Lovely site, clean and warm shower block. Very friendly, helpful wardens. Good location and nicely kept site. We were near the roadside of the site, which was a little noisy early Monday morning but we could've moved if we'd have wanted to, which we didn't. Highly recommend this location
Weekend stay in March
Weekend break taken purely to trial our new van. Facilities as expected from any CC site; clean, recently modernized and warm. Really friendly and helpful wardens. Booking in a pleasant experience, and given some great help and advice concerning TV ariel, including the purchase of a new TV hookup lead, much better quality than the one it replaced, and cheaper.
This is a tiered site set into a hillside, we were on a service pitch. Perhaps one of the most private pitches we've had on a CC site. Perfectly level.
I imagine in later spring through to late autumn the site looks beautiful, (ie when all the trees are in leaf), but at this time of year it did feel a little bleak. The farmer located next door livened the country air somewhat with his weekend of muck spreading. I don't mind the occasional bit of, country air, but this was full on, not the sites fault though.
Not a great deal to keep the daughter entertained, (10). I did ask her what to put in the review, and she wasn't totally negative - the little park located on the top tier was good for younger children she stated, but the lack of space for ball games and the (rightful IMO) ban on bikes and scooters
made this site a little dull for her.
Popped into Leek on Saturday, great street market with some fantastic local food stalls. And a pub that shows football, (let the DD and OH view the market whilst I sampled the local ale and watched the end of a match). Small Asda handy from the site, but not really walkable.
To summarise, helpful and friendly wardens, easy access and spacious fairly private pitches.
Great Welcome
We've just returned from our first outing of the season and with the glorious weather sneaked a full seven nights at this wonderful site. With the warm, friendly, helpful and welcoming wardens we soon felt 'at home'. The toilet blocks were in excellent and immaculately clean condition. The pitches well spaced on level hardstandings. TV reception is not too good but we did not let that spoil our stay. The grounds are well kept and the friendly 'Chester', the spaniel supervised all the maintenance work with keen attention to detail and an ever wagging tail!!
There is plenty to interest everyone in and around Leek and Buxton with the Roaches and reservoirs providing splendid views and varied bird life and other wild life to watch. The Three Horse Shoes Inn/Restaurant/Hotel and Spa is but a short walk from the site entrance with excellent food and drink.
This site is highly recommended and a return visit a must. Very well done CC and Wardens.
Our stay in March 2015
Lovely site and is well placed for visiting some Nation Trust properties in Staffordshire. Nice large hardstanding pitches ideal for this time of year. Very friendly, helpful wardens and immaculate shower blocks. The shower blocks only have two showers so your best not trying to attempt a shower early morning. We only have two negatives which are poor signal for TV and electric cut out on fridge when there was a surge of electricity being used. Leek a lovely small town with markets Wednesday and Saturday.
Great Views
Just returned from our short break here, enjoyed it immensely. The view of the Roaches is great and the surrounding area is beautiful. Leek is a lovely small town with plenty of tea rooms etc. Buxton is well worth a visit. The National Trust properties of Lyme Park, Little Moreton Hall and Bidulph Grange are all only a short drive away.
The site itself is well maintained, clean and friendly. The staff are friendly and welcoming. We hope to return soon. The only negative is that the T.V. reception is poor, but if you want watch TV stay at home.
Lovely site
We called here for the first time on our way to North Wales. What a gem. Immaculate facilities, newspaper deliveries and a super view.
Great welcome
Only our second time at this site, it's only about 25 miles from our home and like so many we always think we have to travel miles. The site had only been open for one day and what a great welcome from the wardens. The pitches are terraced so we went away from the road, there can be some road noise but this didn't bother us. As we are in a motorhome it was nice to have public transport only a few minutes walk away.
Second time lucky
This was our second attempt to get out this year, having had to cancel a trip to Castleton due to the snow a few weeks ago, we had a great welcome here, this always sets you up for a nice experience, we stayed Thursday 5th - Sunday 8th March and every thing was perfect, even the weather.
Early season visit
Our first visit to this site on its first week of the season. Wardens were really helpful and the site and facilities were in first class condition. We were there mid week when the site was very quiet and through the weekend when it was full yet it kept a spacious feeling. An excellent location for walking.
We were on one of the terrace levels but noticed that the lower pitches next to the A53 did suffer from traffic noise which started at 6am with quarry wagons etc. The site also had a resident blackbird which was determined to attack its reflection in all the ajoining car wing mirrors leaving a right droppings mess!
Our first outing of the year!!!!
Well, we could not have chosen better for our first outing.
A very warm welcome from the lovely wardens and the fabulous `chester`, the resident dog, (gorgeous, especially when you see him travelling round on the tractor with `dad`!!
).
We arrived on Wednesday and got the pick of the pitches as it was so early in the season, however, don`t be fooled, by Friday the site was filling up and Saturday full !!
the amenities on site are good and the toilet blocks/showers immaculate.
the site itself is so handy for visiting local attractions. we were disappointed that the local steam railway was not yet open as we planned to take our dog with us for the day out, however we had a fabulous few hours at Tittesworth reservoir, definitely worth the short trip.
all in all we had a fabulous 4 days away and would thoroughly recommend this site. Beautifully kept and I would love to go back when the weather gets warmer.
Thank you and well done, see you soon `Chester` !!!
