supposed to wrestle with one handed, whilst trying to chuck in the rubbish with the other hand. Why do the lids need to be metal? As far as I know, bears aren’t an issue in Castletown. How are guests in wheelchairs or with any kind of physical mobility issues supposed to deal with that??? No doubt CAMC will hide behind “health and safety” issues as is normal for all their other many, many, many, many rules (making a stay on a CAMC site seem more like a trip to boarding school than a holiday). When someone breaks a couple of fingers losing control of the lid or gives themselves a concussion trying to chuck their rubbish away, MAYBE CAMC will realise their stupidity.

Great site, have visited twice before! location is excellent for walks & pubs in castleton 5 minute walk.

Great Site, definitely worth a visit, location great and facilities are good. only criticism is bit pricey anytime of year but then its always pretty full , and booking in advance is a must, also not sure about policy on extra nights stay, but when I arrived on a Tuesday and booked in until Friday (as website said full on the Fri/sat in November) asked the warden if they could let me know if a cancellation occurred, so I could stay extra night, to which I was hastily told "all on the website, you have to keep checking?" this however was a bit difficult as the WiFi was not working during our stay, so we left on the Friday as planned, but when driving out we could see signs out saying extend your stay, pitches available! so bit disappointed that the wardens couldn't be bothered to let us know, bit unusual as normally find the wardens super helpful!

Great for walking

A great site for walking, particularly up to the Great Ridge and Mam Tor. There is some road noise from some parts of the site and the layout in regards to the motorhome service point is odd. You have to leave the site to re-enter in order to use it. This means more traffic around the site than needs be. Great facilities and we experienced an incredibly efficient booking in process at a very busy time. The fish and chip shop in Castleton is excellent. Always a queue but worth the wait. One drawback is that this site has become very expensive and whilst of high quality and in a great location it is staring to feel not such good value for money. I expect to pay more than on a non-club site, the facilities are after all excellent but the cost for my two night stay this October felt very expensive.

Great location

We don’t drive off site and spent 5 nights here (4 complete days). We found plenty to do each day with a variety of excellent and interesting walks, long and short, hilly and not hilly. Castleton and Hope villages are a short walk away and have small shops and cafes. On a wet day we took a 1 hr bus ride to Sheffield via Hathersage which was scenic and interesting - £2 each way & free for English concessionary bus pass holders. Other routes are available. We will definitely return to this popular site.

Perfect for us

Lovely site in a great location. Nice easy walk into town. Site was quite full but very quiet. Facilities were clean and warm. Our pitch was level and they all looked a good size. Castleton is a nice town which is great just walking round the roads. Loads of great, dog friendly pubs. We ate in Ye Olde Nags Head. Amazing dinner! Perfect site or walking!!
