Cars

The site is well placed for visit to Brighton with good bus connection. Its clean and the staff are always very friendly, however some who use the site clearly cannot understand the 5 mph speed limits. We were on a pitch just opposite the first toilet block and many cars going past seemed to think they are on a normal road, travelling at least 30 mph. What is the rush!!!??? This needs to be enforced as while I don’t have a young child or dog its really annoying and can be dangerous, particularly in the awful weather we had this weekend.

Not the best of sites

This site is extremely convenient if you want to visit Brighton, and it is a well laid out site as per most Caravan Club locations. Beyond that it doesn't have much going for it. Firstly, many of the pitches are laid on something close to concrete and, despite being classed as awning pitches, it's only possible to get pegs in the ground if you come equipped with a hammer drill. Secondly, for some reason it has been decided to close the office between 1000 and 1300 hours (although I think this has now changed to 1200), resulting a long queue of vehicles waiting to get in. The lane approaching the site is once again occupied by an assortment of motorhomes, caravans with number plates removed etc being used as living accommodation, despite there being parking restrictions which clearly are not enforced. And try getting in and out of the site with a large outfit when football is being played in the park and you are going to struggle. The site accepts non-members so there is no control over who stays there, and there is nothing to stop a group of rowdy yobs using the camping pods for a boozy party weekend as happened while we were there. Now let's get on to dog owners - am I the only person who takes any regard of the section in the Club book that says "do not allow your dog to urinate or mess anywhere on the site"? There is a huge field right outside the gate yet most people seem to think it is OK to let their dogs use any part of the site as a toilet. I had one woman allow her dog to pee on the grass outside my awning and another who allowed her dog to poo right in front of my caravan. It's time the Club got to grips with this. And finally, despite being given a COVID leaflet asking people to keep their distance and not cut across other people's pitches, people are too lazy to stick to the paths and walked right in front of my awning just to cut a corner off, including one of the staff employed to clean the Airstreams. I will probably suffer this site again because it is convenient for Brighton where I have family but were that not the case I would give it a wide berth.

Enjoyable stay, suits singles or mature couples / friends.

There’s no doubt this site is great for visits to Brighton, although within a short walk to the beach my personal opinion is it’s not ideally suited to families, it has a mature feel, although there is plenty of space immediately outside the site for ball games. The access road does have some pot holes which look to be marked for repair, but note this is very dark with virtually no street lighting after daylight has ceased. There’s a decent Co-Op (Whitehawk Road) & Asda (Marina) for supplies. You can catch a bus from Whitehawk Road/Co-Op straight through the town centre (Pier or Pavillion) all the way to Portslade/Shoreham. Uber taxis are the easiest method if you have the App for travelling about. But then if you bring your cycles there are routes both ways, East - the under cliff route to Rottingdean & beyond or West - all the way along the see front passing the Western Esplanade close onto South Basin Road, stopping at Carats Cafe for refreshments. The site itself is clean, tidy all in line with the clubs standards & the wardens were attentive & friendly.

5 day visit

Grounds require some maintenance (ie: grass cutting/weeding). The site is very popular with dog walkers who continually excercise their dogs on site despite the fact there is a large open grass area adjacent to site. One warden actually allowed his dog to urinate against the motorhome water point & then allowed the dog to defecate on a grass area immediately outside a campervan, this is not a good example, having been a dog owner most of my life I always made an effort to excercise my dog in appropriate places. Despite this I have enjoyed my visit.

Little to complain about

Just got back from here, our 5th visit. In our opinion it is ideal for a shortish visit. The site is clean and spacious, the facilities are fine, if looking slightly worn. The area is great for recreational cycling and probably good if you are energetic too ! The marina is nice to have a walk around (plus there is an Asda there) or you can walk into Brighton (30 to 40 mins) or catch the Volks railway in, though in the current climate its worth a miss at the weekend or evening due to people having little in the way of brains when it comes to social distancing. If you want a sandy beach you have to travel miles. Really impressed with the site and its attitude to Covid never had to queue, so why was it so different at Trewethletts ?? The wardens were great and responded fantastically when there was an issue caused by a local water leak. All in all a very enjoyable visit once again.

Fabulous 5 days

Having read some of the previous reviews, we were a little worried - however we needn’t have been!! No issues upon arriving and certainly no sign of the so-called immigrants’ on the road in. Pitches very spacious and surrounding areas kept clean and tidy. Band system worked well in the toilet and shower block 👍 Great location for exploring Brighton and the surrounding area. Wardens very helpful and chatty 👍👍 Will definitely be returning again Thanks Justine & Kirsty

Lovely!!

Just enjoyed 10 days at the Brighton site and to be honest, some of the recent reviews posted here bear no resemblance to what we experienced. The wardens were extremely pleasant throughout our stay and could not have done more to help us when we had to have a replacement water pump sent to us at the site..... they even delivered it to the pitch for us! The showers and toilets were kept extremely clean throughout our stay and the adherence to Covid regs was exceptional. I would have no hesitation about staying here again, simply because of the team working there..... thanks, and well done !

A real gem of a site

Decided to book this site on route home, so glad I did Positives Idyllic location, very quiet set amongst the trees in individual areas, very clean toilets and showers, brilliant hosts, nothing too much trouble, information pack is best I've seen, helpful guide with lots of useful numbers, public transport details etc, this is definately one of the best sites we have visited and very close to Cambridge attractions Negatives- none regarding the site, but there are light aircraft flying overhead through the day, not really an issue Highly recommend this site you won't regret it

Tranquil site

We stayed for two nights and enjoyed the calm, relaxing vibe of this site. Excellent, well maintained facilities and a good range of pitch locations to chose from. A 10 minute stroll gets you to the local shops and supermarkets and a 15 minute stroll gets you to Brighton Marina where there is a good range of eateries. Alternatively a 45 minute walk gets you to Brighton city center - and Brighton really does rock! The sites own approach road is billiard ball smooth and potholes, mentioned by other reviewers, are on the road before it over which the club has no control. We'll be back!

Good but some issues

Since our last visit, the road up to the site is now bordering on dangerous. Huge potholes may be easy to see in daylight, but the nights are drawing in and there are no street lights. They are so big they could cause serious damage. I'm a bit dumbfounded as to why all the toilets/showers/sink cubicles aren't fully open. I can go to a pub and sit on a table with someone else 6ft away with no physical barrier, I can go to the site office and stand 2 feet away from the person at the desk who is behind an perspex screen, yet I can't shower in a cubicle adjacent to one that is being used by someone else.even though there is a floor to ceiling wall between us. Makes no sense whatsoever. Tile to reopen all the facilities now. Site arrival times have changed to 1pm and this has not been communicated well with the result that there is usually a queue of people waiting to check in at midday. This makes it difficult for people leaving the site - the very thing that this change was designed to avoid. The office is resolutely closed around this time which is fine... Until your key card won't let you out and there is nobody around to help and nobody answers the phone. Office needs to have somebody there all the time.
