Great first stay

This was our first time at a CAMC site and so we chose one close to home as we wanted to test out our 28 year old camper van. We were very impressed with the site, it was very clean and tidy in a lovely woodland setting. Everything worked smoothly and the site was right next to an entrance to the Bolton Abbey estate. It was lovely and quiet with well spaced pitches in the lower part of the site where we stayed. The shared facilities were kept clean and the wardens were always around the site. We found our fellow campers friendly and helpful and we'll definitely be heading back to the site

Lives up to previous reviews

Excellent well managed site. Wardens particularly helpful and worked non-stop around the site, the Covid guidelines were well explained and also signposted at key points. It was quiet, peaceful and great for access to the main R.Wharfe and Abbey walks, but far enough away from the busier car parks etc. I fully agree with the work done to keep the CAMC locations open during Covid but one issue, not just here but probably across all sites, Is the max 2 persons in the shower/loo blocks. If 2 are in for a shower then quite frankly it is an uncomfortable wait for access to a toilet and not all members have setups with a built-in loo. The band system is great but maybe a board that has 2 hooks for ‘showers‘ and a third below for ‘loo only’ would work. The set up at this site can facilitate it and keep social distances. Overall a lovely location for a short break.

Excellent site

Stayed here for 2 nights in July. The site is quite small and intimate, lots of greenery, squirrels and birds. Facilities clean and looked after. The location is great as you are within Strid Wood and can reach the river walk within 5 minutes which is beautiful and well looked after by the Estate. We walked to Bolton Abbey itself and had some lunch at The Tea Cottage which has great views over the Abbey and amazing food. It is a very peaceful site, although a bit remote from pubs/shops so make sure you have stocked up on everything. Would definitely return!

What a lovely setting!

In a peaceful area adjacent to Strid Woods, with numerous walking trails through, or down to the River Wharfe. Gorgeous walks alongside the river to either Barden Bridge or to Bolton Priory. Lawrence and Yvonne keep the site impeccably clean and tidy. Always at hand with, a friendly smile, willingness to help, to make sure you enjoy your stay as much as possible. A special place.

Just returned from a one night booking at Bolton Abbey. We really enjoyed the site and will certainly make a return visit and will stay longer next time. The restrictions worked very well and appreciated the work done by the wardens. The only comment we found the route making on the way from the site to the Stridd very confusing and the signage was very confusing. We also felt the Estate charging £2,per person to enter the estate was very mean as it has always been free.

End of lockdown treat...

We chose this site to visit as a one night stay on July 4th to celebrate the first time we could venture off in our motorhome since lockdown started on March 20th. Having missed 5 getaways we had booked we were really looking forward to getting back on the road and having a night away. We were not disappointed - This is an area we know very well but always find something new to do and this time it was buying a ready made coffee from the cafe in Strid Wood car park (at the entrance to the site. We had forgotten coffee and marmalade and were able to buy both at the shop in the cafe - such a lovely treat - one family were sat outside having breakfast - lovely. The site itself was well prepared for welcoming everyone back - from the collection of the wrist bands to handing them back - all had been well-thought-out and ran smoothly. This is always a peaceful site, but the calm and freshness seemed even more poignant during our visit. Wonderful to get back to it. Thank you MCC.

Awesome!

Booked for a few days and stayed for THIRTEEN! First two weeks of October. I could rumble on for hours about the fantastic location, the peace and quiet, the fantastic couple that run it like clockwork, sitting outside our van watching Red Kites circle over head and the deer in the woods and the Kingfisher we saw daily down at the river but I won’t-just go and explore for yourselves.

Gem of a site

We managed to book a weekend mid october and despite arriving late on Friday in pouring rain we had a warm welcome from the staff and the site is beautiful and maintained to a high standard. Please remember to take your aerial extension lead as there is no TV signal and mobiles phones don't have a signal either - but this adds to the relaxing feel of the site. Will return again

Beautiful setting.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of October with the benefit of the autumn leaves starting to change colour making the site most attractive. Unfortunately the weather was poor on 2 of the days but glorious on the other so we saw it in its various moods. The walk along the River Wharfe to The Strid and beyond Returning via the opposite bank, is a must and is relatively easy. Site staff were very Friendly and helpful and the facilities were of the Club’s usual high standard. TV reception is very poor without connection to the electricity bollards, but with that, okay. We encountered the recurring problem of speeding cars with two particular culprits taking no notice of the limit at all throughout their stay, even whilst towing! One ‘idiot’ had a young child with him. What is the matter with these people? One word of caution, the ancient stone archway at Bolton Abbey village en-route to the site needs particular care especially for owners of 8’ wide caravans and larger motor homes, as there is a mere 7” of spare room on either side assuming you position yourself centrally through the archway. Mention of this is made within the direction instructions in the Members Handbook and on the web site but in my view it should be given greater prominence to ensure members do not get caught out. We enjoyed our stay and will most probably return.
