Motorhome Unfriendly

Pitches are allocated according to size which can lead to problems with access to some at busy times. Without a car you have to walk an hour to Bridport ...pleasant in the sunshine but weather can't be relied on. Cycling down the only road is dangerous for a mile and half before picking up the cycle track to Bridport and West Bay (5 miles). We tried it twice and it is unpleasant on a very busy road and not for the nervous as traffic builds up behind on steep twisty road. Facilities are OK but the Restaurant has disappeared. So OK for a caravan or panel van but not ideal for larger motorhomes if you want to explore the area....there is a large motorhome friendly car park in West Bay behind the old station.

Be good when its finished

The site is not yet up to typical club standards but I understand that work is underway. we visited in our campervan which we didn't want to use once sited. The walk to Bridport across the fields is around an hour at a reasonable pace. To cycle into Bridport you have to encounter a short stretch of cycling on a fairly busy road. We arrived on a Friday afternoon in early September and found it extremely difficult to get a taxi into town (took about 10 calls) and also getting back in the evening. Very pleasant walk across the fields/country roads into Bridport and a lovely country pub on the way. Not sure the walk would have been so pleasant in wet conditions. Reception were very helpful in giving clear directions. A nice site and we enjoyed our visit.

Beautiful, immaculately kept site in stunning countryside

This is a gem of a site, the pitches are well laid out with gravel hard standing and most have an immaculately kept grass area between them. The views are lovely and the sunsets this time of year are stunning. The tent areas are on the lower site and on grass with fabulous views. Unlike the usual site toilet blocks this site offers rather different individual bathrooms which have allowed them to offer private facilities during this difficult time. The cleanliness couldn’t be faulted. The wardens are such lovely helpful couples who work incredibly hard while still finding time to offer help and advice with a smile. This part of Dorset is simply stunning with wonderful coastal walks and pretty villages and small towns. We would recommend this site unreservedly.

Great addition to the Club portfolio

Recently taken over by the Caravan Club, this site is situated about 2 miles north of Bridport on the A3066. You will only see signs right by the entrance, so it is easy to overshoot and SatNav does not direct you accurately. More visible signs are required urgently. The site offers pitches for caravans, motor homes and tents. It is of a good standard with the usual friendly wardens. Due to the variable pitch sizes you will be allocated to a set pitch. I loved the way the site is broken up by hedging, and some of the tent pitches were in their own private spaces. If you have a motorhome (and there were lots) the serviced pitches are a definite bonus. The site is essentially in three areas. The upper site (to the left of the entrance) is more cramped than a normall CAMC site. The middle site (we were on pitch 81 in this area) is very nice. The lower site is motorhomes and tents. I hope future changes planned don't spoil this. Towards the end of our stay the new wardens opened a small shop - very welcome. Unfortunately ice cream had yet to arrive and gas was in short supply. There are lovely dog walks and it is a straight 2km strl over fields to the Pymore Inn and the Half Moon pubs one way and the Hare & Hounds the other. Do check opening times as we found both the Half Moon and the Hare were closed Mondays & Tuesdays. If you want peaceful beaches, we found Charmouth and Seatown were much quieter than West Bay. However, some local roads are no good for Motorhomes. There is also a good caravan spares and accessories shop, Dorset Leisure, at Charmouth. The site is in the process of transformation to meet CAMC standards. The restaurant and bar has closed and it is likely there will be holiday cottages, a new office and pitch improvements over the next year or two. I hope they don't get rid of the individual washing/toilet/shower cubicles. I especially liked the slate floored ones behind the site office. This arrangement felt much safer in the post Covid19 world than the traditional CAMC blocks.

Beautiful setting

Myself, husband and our dog stayed here for one night. We were allocated pitch number 1, we were not happy with this pitch as it is next to the bins with wasps constantly pestering us, we asked for another pitch and was given a lovely large pitch away from the bins. Very green in and around the site with a beautiful wooded dog area where they can run off lead, not sure if this is an adults only site as didn’t see any children here. We did notice some traffic noise during the night, motorbikes mainly. Bridport and West Bay are very near. Beautiful site, would recommend.

Not your typical Club Site - in some ways better.

We stayed for a week at the end of July, and as with most other sites it was fully booked. Clearly the site is not a carbon copy of the standard design, having started life outside of the Club Site network. This does mean that the pitches are not universal and are specifically selected for you based upon your outfit. For example, our Twin Axle van could not be accommodated on all pitches due to the length; the pitch next to ours was not much bigger than a car park space and was dedicated to motorhomes without awnings. However, the individual bathrooms were to a high standard, the likes of which I had never seen on a Club Site. The woodland walk and dog walk - within the boundary of the site was extensive. The warden's office building was far more architecturally interesting than the Club blueprint design. Being hot for a few days, the odd member thought that installing a TV inside an awning and watching TV with the sound turned-up to the annoyance of other members was quite normal and acceptable. - not a reflection on the site, but on the attitude of the members concerned. We had hoped we could explore the area by bike, but the only exit from the site suitable for a bike is via the main entrance and onto a busy road. Overall it is a lovely, well organised site with friendly wardens and we wouldn't hesitate to return.

Not good value, small pitches and not allowing pitch choice in September ?

It is September and pitch allocation is still occurring on this site, it is not cheap at £34 for 2 adults, we mentioned we had a twin axle but he said “you will be fine “ well we are not we are placed on a corner pitch number 82 with white peg to the road so our van sits all along the edge of a road we just have enough space to put our awning up the other side, no room for chairs, our car has to sit crossways on the pitch, this should be a non awning pitch, because we are on the corner everyone is using the pitch as a cut across, we have dogs they bark if folk come on our pitch, we have paid for 11 nights this is the first, what a dreadful waste of money, there are nice pitches on this site but you are not allowed to choose this has to be the worst spot on the site and as we are long stayers a bit more consideration would have been nice.

Peaceful and Quiet Site with Fantastic Staff

We stayed for 7 nights at this really peaceful and lovely site. Great views and walks from the site. The layout of the site is quite quirky and very different from some of the more uniform sites. The facilities were kept really clean and we particularly enjoyed the 'soaker' showers. Pitching was allocated which saved us having to drive around looking for a suitable pitch. The staff were really friendly and helpful and answered all our questions and you would expect. However a big thank you to David and Dianne who went 'above and beyond' to help us out. As we are relatively new to motorhoming we were a little bit concered about the forecasted high wind and storm during our stay. They came over to our pitch and made sure all was OK and gave really good advice regarding our roll out awning. Really enjoyed the stay. Will be going back to this site.

Really Lovely site!!!!

After reading the reviews I was a little dissappointed to think what was the site going to be like. The approach road from the main road is single track but you can see to the bottom, it was no problem!!! the comments about it feeling cramped, not for me, I found it all fine, it was lovely & quiet and would return with no hesitation, hope the rain stays away next time.

A great first family camping experience

We've just returned from a long weekend and wanted to emphasise what a positive experience we had. We were greeted on arrival by the lovely site team who checked us in and explained everything, including the wristband system for the toilets and showers. Unlike many other reviewers we were staying in a tent and couldn't have been happier with our pitch (96) - largely enclosed on all 4 sides by hedges it felt quite private and sheltered from the wind. It was our first time using our inflatable tent and we unfortunately hadn't done a test run beforehand so didn't realise that our electric pump was insufficient to fully inflate our tent. In desperation I phoned the site staff (it was early evening and the office had closed). Chris arrived within minutes, realised we needed a stirrup pump and went off on a mission to find someone with an inflatable awning/tent. He re-appeared with one several minutes later (and a massive thank you to whoever agreed to loan it!!!) and stayed to help us until the tent was up, even though we had further issues because the connector was a different size. He really was our knight in shining armour! I'm confused by other comments about the noisy gardening machinery - we heard it once, for a short time, but the grounds are immaculate so that is to be expected! It really is a well kept site - the facilities are very clean and overall we found the site to be extremely neat and tidy. The site teams are approachable, friendly and genuinely interested in their guests. From the dog walkers path on site you can access the Brit Valley Circular Walk which was a really enjoyable walk through fields of corn, cows and sheep. It is well located for visits to West Bay, Lyme Regis and Charmouth - we also went down to Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and the Isle of Portland. We left a day early to get home before the storm, but there are more things that we want to see and do in the area and would have no hesitation in booking Bridport Bingham Grange again.
