We had a terrible smell around our caravan which we thought originally was coming from our toilet, but this proved not to be the case, so thought it may be a gas problem but this proved not to be the case! All we could think that it was a blocked drain as we were pitched near to the motorhome service point. I reported my suspicions to I think Tom who said he would look into it. Later that day as we returned to the caravan, the smell was still bad so I went and found him to see what he had discovered. He had found no problems with the site drainage but offered to come and investigate with me even though it was nearly eight o'clock at night. Within a few minutes he diagnosed it was probably our battery that was causing the problem and on checking, the battery was busy boiling away in the battery box underneath one of our berths!
He advised me to immediately disconnect the power cable, which I did, and I strongly suspect that if I hadn't we would have had a fire imminently. I cannot thank him enough for his dedication to making sure we resolved the problem and preventing us from having a disaster. Btw the rest of the staff are great here too!
Excellent 3 night stay
The site and staff were excellent. Facilities good and kept clean, made use of the drying room for walking gear. Good size pitch. Will stay again definitely and take up the option of pizzas available on a Wednesday. They looked good. Thank you for a special 3 days.
Great site and perfect location
Lovely site, friendly team and spotless facilities.
The wood fired pizza van visited on Thursday evening - great pizza!
5 minute walk into the village, great bakery and loads of dog friendly pubs with good food.
There is an outdoor clothing and boot store behind the visitor centre that sells everything you could need.
Peveril Castle and Mam Tor are great walks
One of the best
Second visit to this site this year and already planning to return next year. Site is well situated, clean facilities and friendly wardens. Just love the drying room especially for spring and autumn it’s a godsend. Easy short walk to Castleton with great pubs our 2 favourites are The George & The Bulls Head. Lovely cafes especially The Three Roofs. Everywhere is dog friendly. The views are amazing with lots to do in the area and if you are National Trust members there are several great places to visit all within a 45 min drive. We absolutely love Castleton and the site.

Fabulous stay
Had a wonderful weekend here last week. A very friendly, efficient welcome, great facilities and so convenient for the beautiful villages of Castleton and Hope, look forward to returning.
Fantastic Site!!
This is one our favourite sites that we come back to every year..and this year it’s been a fabulous stay again!!
Site kept in perfect order by the friendly helpful wardens and located in the ideal place to give easy pedestrian access to the nearby town and eateries.
We had the best Sunday lunch at The George in town, our only one regret this trip was ordering an Indian takeaway from the Curry Cabin in Hope, very poor quality.
Excellent site, fantastic location
This is our second visit to this lovely site. Great location for walking into Castleton and from there many walks. Lovely place, lots of pubs serving great food and some local shops to buy the basics. The site is peaceful and very well maintained, the staff were very helpful and friendly. The facilities were spotless. We will definitely be back.
A cracker of a site...
Stayed here for a couple of nights to relive childhood memories of Castleton; credit to the wardens, this site is absolutely immaculate & well presented, in fact, its one of the best kept sites on the system...& we've visited quite a few over the past 30 years! Well done the wardens.
Great location and facilities
This was our second time at Castleton and once again we were not disappointed. The site is only a 10 minute walk into the village with good facilities of a bakery, village store , gift shops and plenty of good pubs with good food and dog friendly.
Plentiful local walks around from the village of different abilities.
The visiting food vans with pizza and fish and chips were very good.
The site staff and the facilities are excellent and the site in general is well maintained.
Relaxing Break
The site is in great location. Lovely walks round about and nice pubs which serve lovely food and dog friendly which was good. The site was very popular but peaceful. Friendly staff.
