Brighton Campsite
First time in Brighton
This was our first time visiting this site, the location of the site was very good, tidy and clean. We got flooded out while we was staying there,so stay away from pitch 80 if you can.. The site is next to a park which has been taken over by travellers unsure if they permanent residents in the park!!
Comment from The Club:
Thank you for your feedback. The travellers are not permanent residents and we would like to assure you that The Club did all we could whilst they were at the park, providing security for a situation that was out of our hands. We are pleased to advise that the travellers have now been moved on and it is no longer an issue for the site.
First visit to site.
Spent last weekend at this site and had superb weekend with good weather. Slight difficulty with a deputy warden but it was resolved later but it left a bad taste in the mouth. Facilties were spotless and hardly ever busy and my wife and I never had to queue. The site was well looked after but I do wonder if the wardens keep to the 5mph rule because I find it very difficult sometimes. What was a shame was that the travellers camp at the entrance made dog walking very difficult but well done to the Caravan Club for putting a security guard on the gate during the night. What a job opening and closing the gate which he always did with a smile and cheerful greeting.

Good but some problems
We have stayed at this site several times as we like the location – although it’s not quite as near to Brighton as some say – about a mile to the sea front and a further mile and a quarter along the front to the pier – and further to the centre.
The good news is that the road leading to the site is now generally clear of parked up vehicles. The bad news is that the park next to the lane to the site is full of travellers – and I mean full! Basically, the park is now out of bounds to the public and dog walkers. They have ripped down fencing and turned the park into a complete eyesore. I have no doubt that they will be using the Club toilet / shower facilities, as they aren’t secure.
The site itself is like many Club sites – well maintained with a good bit of planting and hedges. The site does allow tent camping, but these are in a separate field to one side of the site. The site is set into a valley and surrounded by hills. A lot of the pitches are slightly sloping and levelling blocks may be needed.
The toilets are perfectly fine and clean, but the site was full (August) and there really weren’t enough facilities – there were often queues for toilets and showers, whilst the silly wash cubicles that they insist on providing stood empty.
There is an information office full of leaflets, bus timetables, local attractions etc.
The Club wi-fi was limited and intermittent. The phone signal (Three) was reasonable. TV reception was fine.
The site staff are friendly and keep the site in good condition, but I do wish they would enforce some of the basic rules – people were leaving well after 12 noon (despite the site being full) leading to a lack of choice for new arrivals, people pitched all over the place (including right next to their neighbour), kids cycling at speed against the one way system, dogs on the loose......all ignored by the site staff while they rode round on their tractors.
The nearest place for food is down at the marina – a 20+ minute walk (steep hill coming back!) or 5 minutes in the car. There you will find an Asda store, a number of other shops and a host of eating establishments.
The big attraction for this site I suppose must be its proximity to Brighton. Be prepared for the walk however, or to pay about £20 per day to park near the promenade. Brighton is a bustling seaside resort, with a pier (amusement park with rides etc at the end), thousands of places to eat – ranging from fast / take away food to every type of bar and restaurant you can think of, a town centre with most of the usual stores and some unusual ones and lots of entertainment on the sea front – volleyball, kids rides and generally strolling along people watching (and there are some very strange people to watch!).
The local bus service is very good – they are frequent and go everywhere.

Late with our review but....
pity about the travellers
we used this site for 8 nights, after 2 days we were joined by at least 50 travellers. they used machinery to pull down the fencing then to gain access to the upper part of the park they destroyed a well established hedge I call it criminal damage.I agree what the other reviews say but the other sites we use normally have some sort of security on the toilets we then carried on to Crystal Palace there toilets had key entry this would at least stop the travellers from using or toilets, would we return?

Travellers
Lovely site.....except for the travellers on Brighton Park. I was intimidated on many occasions. They had used most of the park as a toilet and dumping ground meaning very few places to walk my dog without stepping in something vile. Travellers kept insisting that MY dog belonged to them and trying to entice her to them. Only way on and off the site was to walk past their squalid camp. Totally ruined my holiday, didn't feel safe walking my dog and nearly got knocked down by them speeding up and down the lane and on the park itself . security had been put in place overnight to keep them off site. I have reported all of this to the police. Would love to come back but hear that this problem occurs regularly. Site staff great and none of this is directed at the caravan club. Expensive disappointing holiday in all.
