Much improved access, toilet block work a nuisance

Previously, the real bugbear of staying at Sheepcote Valley (as this site has always been known) was the access road.  Brighton Council have at last taken action, the parking on the access road is controlled, and there is now very little chance of getting stuck when a vehicle comes the other way. Generally the site seemed much more pleasant as a result, apart from the rebuilding of one toilet block.  This led to quite a lot of early morning noise and some disruption on site (apologies from the Club on the web page, but no offer of a discount!)  It also seemed to us that the proportion of pitches not filled was much less than the proportionate reduction in toilet and shower facilities.

same old same old

We have just come home having spent a week at this site, 18th 25th April. we visit this site at least once a year, but this will be our last. Why do some dog owners believe we should all love their dog, why do some dog owners on the site think the keep your dog on a lead on site rule doesn't apply to them, why do some dog owners consider that it is Okay for them to have their dog on a 25ft lead defecating on unoccupied pitches. The pathway down to the main road is like a dog poo obstacle course, as is the pathway down to the marina, and before you all let loose, I love dogs, it is just the owners who behave in the way mentioned that I loath. we don't call it Brighton any more we call it Shighton. On our last evening at about 4.pm the pitch next to us had new arrivals within 10 minuets 2 teenage boys were playing football on the grass behind their pitch and our pitch, with a proper leather football, am I the only one who reads the rules? Once again I don't dislike kids, I just don't like their parents who don't give a dam about the rules or other people? I cant fault the staff I think they must be saints to put up with some of the visitors.

Disappointed

This is a beautifully landscaped site with generous pitches but our visit was spoilt by the uncharacteristic attitude of the some of the wardens. Having stayed at many caravan club sites we have always been impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of wardens. There is no dog walk on site but the entrance from my pitch was approx 5minute walk, having set of for the entrance with my dog ,I was stopped by said wardens and told I couldn't exercise my dog on site as I was not exercising told the warden so but he wouldn't back down. This was repeated by a female warden to fellow campers. Hopefully this is an exception and start of the season shake down. It would really be helpful if a site of this size had a dog walk. The walk to off site exercise areas was challenging for the less mobile and desperate dogs!!

No shows

We had an enjoyable stay at Brighton with the location being very good lots of walks and close enough to Brighton Centre.  One of the toilet blocks was being refurbished meaning the other block was rather overworked so we tended to shower in the van. Our only major fault was we wanted to stay an extra night and was told that there were no cancellations and the only vacant pitch for the extra night was on a service pitch with no room for the awning at the other end of the site. OK no big deal but had to take down the awning in the rain and dry it when we got home. The following day after we moved there were seven vacant pitches (including the one we vacated). Were they ALL "no shows" with no prior notice? Very frustrating.

Very good site

AS per previous review I to found a male employee to be very rude we had 2 occasions with this man and lets just say anywhere else there would have been a different outcome. Overall the site is clean tidy, the washrooms was very clean and tidy if any complaint I would say the hot water was not very hot, but then back to the above man he would explain health and safety chapter and verse.

Customer service?

Oh dear!! A great site let down by unruly site staff who were more bothered about taking the money off the new arrivals (and cleaning their own caravans) than looking after the members already on site. A visit to charm school would not go amiss!! Don't get me wrong, the site is very clean and in a great location, but this is the most expensive site we have ever stayed at, and really I expected better. The noise of the local football club was a slight distraction, but it was more amusing than anything else. My gripe is with the staff turfing people out of the shower block on the stroke of 10:30 so they could clean it. This was due to the other block being closed for refurbishment, but that meant more people using the one block, and it didn't matter if you did get up earlier, there was usually quite a queue due to some who seemed to take forever to shower and use all the hot water! My partner witnessed 3 men in the ladies before 10:30 telling young kids to 'get out', and they only backed down when confronted by her telling them off (and without abuse)!! The disabled toilet and laundry were similarly policed. On being told that by talking to the member of staff cleaning the laundry room would only delay my partners intended use of it, the member of staff was politely told that she could have easily started the dryer going in the time it took the staff member to tell her that!! I expect that we will go back at some point, but we won't rush back!

Favourite site

This is our favourite site. Only an hour from home, but it is our little place in the City. Few sites offer the peace of the countryside on the doorstep of the city, but this one does. Minutes from the site there are beautiful walks on the downs, yet the beach and the city centre with all it has to offer ( and Brighton has much) are within a bus or cycle ride. Yes, there is some noise from the nearby stadium on rare occasions, but this is a city site after all and the peace and quiet on offer for 99% of the time are in fact surprising. I recommend it 100%. Just one little change I would like to see is direct footpath access from the site onto the downs above the site.

Great Site & Staff

Just spent 16 nights at Brighton. What a great site, excellent staff who do a really great and sometimes difficult job and the facilities are spotless. The only downside to this site are some of the ignorant animals who call themselves members of the Caravan Club. OK, there are building works going on which the club are paying for to make things better for its members. What a shame if the remaining toilet block closes at 10.30, can't people get up earlier?? The site staff have allows of tasks to complete during day, not just cleaning toilet blocks. Some of the abuse I have heard these ignorant animals giving to site staff over things that are completely out of the teams control was disgusting. These so called members should have been kicked off site and had their memberships cancelled. Site staff are not there to be abused EVER. On the plus side, the weather has been great, site spotless as always and it seems every time we come here, more and more improvements have been made. Well done to all the site team and the club for a great site, we will definitely be back soon.

Oh dear more problems for Brighton

Good news - the approach road is now fixed and much easier to enter and exit. But, on BH Monday we all experienced unbelievable noise from the football stadium adjoining the site. Three sets of drums, a siren, trumpet and other items were constantly used. Awful man songs were chanted. I wonder if their wives know their macho men are banging drums etc? The noise is now being monitored by environmental services, so the 'beautiful' game can be enjoyed without this idiotic crowd spoiling the day.
