Great as ever

My only Caravan and Motorhome booking for this year: 2 nights from October 22nd to 24th - but it is one of my favourite sites so I was very glad to be able to get booked on before the end of the season. I was curious as to what to expect given current times: less busy than sometimes but superbly run. Facilities immaculate as ever and a very good system in place for the toilet and shower block - so long as you didn’t have a mental aberration on exit (Me!!) and forget to take your band off the pegs on the way out. Yvonne was very accepting of my profuse apologies! Thank you, Yvonne! These guys work their socks off to keep the site immaculate and Covid-safe making it possible for me and others to have a couple of days away from the relentlessness of the present. Thank you very much from a very grateful Motor-homer!

A beautiful spot to stay.

The site is on the Bolton Abbey estate, however Bolton Abbey is a few miles away. You can walk there or take a short drive to it. Saying that, there are plenty of walks near to the site. The riverside walk is excellent, however you have to follow the one way route in places to comply with Covid rules. A map leaflet wasn’t available, so it was a little more difficult to plan. There are direction map boards in places on the route, but memorising it is a little difficult to do. We did manage it though. Good boots is very useful on most of the walks. There are easy paths as well, but does limit your walk. The site is small and laid out nicely, there are two different levels to it, but we had a pitch which was level for our motorhome. So you may need ramps for some of the other pitches. The staff were helpful and friendly and did their best to make us feel safe. Other visitors at the time were generally abiding by the rules, although on one occasion it didn’t. I had to leave the toilet block when there was more than should be in there, despite a spare holder for my band. Some people didn’t bother, but that was just one occasion, the majority did follow the rules. The toilet facilities are looking a bit tired and could do with upgrading. We enjoyed watching the ducks, pheasants and squirrels from our van which was amusing at times. We have two dogs and there is a short walk on site for them, but there are plenty of places where you could walk them anyway. Dogs do need to be kept on a lead at all times, which isn’t a problem for us. I believe it apples not just to the site, but the whole estate. Fabulous place, I would highly recommend it.

Beautiful little spot. The welcome not great I’m afraid.

This site is in a beautiful spot with wonderful walks along the river and beyond. The site itself is nestled amongst trees with a few more open pitches if that’s what you prefer. We didn’t need to use levellers where we were but from other reviews it would appear that is an issue elsewhere on the site. The signal is non existent and the WiFi can be very iffy. However, the little tea room at the entrance to the site has great WiFi and it also sells nice coffee and cakes etc plus the staff are very friendly there. Sadly that is not the case for the reception lady at the site. Very exasperated with all manner of things. Ok we got it but it was the manner with which it was done. Not very easy to go back later and ask any questions you may have. It wasn’t the best start. Bearing in mind the site is several miles from any shops, it would have been helpful to have been able to buy a few essentials such as bread and milk? The systems in place for COVID were absolutely fine. Toilets etc nice and clean.

Bolton Abbey

Stayed here early October and the site is lovely. Yvonne and Lawrence are a credit to the club, they rang the previous week to say water and electric would be turned off daytime 8th October and the night before they both individually came to talk to us again about the situation. They are sole wardens so with all the other jobs we appreciated their extra help. The facilities are spotless and all Covid regulations are followed to the letter. If you appreciate beautiful scenery and wonderful walks this is the site for you. Thank you Chris and Keith.

Wonderful scenery

First time at this lovely site. We stayed for 6 days and enjoyed every minute. The wardens were very friendly and helpful even though some of the people who arrived while we were there were quite rude. They took it all in their stride and worked very hard to keep the site and facilities clean. We enjoyed watching the squirrels, ducks and other birds who were frequent visitors to the green space opposite our caravan. The walks by the River Wharfe to Barden Tower, to Cavendish Pavilion and the Priory were beautiful. What a fabulous place to have on your doorstep. The weather was mostly kind to us so we managed to walk each day. We'll definitely be back to stay on this little gem of a site.

Lovely site with very good wardens.

This site is in a lovely location, with quick access ( on foot) to Bolton Abbey Estate and the lovely river Wharfe. It is possible to walk along the river to pretty villages like Burnsall and Grassington. The site is very well done to keep it Covid Safe. The wardens Yvonne and Lawrence were fantastic. As sole Wardens they work very hard to maintain the site. They also were extremely helpful. We cannot praise them enough. For those who rely on their mobile phone! Mobile signal is generally only obtained by the dog walk area. Which wasn’t a problem for us. Finally, with trepidation! we managed to clear the arch with ease, with our 3.1 metre high motorhome and side mirrors folded in.

Lovely location, site lacking management

Not impressed. Site in a lovely location, but that's about it. Pitches are very close together and not level, not sure how this impacts on the rules. Whilst we were there we saw at least 4 units move pitches (due to size of the pitch, lack of sun etc). Wristband system for toilets, but the toilets did not appear to be kept clean. Wardens are not the most friendliest. Relief wardens took over and they were really friendly and seemed to keep the place and the toilets a lot cleaner. Lack of recycling, just bins dumped in the motorhome service area with no signage, so no one knew what went where, so everything was dumped in the same bins. Was charged £2 each to go into the Abbey grounds, but you can just walk in, so no idea what the charge was for. Would not stay at this site again. Be aware, on sunny days there is lots of daytripper traffic around the grounds. The arch on the approach is not an issue, just be aware of it

Bolton Abbey..

We stayed at Bolton Abbey for 6 nights,we had researched the area and the access to the campsite as we have a motorhome,we were very surprised when driving through Bolton Abbey village to come across an archway spanning the road which narrowed the width of the road considerably.we would liked to have had some prior knowledge of this as my husbands heart missed a beat ..The campsite is in a lovely location and great walking area, but saying that there is a charge of £2.00 per person to walk in Bolton Abbey wood and grounds..we found both wardens very helpful as my husband had made an error with our booking (missing out one night in the middle of our stay..) but this was soon sorted out which he was very grateful for..The campsite was very clean and tidy and the facilities were extremely clean and the band system in place worked reasonably well as along as you remembered your band..when we arrived we had a considerable wait to book in but it was unfortunate that so many people arrived at the same time but the wardens dealt with everyone quickly and effectively ..

Excellent Site

Prettiest site on the network for me The walks are amazing with wildlife in abundance, we watched a heron fishing in the river wharfs most evenings and also saw dippers, plenty of rabbits and squirrels We also bumped into a dear in the woods not far from the site Great pub in Appletreewick called the Craven arms Only issue we had was my booking form stated 12.00 arrival and we arrived at about 12.15 along with plenty of others -when it’s apparently 13.00 arrival - we all got told off by both the warden outside and then repeated by his other half in the office, who couldn’t believe the club had sent out booking confirmations saying 12.0 arrival - will know for next time Will definitely return
