Great Place to Stay let down by tired facilities

We booked a 5 day stay and stopped for 7. So judge for youself what we thought overall of this site. However compared with other sites we have stayed on this year the Shower Block was about 5 years overdue for a refit The Wardens did their best to keep everything clean but this needed a lot more effort than it should. Come on Club you are letting the members down by not getting this site up to standard.

Enjoyable weekend

We really enjoyed our weekend stay here. We have 2 dogs and the close proximity to Buxton Country Park is a dog walkers heaven. The views from Solomons temple which is only a short walk from the site are absolutley breathtaking. Better signs in the wood to Buxton would be helpful, we did get a bit lost. Lovely staff on site, very helpful and the Saturday fish and chip van means a cooking free night. Will definitely visit again

Great weekend

Lovely site. Well she.teted as sited in an old quarry  Walk out of the site and you are right into the country park. The staff were real helpful and even managed to persuade me to buy a rather large Bakewell tart from the small supplies available. It was rather yummy?? The only difficulty we had was finding our way through the woods to Buxton. It is described as a "stroll through the woods into Buxton" However us and many others arrived in Buxton and returned to the site, with absolutely no idea how we got there! Very poorly signed Everything else was great. A really good weekend

Sheltered Accomodation

Set in a former quarry, this site is sheltered from the most severe weather, except rain, which can flood a number of pitches, however, the water quickly drains away. You will need extremely strong awning pegs as the standings are rock hard. I bent at least half a dozen steel pegs fastening down the awning. As others have said, the toilet block is in need of refurbishment, when we will hopefully say goodbye to those dreadful plastic stools in the showers. We stayed here a week at the beginning of August and were subjected every day and evening to barking dogs, whose owners seem oblivious to how annoying it can be. Two great places to visit within 20 miles are Tissington Hall and Gardens and Pugin's Gem, St. Giles RC Church in Cheadle Staffordshire.

Beautiful Buxton

Went here August 2015 with our 8 year old granddaughter. The approach to the site is well signposted and a easy drive. You are left to drive round and choose your own pitch which is not always the case at CC sites which is nice. Most pitches are fairly flat but some do have a bit of a slope and some are bigger than others.  We parked near the children's playground. The toilet/shower block is typical CC which is one of the reasons we stay in the club sites. However, although clean you just felt they were starting to get a bit tired and they are quite a walk for those who may have to park at the other end of the park. Can't fault the hot water though, it was scalding! The site is so picturesque in a beautiful part of the world with quite a lot to do round about. We only stopped 3 nights so limited ourselves to going the the super Bakewell Show and a walk into Buxton. Overall we will come back even if it's for the breathtaking view as you leave the site heading back to the main road!!

A very attractive site

Everything about this site is good. Its location lets you visit the dales without going through the town. It is very sheltered and, because it is sloping, excess rain runs away. There are good walks from the site through woodland into Buxton. The Wi-Fi works well. The only downside is the aircraft noise in the morning and evening, when planes are coming over every minute or so.

Nice Site in Good Location

A lovely site in a great setting. We enjoyed our 5 days here and it is one we will be returning to. All the usual facilities at a standard you would expect from the CC. Buxton is a great town to visit and go shopping in and is only a couple of minutes away. It is worth noting two things though, firstly, once again whilst visiting a CC site, the peace and tranquillity of what is otherwise a beautiful setting in the heart of the peak district was spoiled by inconsiderate dog owners allowing their dogs to bark uncontrollably all day long. In particular there was one 2 pitches away from us and it wasn’t even as though the dog was unattended, it was at their feet as they sat their drinking whilst it barked away!!. Unfortunately though, it wasn’t the only dog to be doing this and as the site is in ‘the bowl’ of a quarry, the barking echo’s and can be heard all around the site from top to bottom, I am surprised the staff don’t do more to control it? It must be said that the vast majority of dog owners do control their dogs behaviour and barking and it is always the minorities that are either oblivious to the nuisance it causes other users or simply don’t care. The other point is the wifi. Whilst accepting that £25 per annum is cheap for wifi access across the caravan club network, it is mostly unusable at every site, as we have tried to use it at many CC sites this season. It is VERY slow at Buxton and unusable on our pitch, as we were at the bottom end of the site and could not get connected at all, so had to go to the top of the site near the office just to get connected. When we did, the speed is still so slow it is only fit for sending emails with no attachments, forget anything else that involves any sort of data usage (including web surfing, streaming etc), as your patience will get the better of you (if hyperthermia doesn’t first).  I don’t know why the CC club continues to use Air Angel as their wifi supplier, as it is the speed of ‘dial up’ at every site and they are by far the worst supplier of wifi out there. We keep our caravan at a non CC club site on a seasonal pitch, which also uses Air Angel and the wifi there is also completely unusable, so we don’t bother any more. Other sites to see are the caverns and caves of Derbyshire and although there is Pooles Cavern in Buxton, the Blue John Mine about 10 miles away is by far the better one to visit, although be warned it has 249 steps down and you have to come back up! We will be returning to Buxton as we really like the site and the area.

Lovely location

We stayed here for a week in August. It is a pleasant site well placed for visiting many areas in the Peak District. Buxton is a lovely town with good eating facilities and beautiful parks and gardens. There are lovely walks surrounding the site and beautiful views, although the site itself is quite enclosed in an old quarry, so no views. The site is nicely laid out and well maintained and the wardens are very friendly. The facilities are clean and adequate, but a little tired and in need of refurbishment. Water pressure in the showers seemed very low. The wi-fi is rather expensive (2.50 per day or £10 per week). We had one day of very heavy rain and our pitch was quite waterlogged, although all pitches are hardstanding, and it quickly drained once it stopped raining. We will probably return as there are places we did not get to visit on this occasion.

Great location

Spent 10 days at Buxton and had a great time. Plenty to do in the area. Site was peaceful and staff very helpful. All facilities clean and plenty of hot water for a shower. Pitches a good size.
