A week away in February

A lovely site nestled away in a small wooded area just a 10 minute walk away from the village. Arrived on a busy Friday, which was not a problem for the wardens. All was under control with a very friendly and quick entry. Some of the pitches are a little close to each other but others providing ample room. Site is very clean & tidy as well is the toilet block. Site was full at the weekend which is great to see people getting out in their vans. Castleton at the weekend is busy busy busy however come week days a much more relaxed atmosphere. Cracking pubs in the town, Ye Old Cheshire Cheese pub is a must for a stop, superb pies and huge choice of local ales. A great week and one to return to again.

Peaceful & friendly rural idyl.

We chose to come to Castleton for just one night to break up our journey home and to simply relax. The site is set in a glorious area of outstanding natural beauty and is within walking distance of a lovely village, with several pubs and eateries, just along the main road with a pavement all the way. Trish welcomed us upon arrival and showed us on the site planner, where we would best be suited to park up, due to having a larger Motorhome. Trish then suggested we take a tour around the site & choose the most suitable pitch for our personal needs. When she learned that we were not planning to actually do anything physical due to my husbands need to rest, Trish then offered to visit our MH with the site keys etc, once we had chosen where to site. This was above and beyond the service offered and very kind of her, especially as it was a very cold and wet January day. Trish was super friendly, informative and kind. A credit to your club and we would certainly recommend visiting Castleton again. The services were clean and within easy access of the site. The bins well labelled and our pitch was fairly level, though we did raise one front wheel to make it absolutely level. A WORD OF WARNING WHEN LEAVING FOR HOME - ESPECIALLY LARGER MOTORHOMES!! Our sat nav is for HGV's and set up with all our dimensions etc. Sadly, this did not prevent it routing us RIGHT from the site entrance & to a totally unsuitable road, heading up Winnats Pass between the peaks. The road was very steep and half way up, we realised that due to the heavy rain falling, the undulation of surface & the lack of grip on the road surface, it wasn't sufficient for our twin axle Motorhome to maintain its momentum. We were therefore forced to reverse all the way back down to the Speedwell Cavern and use their car park entrance. This was a tad hairy to say the least. I got drenched managing the traffic flow around our stranded vehicle as we eased it backwards slowly around the bends. The locals were really understanding and offered their support but we managed without incident luckily. It was unusually busy that day - apparently- approximately 100 vehicles were directed during the whole process but we were just glad to get back safely and head out the village towards the Lady Bower Reservoir and home along the Snake Pass. Castleton is truly inviting and we will definitely be back but we wont ever turn right out of the CC SIte in our MH again.

Fabulous Christmas and Lovely Wardens

Visited the weekend before Christmas when all the ice was really bad, we arrived late due to frozen pipes and the staff couldn't have been more helpful, to the point of lending a heater to help us defrost. We had a booking elsewhere over Christmas and decided to change it to Castleton, the staff helped us swap this ( due to the hideous booking system ) so off we went home and came back a few days later to the warmest of welcomes :-) the staff here can not do enough for you - Thank you Lots of walking from the site and an easy walk along the river into hope, a few styles can be a little awkward if you have a big dog. Lots of pubs, café, bistro's in the village. The weather was again unkind and rained for the majority but we still enjoyed it all the same. To the Wardens Thank you for all your help with defrosting and the offer to help our burst pipe over the Christmas period - you know who you are :-) hopefully our next visit will be plain sailing.....

A Very Merry Christmas

Our short break at this site started with the warmest of welcomes on Christmas Eve. The wardens couldn't have been more helpful. The site itself is very well kept and only a short walk from Castleton, where there are a number of good pubs and coffee shops. We have already booked to go again in the summer.

Great site in a fantastic location.

Castleton is a great site in a fantastic location. Walking distance to Castleton, which has a great choice of pubs and cafes. Wardens were very friendly and helpful especially with the arrival process. I personally wish more of the sites on the Club Network were like this in terms of Serviced pitches and location.

No 5stars for the showers -freezing cold - dribble of water.

Well it is certainly a great site, no doubt about that, wardens when we were there were very friendly which sadly is not always the case nowadays, but we were on site mid September and the temperature was down to around 6* in the evening, the shower blocks were the same, no heating and the water although hot came as a dribble, the flow rate was quite honestly pathetic, this linked to no heating was not what one expects after a days hiking.

Fantastic site/base

Booked a non awning pitch literally 2 weeks before arriving. It pays to keep looking at their booking schedule. Fantastic site for a base to either sit and chill or adventure out on the many walks and places to visit. Literally 7/8 minutes to walk into Castleton and probably the same the opposite way into Hope. Many walks all around the site. Every pub except one allows dogs inside with allowing them in the beer gardens. Site facilities are as good as any I've come across, very clean and tidy with lots of the too. Pitches mostly level with a few scattered around the site where ramps may be required. Works on a first come first serve basis, you drive around and pick your spot, setup and report your pitch number to reception. I repeat this is a great sitting in a lovely part of the derbyshire countryside.

Castleton Stay

We were here for a weekend in Castleton, and walking up Mam Tor. The site is a short walk from the town with some excellent pubs, shops and food outlets. The site itself is clean, friendly, and all the facilities are really clean and comfortable. We will definitely be returning.

Beautiful Location

Great location for Motorhomers within gentle strolling distance of the delightful Castleton and on a bus route. Wonderful walks in the area although the Castleton walks leaflet is dreadfully confusing and we met many lost souls !!! An expensive site at £41 for a small motorhome, 2 adults and small dog but I guess it’s a tourist hotspot. As with all club sites it was spotlessly clean and the wardens were delightful. Highly recommend The George pub , absolutely delicious food .
