One of the not so good ones.

Spent 5 nights here beginning of June 2015. There is a ridiculous cattle grid near the entrance of the site which shakes the life out of you every time you go over it no matter how slow you go. It's made from 5" round tubes Not like normal cattle grids. God knows what damage it does to your car and caravan. Some pitches including the one we were on have stupid big boulders opposite the pitch stopping you reversing onto the pitch properly. Not everyone has a motor mover. The toilets were never ready on time after cleaning. The sign said 11.30 but I waited until 11.45 with others several times. There was no apology for delay either. Won't be going back to this one.

Unique & Excellent Site

Decided to have a weekend away and chose Buxton CC site as there is a lot going on in and round this area. The quarry location is quite unique so made for a stay that was a little different. The site was pretty full over the weekend but it didn't feel that way as the pitches are quite spacious. True, mobile phone signal is pretty none existent which can be a good or bad thing for some people. Plenty of walks straight from the site into the nearby country park. We walked up to Solomon's Temple and had a great view from the top in glorious sunshine. If I was picky, I would say that the power from the showers and the toilet flush wasn't up to the usual Club standard and dare I say no piped music !!. I must point out that although we had glorious weather during the day, when we left on Sunday it was heaving with rain. As my wife returned from the office after booking us out she was accompanied by a lady warden holding an umbrella over my wife's head to keep her dry. Now that's what I call customer service with a personal touch, at its best. I don't know her name but she had light coloured hair, you know who you are so a big thank you from the both of us. We plan on returning to this site in the future.

4 days in June.

1st time at this site staying long weekend. Very friendly warden welcome. When we arrived it was very windy and starting to drizzle. The site is quite spaced out so a drive round is important to pick your spot, however some of the access roads are quite tight and although im an experienced vanner' I had to use the motor mover to get my unit onto our pitch. The site is quite sheltered as its the bottom of a quarry which helped when putting up the awning.  Plenty of good walks and some stunning views and only a short drive to the Errwood reservoir which is another loverly walk. DONT follow your Sat Nav read the directions in the club book.

First visit

The site is well positioned for touring the Peaks and access into the site was easy from Leek.  Hard standing is the only choice, but there is plenty of space between the motor homes/caravans.  Remember to pack sturdy pegs, as the wind does wip up from the quarry. Our only complaint was the lack of service points..making the trip for water or waste a little trek if you're at the far end of the site. One thing to mention...midges. Pack your insect repellent.  Not sure if this is the norm for the Peaks, but we were bitten daily and the fly screens in the caravan a must.

Second visit.

This was our second visit to Grin Low. We stayed here last year. Overall it is a great site and in a good location for the fabulous walks and sites of the Peak District. I have only given 3 stars for peace and quiet as the noise from the Jackdaws on the quarry face was a bit annoying especially at 4 in the morning. Perhaps a 12 bore could sort them out. We had pitch 52 which is easy to get on and exit the site, it is also a short walk to the only toilet block. The site is located in an old quarry that has been set out very well with plenty of room between pitches however some are a bit tight to get onto if you haven't got a motor mover. You will need levelling blocks and strong pegs for the awning. The ground is very hard in places and difficult to get a peg in. Buxton is a fair walk from the site mostly down hill which is fine but don't forget you will have to come back up hill. Toilets are fine and clean. Wardens sell a nice range of food items and a Fish and chip van visits on a Saturday. We will certainly be back to this site but will find a pitch away from the Quarry edge.

Good Base For Walking

Short stay over Spring Bank holiday. Friendly, efficient welcome from wardens. Pitches good size and well laid out. Excellent base for local walks particularly through the woods to Buxton town centre. Will visit again for another short stay.

Lovely Site

Arrived to a very warm welcome from the new wardens who were extremely helpful throughout our stay. Pitches large and level. site is situated in an old quarry and is very well laid out. The park outside the gate is a great dog walk. The only downside for us was the long walk on the main road/footpath to Buxton, we were unable to use the short cut through the park due to having to use wheelchair. Having said that, we enjoyed the walk downhill to the town, beware, it is a constant hill all the way, we had a taxi back otherwise I would still be pushing. It was 4+ miles there. Was a bit disappointed with the fish and chips, bit too greasy for us. Would use Buxton again but would hire a car next time as transport is a must.

Buxton easter

We visited at Easter this year and the kids were soon into the Easter colouring competition. The wardens were new and very helpful and pleasant. Good walking from the site and a short drive into Buxton which is a lovely town. Toilets and facilities were clean and site kept pristine . Will visit again and enjoyed our stay here.

Great Location for the Peak District

Most pitches on the site are very sunny but it can be very windy despite being in an old quarry.  You approach the site through the country park which is just lovely and a 15 minute walk through the country park brings you to the Broadwalk which takes you into Buxton.  Take the path up towards Solomon's temple and then follow the signs to Poole Cavern.  This takes you down through the woods.  Take Temple Road opposite the car park to the cavern and follow it down to the bottom.  The Broadwalk is on the other side of the road.  It's up hill most of the way back!  The Temple is well worth a visit as you can go inside and climb to the top to see stunning views.   Buxton has a great park - well kept and full of things to see and do. There are great play parks for the kids - all ages and on the weekends there is something going on usually outside of the Pavilion. There are plenty of ducks to feed and squirrels and a lovely river running through.  There are a good variety of shops including M&S, Waitrose etc and a market a couple of times a week.  The main High Street has all the usual places - Boots, Costa Coffee and is pedestrianised.   There is a Morrisons on the outskirts of town and a small co-op and Sainsburys.  The reservoirs are well worth a visit - they are beautiful and take you through stunning countryside. The Monsal Trail is AMAZING !  A fairly easy bike ride that takes you through long tunnels and through stunning countryside.  We rode all the way along to Bakewell where we spent an interesting few hours. The church is worth a visit, they have some very old stone carvings and a lot of local history.  There are plenty of places on route to stop and eat/picnic and enjoy the views. It's about 9.5 miles each way if you do the whole thing.  Parking is well signposted but finding a leaflet nearly impossible. Best to print something off before you go.  Here is a link  http://www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/visiting/trails/monsaltrail The Tissington Trail is also very good,  but very different, open countryside rather than tunnels. We rode from Parsley Hay to Tissington.  Tissington is a super little place, with an interesting church (look for the gravestone of the man that died on the Titanic), a lovely coffee shop, duck pond and Edward & Vintage sweet shop. There are also 6 wells - and Tissington is the home of well dressing apparently! No 6 The Square in Buxton has the most huge pieces of cake and wonderful coffee and well worth a visit - a real old fashioned tea house.   The wardens at the time of our visit were super helpful and friendly and really made us feel welcome.  There is only one toilet block so bear in mind it's a fair jaunt to the toilet block if you are down the far end of the site.  There is a lovely play park for the children but no dog walk although the country park is only a skip from the gate.  Fish and chip van comes Saturday night - they were ok but a very long wait for them to cook! A great base for the Peak District.

overall a good site

Lovely friendly site with large pitches.  Only three water, bins and waste areas which can be a distance from your pitch if you are not physically able to push/drag water barrels etc this could be a problem.  No TV reception for us and children were running between the areas and having a dog with us he wanted to bark at them.  We would return but go midweek when the children are at school if you are looking for a peaceful relax.
