Cae Mawr is a gem of a site. Adults only, very peaceful and beautifully kept with very friendly wardens. The lack of a facilities block means that the site is perhaps quieter than some, but that's how we like it. Using one's own facilities is not really a hardship. There are numerous chemical disposal sites and water points throughout the site. Rabbits and red squirrels abound and the site is well sheltered from the wind.
The beach is a slight distance from the site but not too taxing a walk.
All in all a great place for a relaxing break away from it all !
Our Favourite Site, Red Squirrels and Lovely Wardens
We've been members for over 30 years and visited many, many sites all over the UK but Cae Mawr is the one we keep wanting to return to, most recently 2 weeks at the end of September. No toilet block, who cares, we've all got our own facilites and the price for staying on this site is reflected in the fact. If you are vigilant you will see the Red Squirrels. Must mention the grass; the warden is out every day mowing somewhere. Every time someone leaves a pitch he is there to mow and make sure all is ready for the next occupants. The grass always looks immaculate and he has to get 10 out of 10 for his attention to this but we did see a few thoughtless drivers who apparently didn't appreciate the work that goes into keeping the grass nice; people who even though on holiday, didn't have a minute to wait for someone to move their outfit out of the way so they could get past on the road and resorted to driving across the grass!!! The warden always has time to speak to people and/or wave as he goes past, he is always waving to someone and you'd think at the end of the season when we were recently there, he would have shown some sign of tiring of this but no, a cheerful smile/comment and a wave were always forthcoming. Nothing is too much trouble and he even offered to replace our gas cylinder off site as the replacement was not available on site at that time. Cae Mawr is a very welll laid out site, also very peaceful. There is a little road noise at times but of course it does depend where on the site your pitch is. Our pitch this time was next to the motorhome waste disposal/water point mentioned in another review. We had no problem whatsoever with this, in fact it was very useful to be next to it as our water hose was long enough to fill our tank without moving our motorhome off the pitch so we liked it, also didn't see anyone else having a problem but it's horses for courses! Due to Covid, everyone is asked to take their rubbish to the main bins near the exit to prevent cross contamiination with the handling of bin lids. Also the newspaper ordering service is not available at the moment, probably to minimise the number of times guests need to enter the reception building and put themselves and the wardens at risk; they are doing everything possible to keep us and them safe during these troubled times; well done.
Peaceful and relaxing
A site I really like for its nice peaceful setting. There is a nice pub at the end of the service road on the main road. The hidden gem here is Traeth Bychan beach, about a mile or so away. The beach has lovely views and is clean and unspoilt. There is also a cafe (only opens weekends out of main season). The beach is on the coastal path and has a pay and display car park with a toilet block. You can also launch a boat here if you have one using the concrete slipway. We walk to the beach from the site, although you need a reasonable fitness level, especially for the way back which is mostly uphill!
There is no toilet block at the site, so you will need your own. Disposal of chemical waste is provided, plus the usual standpipes for drinking water etc.
Another nice feature is that there is a small red squirrel population. Didn't see any on our last trip, but we did on our previous visit. Most of the pitches are quite flat, with an odd one that will require the use of levelling blocks. About 40 - 50% of piches are grass, the rest hardstanding.
Nothing much for children here, a better site for just adults. Staff are very helpful and friendly.
Peaceful site on a lovely island
Sssh! This is a lovely peaceful 'no facilities' site, long may it remain so. Red squirrels can be seen on the site and we have encountered muntjac deer in the old quarry in Marian-glas. Stars abound on a clear night. Very easy circular dog walk from the site, a little further walk can be taken to St Eugrads church. Good local shops in Benllech including a Co-op, Tesco express and a Spar. Larger Asda at Llangefni. Sadly good eating pubs are harder to find. The White Eagle at Rhoscolyn is far and away the best, and we've been told the Gaerwen arms is in the up. Kinmel arms in Moelfre is ok for food but has a lovely outlook over the harbour, A walk from The pub along past the lifeboat shop and station to the monument to the ship the Royal Charter is a must. The Boathousr at Red Wharfe bay is very good too. Wardens at the site are first class, friendly and helpful. Cant recommend the site highly enough, but don't tell everyone!
Lovely little CMC site!
We are currently staying on Cae Mawr Club site and felt that we should really try and redress the balance after the previous review. We arrived and were greeted by a very nice warden who told us to inspect the pitches and decide which one we liked and, after setting up, let her know where we had decided upon. The pitches we looked at were all fairly level and a mixture of hardstanding and grass. We chose a hardstanding which required a little levelling but nothing much and, looking at other caravans/motorhomes on site, not many have much if anything in the way of levelling blocks which would indicate to me that the pitches are on the whole fairly level. The only area that may have required more levelling would possibly be in the centre of the site on the grass sections which would possibly suit smaller units due to the undulation. But having said that we saw a twin axle caravan with the tow hitch touching the floor in order to get the caravan level. However I assume that they were given the same options as we were on arrival and had a choice of whether or not to site the caravan on that particular pitch.
There are a few seasonal caravans dotted around but I would have to say that not all of them are on ‘prime’ pitches and there are more than enough nice pitches for visitors.
I don’t think this site is particularly good for families as there is nowhere for children to play and there is a little road noise at busy times. There is a small path under trees that leads to a larger field which is a pleasant walk with or without a dog and beaches within walking distance. Moelfre and Benllech are easily accessible via the coastal patches if you feel like a nice walk.
The motorhome service area is quite close to us and whilst we have been here we haven’t been aware of any problems to date.
Once a unit leaves the pitch the wardens are there mowing the grass and checking that the pitch is ready for the next visitors and they are always pleasant and helpful whilst staying unobtrusive.
The visiting fish and chip van calls at the static site next door on Tuesdays and although they are very nice, they are a bit pricey at £20 for 2 fish and chips with peas.
We have been to Anglesey many times and usually prefer CLs but I must say we have been pleasantly surprised by the site and would have no qualms about returning in the future.
Finally regarding the previous reviewers comments about pitch 1 being unavailable it occurred to us that perhaps it was because it’s the nearest to the wardens office so could be reserved for one of the wardens? However it was in use all the time we were here.
Nice site but few issues!
Just returned from 6 night stay at this site. Good location and overall quite a pleasant site. However, no previous reviews seem to have mentioned a few issues. First, a lot of the pitches are quite badly sloping. Second, the Motorhome service point is in an awful position. Pitch number 39 is frankly a dangerous place to be if you have anything other than a very short caravan or Motorhome. Directly opposite is the motorhome service point which is on an uphill slope and is difficult for units to either reverse in or go in forwards. A number of Motorhomers seem to miss the drain with their waste which means it runs directly onto pitch 39. Not good and some motorhomers are to blame. However the main issue is the access so that requires attention. When reversing off the area, any unit on pitch 39 is in dire danger of being hit. Also when motorhomes decide to reverse onto this area pitch 40 ( which we were on) is also quite a dangerous place to be, with units encroaching onto this pitch in order to get into position. Thirdly, we noted a number of seasonal caravans, most of which seemed to be empty during our stay. Inevitably they have the best pitches thus restricting choice for others. I don’t think this is very good even though I’m sure the seasonal pitches are being paid for even when empty. Normal tourers should not have restricted choice. Finally, we noted a few pitches, when empty, suddenly had cones at the front of them, thus not allowing these pitches to be used by others. Pitch 1 was a notable example during our stay. Why that is I don’t know but this is not acceptable in my book.
Anglesey First Timer
We were looking for a peaceful site somewhere we had not visited before typed in our preferred dates and up popped Cae Mawr, read the reviews and that was good enough.
We booked for a week in our caravan found it strange that we could get on this lovely site then realized it had no facilities block this is not an issue to us as we tend to use our van facilities most of the time, I am guessing this may put some people off booking this site though.
Upon arrival we were met by a lovely warden who explained everything in detail she even directed us to a lovely pitch on grass No 28 this is down on the bottom part of the site and it is nice and level with great afternoon sun.
There are plenty of things to do including great walks and even better beaches, if you are into water sports especially paddle boarding this is a great place to visit.
The village of Benllech is about a 2 mile walk down the road with pubs and places to eat including a Tesco express for essentials, there is also a bus that runs at the end of the street about a 15 min walk away (No62).
One thing to mention is that currently all rubbish can only be disposed at the top of the site in the main bins, no issue as you pass it on your way out of the site in the car.
Overall a great stay and would definitely return, I would say that if you require a peaceful stay this is a great place for you.
Thanks to the club for making us feel welcome to Wales.

Our first ever caravan trip
We decided to buy our first caravan this year inspired by childhood memories of caravanning with parents .This first trip was designed to check everything on the caravan was working and to get used to setting up etc. Despite our best efforts in preparing to travel we realised that we were going to arrive later than anticipated . I called the wardens to explain and they were most understanding and said that they would stay on to show us the ropes . Upon arrival we received a warm welcome and an informative discussion about the site .We were directed to a hard standing , flat , pitch close to services which , the wardens felt , would be easy for us to set up on . They even stayed on to check that we were ok following set up . The site itself is in a lovely , secluded , woodland area .It is very clean and well manicured. The atmosphere very friendly and relaxed . We could see red squirrels . rabbits , skylarks and other wildlife from the caravan window .The site does not include toilet or washing facilities but we did not mind that as we could use our own facilities which we prefer anyway in the current climate. A short walk from the site affords a beautiful , panoramic view of the Snowden mountain range and coast .It is a quiet , tranquil location which would probably be suited more towards adults rather than families with children .We really enjoyed the experience and it has made us realise that caravanning is for us and we are, very much , looking forward to our next visit .

Just fantastic
Once again our stay at cae mawr was brilliant. Very peacefull site and always the warmest of welcomes. June 19th we had the pleasure of relief wardens who cover sites in chirk and penrhos .Alls i can say is what a fantastic couple to meet. Very polite ,always cheerfull and by god i did not see them stop working all day long keeping the site to a high standard and sanitizing facilities regular. Clearly this is not just a job to them both .its a passion that they do very well . Thank you for your hospitality.
