Gem of a site

We managed to book a weekend mid october and despite arriving late on Friday in pouring rain we had a warm welcome from the staff and the site is beautiful and maintained to a high standard. Please remember to take your aerial extension lead as there is no TV signal and mobiles phones don't have a signal either - but this adds to the relaxing feel of the site. Will return again

Beautiful setting.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of October with the benefit of the autumn leaves starting to change colour making the site most attractive. Unfortunately the weather was poor on 2 of the days but glorious on the other so we saw it in its various moods. The walk along the River Wharfe to The Strid and beyond Returning via the opposite bank, is a must and is relatively easy. Site staff were very Friendly and helpful and the facilities were of the Club’s usual high standard. TV reception is very poor without connection to the electricity bollards, but with that, okay. We encountered the recurring problem of speeding cars with two particular culprits taking no notice of the limit at all throughout their stay, even whilst towing! One ‘idiot’ had a young child with him. What is the matter with these people? One word of caution, the ancient stone archway at Bolton Abbey village en-route to the site needs particular care especially for owners of 8’ wide caravans and larger motor homes, as there is a mere 7” of spare room on either side assuming you position yourself centrally through the archway. Mention of this is made within the direction instructions in the Members Handbook and on the web site but in my view it should be given greater prominence to ensure members do not get caught out. We enjoyed our stay and will most probably return.

Very poor signage of site entrance

Despite my sat nav being a Caravan Club one it did not recognise the site and the postcode wanted to send me down narrow roads. I drove past the site twice as the signage was unable to be read from the road. I only found the site as I was going to pull in and ask for directions at the cafe and spotted caravan club sign. Regrettably this was the start of a disappointing stay, I arrived in lovely autumn weather after a long drive and decided to wait for next day to explore. Unfortunately torrential rain started early evening and into the whole of the next day. Due to no radio signal on site or mobile signal allied with road closures due to cycle race I decided to cut trip short and return home a day early. Probably a good site for walking in reasonable weather but no good for single traveller in poor weather due to lack of anything to listen to or do.

Great for dogs

This is a small site in a great location. Plenty of walking opportunities straight from the site. It is worth noting that dogs are not permitted on Barden Moor or Fell, but there are plentiful other walks and fells to explore. The site is very well kept. Some pitches are sloping so be prepared for this. Keelham Farm Shop near Skipton is definitely worth a visit for delicious local produce

Small quiet site in a great location.

Super staff and very good facilities. Lovely location to visit the historical monuments nearby, and to walk this part of the Dales Way and the lovely Moorland either side of the river valley. The walk to Simon's seat via The Strid is particularly beautiful. Bus stop outside the site is good for travelling to Grassington or Ilkley, also Skipton. No shops or evening facilities within walking distance, except for the tea shop near the site entrance.

Great site

Second time we've visited this site and I can't recomend this site highley enough. It's a clean and well kept with beautiful surounding. There's a great walk from the site that follows the river wharf down to the Abbey and back up the other side is great for both adults and kids alike. And the staff are second to none, happy, smile and can't do enough to help, great site, great staff. Spot on.

A lovely quiet site

This was my first stay at this site and I hope it won’t be my last. I’d arrived from a busy (not C&MC) site at Scarborough, and what a lovely change it was. I was immediately made to feel welcome on arrival and also on the couple of occasions I went back to reception to use the shop. The location is excellent in woodlands and with no noise from the road passing the site, and I had an excellent ride out on my bike to Burnsall, Appletreewick and Skipton. There are also very good walks in the area.i hope to return before too long.

Beautiful site in a beautiful area

We stayed here for 4 nights recently. As one of the other reviewers said I don’t want to say too many good things as it may then get completely booked up! Firstly finding the site is a bit tricky as you go past Bolton abbey thinking the site will be just around the corner but it’s not! Keep driving and it is sign posted. The archway that a few reviewers have mentioned isn’t too much of an issue. We’ve got a swift sprite major 6td and we fitted through ok. On arrival we received a friendly greeting. The site is small so choosing a pitch is straightforward. The pitches were fairly flat and easy to pitch up on. We had a non awning pitch which didn’t give us very much room to set up table and chairs but we created a little private area behind the car. The facilities were clean and the showers were decent. Some reviewers mentioned that there were only 4 showers which is correct but we never had a problem having one. Everyone on site was so helpful and friendly. We are quite new to caravanning so any advice is always appreciated. We love the community spirit you get on the sites and I think so far this has been our favourite. Our little boy made lots of friends while we were there and the site felt safe for him to play near the caravan although there is no play area. There is an information hut with tourist leaflets in which was great. We got a voucher for bogof for the Bolton Abbey steam railway. We loved this site and would love to come back again. Thanks to the wardens who really look after the site to a high standard.

Very Good Site in an excellent location

The site would have scored a 5 but for the fact that the amenities block was a bit tired with a few plumbing issues. However the block was kept immaculately clean and well looked after by the wardens which I'm sure could have been a bit challenging at times. The wardens were excellent and nothing was too much trouble for them . The site was in an excellent location and I wish we had booked for a longer stay. We will definately return.

Exploring the Wharfe

Stayed here 21-23 June 2019, £25 pound per night. Quite a swish site, hence the price, ablution block with showers. Also shop (of sorts). Two types of pitch, marked by coloured pegs, white “with awning” pitches and blue “without awning” pitches. We had booked a white pitch, but this categorisation is actually for caravans where the assumption is that a car will be parked next to the caravan, if you are in a motorhome you will fit onto a “without awning” pitch and still have room for an awning. We chose a spec in the far corner, number 15; there is a Montisouri school at the back of the camp site, so not a good spot on a school day! To hook up to the electricity you have to twist the plug after plugging it in; quite stiff. Remember to go back to the desk to tell them which pitch you have chosen so you can pickup your gate pass. on arrival we went for a walk up the River Wharfe to the medieval fortified Bardon tower. You walk along the south bank of the river and then over a bridge which is actually an aqueduct with water running inside the walls, along the north bank, over Bardon Bridge to the tower. Last bit is road walking, over a couple of styles to get to the tower. It’s an old hunting lodge from the 16th century. Walked back along the south bank of the Wharf. Next day we did a long walk down and up the Wharf, 6 hours. Walked along the south bank and crossed to the north, over the wooden bridge, at the Cavendish PavilionTeam Rooms (there are toilets). This is where the main Bolton Abbey car Park is, so lot of people. Followed the bank of the river till the stepping stones to Bolton Priory. Tour of the ruins and then down to the river for picnic and a sit about; then pressed on to the Devonshire Arms hotel for a cream tea. This is a rambling spa hotel, expensive, £300 bed and breakfast per night! The tea rooms are next to reception, cream tea cheapest thing on the menu at £8 a head, had one with traditional scones and one with Parkin; well worth it. We then headed back along the north bank of the Wharf, crossing over at the aqueduct to get back to the camp site. Home the next fay, fantastic weekend.
