Stayed for a few days in school half term during very warm February. Really friendly wardens, lovely peaceful site and a short walk to the bus stop. We stayed on a pitch on the lower part which was very quiet but if you have a very long low motorhome like our Bailey 79-4 you might find your bottom scraping a bit going up the hill- take it slow. Cambridge beautiful, and try the Chelsea buns at Fitzbillies...gorgeous.
Confused over hardstandings
Currently staying at Cherry Hinton, having rung before booking to check availability of hardstandings (7.9mtr motorhome) I was rather disappointed to discover that although all their available pitches were hardstanding many were approached via grass. There were tyre ruts and mud on most pitches. Luckily, because of the weather it was relatively empty, so we were able to find a pitch, although relatively short for our outfit, accessible via shingle. Don't get me wrong the site is ideal for Cambridge but consider using in the winter months if you have a heavy motorhome.
3 cold nights in Jan/Feb!
We use this site when visiting our daughter and always enjoy our visits.
The wardens were very friendly and helpful.
A thin layer of snow did not prevent movement but greater use of grit would have helped confidence, especially on the steep path from the lower pitches to the toilet block.
The facilities were spotless but in need of an update, tiles not replaced after repairs in the gents and botched repairs to the hairdryers in the ladies did not help their appearance.
Cherry Hinton
Lovely site, new very friendly warden's, nice dog walk in the quarry opposite. 10 minute bus service into Cambridge . Will definitely use this site again
New Year's Eve 2018 at Cherry Hinton
Cherry Hinton suits us nicely for a short winter break as it is but 42 miles from home and an easy tow to get there.
The proximity of frequent local bus services makes it an easy exercise to get into the City of Cambridge where there are a wealth of things to see and do as well as the big named High Street shops to explore for those elusive bargains.
It appears that for caravans and motor homes the pitches are hard standings but some would benefit from hard paths to link them to the site roads. This becomes a problem when there is wet weather and a high possibility to transfer mud on the shoes into your vehicle.
We stayed on a pitch at the lower level and handy for the site sanitation block which was handy enough but would have benefited from a water point and grey water drainage point to serve the pitches at the lower level.
The ambiance of the site is generally calm and a social gathering put on by the Wardens at the site office for all member staying for New Year's eve was attended by about 40 people and was much enjoyed.
Overall it was a pleasant stay and the third time we have stayed here for the New Year festivities.
Avoid pitch 11. Lots to do in Cambridge
Booked in for 3 nights but ended up staying 5. My first night was on pitch 11 but there were high winds and a leaning tree above me creaked and groaned all night. Also on that pitch it was really noisy with shouting from a sports field nearby. The next day I moved to another area which was a lot better.
I loved Cambridge and the bus service was great. But at this time of year it gets dark early and there is no lighting on lime kiln rd and the lights on the driveway to the site were not on. I didn’t feel very safe because of this.
Temporary wardens were on site. Very friendly and helpful. The showers weren’t as clean as some other sites I have visited.
needs a bit of tlc ,
Spent 4 days here , wardens very friendly and helpful even though they had just taken over and finding their feet , however , the site itself needs a bit of money spent on it , tiles missing in the gents toilet etc . the lower pitches are very wet and muddy , hardstandings need re-surfacing and drainage improvingig . we still enjoyed our stay though .

Beware the PIT
Just stayed here for 6 nights. Facilities are very good and very clean. Water and waste facilities are very close to all areas. The site is very quiet except for the sports facility next door which has a lot of shouting. If you want to have an awning on your caravan then beware because you will be put in the "Pit". This is the lowest area on the site and with the very tall trees around it you will not see the sun all day. Also if it rains that's where the water will run down to.
Amazing place
We are Italian on holidays; stayed just one day. Lovely place, easy to find and reach with a motorhome. Well located not so far to Cambridge downtown where we went by bike. Good facilities, quiet place, nice hardstanding pitch. Very friendly staff, we were told useful advices and we were lent a city map with bike paths. Amazing place to stay in.
Quirky little site.
Wardens pleasant. Site well kept. Perfect for a Cambridge visit. Not sure it would be the best site for children re the layout. It was quiet.
