Excellent Site, Lovely Location, Great Wardens

This was our First caravan club site since we bought our caravan five years ago, as they are not flexible for weekend stays whilst working. However now we are retired we chose this site to visit the Yorkshire dales and interesting places such as Howarth. We were warmly welcomed by Gary and his wife who explained the pitches and the facilities and also assisted with us finding a sunny spot as the site has a lot of trees, which do create a lot of shade. The whole site is lovely and very well cared for and maintained in fact I should not praise it too much as it is already very popular and gets very busy especially at weekends. Fortunately our nine night visit did not have a children issue and the toilets were immaculate. We will return as loved the place, site and location. Thank you to wardens for helping us enjoy our first stay on a club site.

Excellent

Just returned from a week at this site (our fifth visit), which says it all. We love the site and the location. Weather was excellent too.  The wardens were as always very friendly and healthy. They work extremely hard on a busy site, particularly as there are only the two of them. The facilities are always cleaned to a high standard but, sadly some of the people staying there do not respect this and leave the toilets in a pretty poor state.  In comparison to some of the more modern sites with upgraded facilities you could argue that the toilet block is tired and need of a makeover. However, this not a reflection of how well the site is run by the wardens.  We will definitely be back again.

Lovely site but....

The site is in a beautiful area with great opportunities for walking and general site seeing. It wasn't quiet during half term week which we didn't expect, however there appeared to be no attempt to curb the behaviour of children riding bicycles and scooters dangerously around the site. It would be nice to see wardens around the site occasionally other than emptying bins and mowing! The trees around the site are getting so large that unless the sun is shining much of the site is gloomy, when it is shining it is difficult to get somewhere to actually sit in the sun ! The trees were also affecting the quality of WiFi reception. We did not get the advertised channels when plugging into the TV system, not even BBC 2 or Channels 4 or 5. Also I do think it's time that the phone signal issue was sorted. There is a good signal down the road at the Priory, it is not really satisfactory that there is no signal on site.

A beautiful site great for walkers

Fantastic site in the grounds of Bolton Abbey Estate. We walked for miles along the river right up to the stepping stones and Abbey fantastic place for a picnic.  The views are stunning cant fault this site at all.  Definitely will be returning.

Good Dog Walking

We stayed for 3 nights at Bolton Abbey and will never be staying again. The only positive thing I can say is that the site is very well located for dog walking. If you want peace and quiet don't go during a school holiday as you will have to watch children chasing ducks and zooming round the site on bikes / scooters with no concept that there are cars moving around and no signs of the wardens doing anything about it - in fact the only time I saw the warden was when he was zooming about the site at 8am on his little truck emptying bins, (why this couldn't be done between 11am and 1pm when nobody will be arriving / departing due to the very strict rules I'm not sure.) Many of the pitches (which seem small - you can watch your neighbours eating their breakfast) are in the shade. If you manage to get a pitch that gets a good bit of sun the chances are you will be close to the toilet block which has an extractor fan running 24 hours a day. The toilet block has an odour and was not as clean as Caravan Club sites usually are, and the washing up area was oddly designed. We have always found Caravan Club sites of very high standards with good layouts and facilities but this site feels like they are trying to get as many pitches as possible in to a small space.

Silence is golden

The site is very quiet and the wardens very helpful telephone signals not good and television signal none existent but this is a good point as its a get away holiday no one to disturb you, site location to Bolton Abbey and surrounding area's was good very close to all the walks,a car is definitely needed but not compulsory as there are local busses all in all a good place to visit.

Peaceful site

A very peaceful and we'll run site with the most spectacular dawn chorus. Excellent walks from the site, and beautiful scenery. Site shop has the basics but for other shopping, without a car, this could prove a little difficult as there are no shops in the immediate locality. Very welcoming reception and spotlessly clean.

Poor arrival procedures

We arrived two minutes before 1300 to find five outfits in front of us. I had two options, either to partially  block the  B 6160 or to block the exit from the public car park onto the shared access road. I chose the latter as continuing on the B6160 was not an option given it is a narrow twisted road with little or no  options to turn an 8metre van on a 4.5 metre car. Fortunately nobody sought exit from the car park during the 10 minutes I blocked the exit. This cannot be a one off event and I think it behoves  the warden to exercise the duty of care owed to club members and the public by recognising the potential for conflict and accident  caused by failing to  clear the log jam albeit prior to the hallowed time of 1300. The site particulars confirm the problems with limited access . While rules are there for good reason the exercise of judgement when these rules  create a "reasonably foreseeable " hazard or damage can also be reasonably expected . Perhaps the sign in the reception window after five which said " closed , warden off duty"  indicates a particular mind set. Other than this the site is much as one would expect from a club site , facilities clean, site tidy.  While the area is very pleasant and the walking around the site first class I don't think we'll be returning .

Beautiful location

Tranquil small site within minutes of beautiful walks along the river wharf.  Walk for 40 mins to the Abbey and cafe before that or the other way for a long as you like. I walked to Grassington and got the 74 bus back with the dog which took about 3 hours but with incredible views along the way. I need to come back and explore more!

Potential fab site

Coming from New England Bay site to Bolton Abbey was a bit of a Shock, Bolton Abbey is set in a beautiful location with stunning walks but the site felt cramped with gravel pitches and a view into a caravan from every direction, felt more like being sited on a big Carpark which was dissapointing   pity as the walks are amazing
