Just back from another great stay at Blackshaw Moor. The wardens obviously care about the site and keep it immaculate and to a high standard and are very hardworking lead by Anthony and Sheila who have a terrific sense of humour. This is their last season at Blackshaw Moor and they are moving on to the Firs. The Firs gain will be Blackshaw Moors loss
Tend to use CL's in the main but visited this site for the location and the mid-week discount. Great for walking and cycling. Wardens were hard working, visible out on the site every day. Helpful and there if needed but not intrusive. Enjoyed our stay thank you and happy to return in the future.
Well, what can we say that hasn’t already been said about these wonderful wardens. Probably the friendliest site we’ve ever visited - and we’ve been motor homing now for 14 years ! Nothing was to much trouble for this cheery team and they keep the site immaculate.
There is plenty of walking to be done in this area, particularly ‘The Roaches’ and surrounding area. Or more gentle walking can be found around the two local reservoirs and along the Caldon Canal. And a trip on the ‘Churnet Valley Steam Railway’ is a must with tea at ‘Hetty’s’ Froghall Wharf - if time permits. All in all, a lovely site with lovely wardens - and we will be back !
This was the first time we'd visited and were greatly impressed by the friendliness and enthusiasm of the warden. It is ideally located for a trip into Leek where parking was easiest as part of a visit to one of the supermarkets.
A drive to Tittesworth Lake is a must though it is easily accessible by walking from the site. Avoid Rudyard Lake as the only parking was up a ramp to the railway car park which meant a very sharp turn not easily made with a motorhome. The railway itself might have been of interest but, sadly, it only seems to operate ar weekends and school holidays (just when I avoid motorhome trips away!)
The site has some immediate post-WW2 history as a camp for Polish families. Whilst I appreciated the pictures and text around the site, I would have like more information as there appear to have been several camps in the area.
Overall, a lovely site, especially having small bays and a brilliant dog walk.
Will definitely return.

Can only repeat what’s already been said. This site is colourful and tidy, the wardens are pleasant, the facilities warm and spotlessly clean. The location appealed to us as it was a quiet part of the Peak District with easy access to the popular areas.
The wardens are to be commended for the care they take of the site, making it a pleasure to visit.
Had a really good 10 nights on this site, pitched up by the play area, lovely clean facilities & friendly wardens. The site is a short drive to Alton Towers for the teenagers. Never been to the Peak District before but there is lots to so in the area. Pooleys cavern was good monrning out. Would recommend the Lazy Trout for Sunday lunch (but book a table). Would have liked to done more walking in the area (you can see the Roaches from the site) but sadly due to moorland fires the area was shut so will have to go back.
We have bought our first caravan and this being our first site we have stayed at it was not a disappointment. Having arrived late nearly as the site barriers were closing for the night we did ring two or three times to let the lovely lady know roughly the time of our arrival who did not find this a problem but just to keep her informed. On arrival we was greeted by the lovely lady who made us feel very welcome and directed us to our pitch and told us where all amenities were accompanied by a map of the site. The following morning we found we had forgot the milk so headed down to the shop to see what time this opened whilst looking at the times the lady came and asked if everything was ok to which we mentioned we had forgot milk at which time she proceeded to get her keys out and open the shop for us. I know this was our first time but this lady went out of her way to help. The site was lovely, quiet and very very clean including the toilet and shower block. Will definitely be visiting this site again.
Back to vanning after long gap..stuck a literal pin in a virtual map and it came out Blackshaw moor! So off we went! We weren't sure if we would even get back into it...and equally unsure how the dogs would like it. However Im sure you'll be thrilled to know that we all loved it! I can't imagine why anyone would think the staff were unfriendly! There's always two sides to a story and sadly the other side can't comment (shame really!). We had no comments about our dogs...I've checked the reviews and it wasn't us!!....And we didn't upset anyone...at least nobody has left a story yet! We're now hooked again...can't wait for next outing! See you all around soon!
