A pity about the island hard standings
The welcome I received was second to none. The resident wardens were fantastic, friendly and extremely helpful. I was lucky to be camped on a hard standing that was adjacent to the pathway. However, there are several hard standings that are situated away from the pathways. This means that you have to walk over 2 - 3 metres of grass to reach your outfit. Not a problem in the dry season but be prepared these do get muddy in bad weather. The toilets and showers were very clean. Information shed was well stocked with all the leaflets and timetables you will need whilst staying on this wonderful site. If you can't find what you are looking for, the wardens are only too pleased to help. There is a bus stop to take you into town within easy walking distance. The rail station is on the bus route. It is a very cycle friendly city. It is approximately 3 miles flat walk or cycle ride into the town. There are many restaurants (10 minutes), pubs with food (5 minutes), shops (10 minutes), take-away(10 minutes) all within easy flat walking distance. I enjoyed my stay during February and will return in April.
The overall scores DO NOT reflect my views on this site. For some reason I cannot alter the scoring. Overall 4 stars, 5 stars for cleanliness,
Nice peaceful site within easy reach of Cambridge centre
Fantastic site in Cambridge
Just back from this great site near Cambridge. Facilities are very good and if you are on hard stading and don't need to cross the grass to get to your pitch all very good with a lovely layout. Very helpful relief Wardens who despite only being there a few days gave us lots of good advice. The location is excellent for Motorhomers with 2 pubs, bus stops and a Tesco express close by. The train station is about 2 miles away and if you pick your trains carefully the costs for two adult returns to Ely was £4.80 !
