Vibrant Brighton

had a lovely holiday in Brighton. The site is well situated in parkland, yet is fairly close to a good public bus service into the town. A busy but very well run site with good modern facilities. Brighton is special, a 24 hour a day town. My next stay will be longer as there is so much to do.

Holiday spoilt by horrible warden

Brighton - good location - nice site - spoilt by 1 warden The site is in a nice location surrounded by green fields - football courts and cricket fields. 5 mins drive into Brighton city centre and only 10 mins walk to the marina. Car parking in Brighton is expensive but there are buses available, car parking at the marina is free for 3 hrs and there are plenty of good places to eat. The site is well maintained with good facilities - all except for 1 of the wardens are very helpful and friendly.  Our holiday was spoilt by 1 of the wardens horrible attitude - he felt it was appropriate to talk down to you as if you were a child. About halfway through the holiday one morning after taking my Cocker spaniels for a walk (off site) I popped to the toilet block leaving my wife and the dogs at the van. My wife was tidying around the van while the dogs lay down in the awning. Unbeknown to my wife the dogs must has caught site of a rabbit in the trees opposite our pitch and made a quick escape. My wife only realised they had gone when the warden in question returned the dogs to our van. My wife was embarrassed that they had escaped and tried to apologise and explain that this was the first time they had ever escaped like this, however the warden wasn't interested and was more interested in ridiculing my wife. He asked her if we had dog leads - if we knew the rules about dogs and then went on to tell my wife that she MUST go and check the vicinity to make sure the dogs hadn't left a mess, she tried to explain that they had been out for a walk less than 10 mins ago and they had both emptied themselves - he wasn't bothered and continued with a bully boy attitude to my wife. Less than 10 mins after I had left I got back to my van to find my wife upset and the dogs locked in their cages. My wife explained to me what had upset her - I was also very upset at this point and begged my wife to point out the warden in question - but she couldn't be sure of what he looked like as she was shocked - all she could remember was his uniform. I really wanted to give him a taste of his own medicine! What upset me was the fact that we are very responsible dog owners who always walk our dogs off site, never walking our dogs around the site like some dog owners who think it's ok to let their dogs mess on other members pitches even if they pick it up straight away -we think that is not very nice. If we are sat outside our van our dogs are always on a rope so they are unable to bother anyone else. The caravan club needs to invest in customer service training as I feel that we get a higher level of customer service on some commercial sites.

LOVELY SITE

Stayed here for a week in July 2015 and found the site excellent...A big site to maintain but beautifully done.  Only two small gripes...such a big site but so few actual toilets within the two blocks..(male toilets..) and a sledge hammer needed (well nearly..) to drive in your steel rock pegs through the hard standing.  Otherwise perfect, we would certainly stay here again.

Brighton Rock!

Some earlier comments make reference to the hard standing needing rock pegs - you actually need a pile-driver not rock pegs. The pitch I was on only enabled rock pegs to be put in around 3 inches into the gravel before hitting solid rock.  The wardens actually lent me a chisel to try and break into the rock first but that made little difference.  Eventually, after around 3 hours, I managed to get every other peg into the ground but I wasn't happy with how secure the awning was and several came out during a particularly windy night - thankfully, I managed to drive my storm straps into the ground otherwise I would have been in trouble. The facilities were spotless - piped music into the shower block which I understand has just been refurbished.  Plenty of showers and never had to queue even with the site being full all week. The site is peaceful other than the wardens who insist on riding the sit on mowers/ATV's around the site in pairs for some strange reason constantly throughout the day! You can park in the nearby marina for free and then the bus runs regularly into Brighton centre, however, if there is more than 3 people in your party, get a taxi as it works out cheaper and quicker! In Brighton, lots to do and see - if you are visiting Sealife, pick up a leaflet (or two) from the information room (Things to do in Sussex) whereby you get 2 for 1 entry £17.50 for 2 people. The pitches are very spacious and the site well laid out - there are lots of wild bunnies running around even during the day! Wardens were friendly on the whole and spent alot of time maintaining the site ie hedgecutting.  There is even a help yourself herb garden by reception which is a nice touch. I don't know if I would return to the site, not due to the site, more the location ie wouldn't return to Brighton but was pleased with the location and facilities of the site itself.
