Absolutely Fantastic

We have just returned after 7 nights, and it's been wonderful! Location is perfect in the heart of the New Forest. Site kept neat and tidy, facilities were always spotlessly clean. Very friendly and helpful wardens! Can't wait to go back :)

Nostalgic Triip

Just returned from this site after a week.  It has been about 35 years since I was on this site and returned this week with my Mum who is now in her 80s.  The wardens were great and ensured we got a pitch near the facilities as Mum has difficulty walking these days. But the facilities themselves are definitely dated and not the usually CC standard having said that they are clean and tidy.  It is still a wonderful site and great location.  Would definitely go back with my husband and dogs as this is great for dog walking and many pubs in the village dog friendly.  Mum enjoyed herself too so maybe next year.  Brought back lots of memories.

Great site, shhh let's keep it as a hidden gem

We've just got home from our first visit to Black Knowl after a fab 3 days, and with another 7 booked for August. Now here's the thing, this site is rural, really rural but only a stones throw outside Brockenhurst and there's no passing traffic other than longhorn cattle and New Forest ponies who will keep younger family member engaged for ages. We nearly didn't find Black Knowl and although this sounds mean I hope others don't find it because its a gem of a place.  Others have commented on the washrooms but they are fine (albeit not quite to the usual CC standard) and the wardens keep it all very clean and tidy and are very helpful - without Christine's help we would have gotten very lost!

A favourite site but showing its age

It is my favourite site, in the heart of the forest and only a half hour walk across the Forest from Brockenhurst. Words of advice:- • take insect repellent, as the midges like this site too • be prepared to use your on board facilities at busy times or be prepared to queue to use the site facilities. Grass pitches are well maintained although some of the hard standing pitches look a little tired. Although comparatively quiet in the week, I think all pitches were taken by the late May Bank Holiday weekend and it became difficult not to look into other caravans when sitting outside. When alighting from the car from passenger side I almost stood on the toes of a camping neighbour who was in a deck chair outside of her awning. The shower equipment and number of showers seem inadequate, so only two stars for facilities. With a fee of £26 a night over the Bank Holiday, I expected a little better. Despite its age, I really like the circular main shower block design. Each heated cubicle has its own outside door and contains a shower, toilet and wash basin. These cubicles are for all gender use. On this occasion, the shower equipment was a bit temperamental as were some of the locks to the cubicles. There are additional showers in another block but only three for women and three for men. The arrival of families during the half term break meant parents needed to shower multiple small children. This time consuming business, put a further strain on facilities and led to queues. Communal facilities were spotlessly clean; five star standard from that point of view. Wardens were always in evidence working hard and were helpful and cheerful at each point of contact.

Toilet block needs refurbishment/replacement

Just returned from a weekend break here. Still one of our favourite sites in the network, but despite the wardens hard work the toilet blocks are now looking very tired with broken tiles, shower heads that slip down on the risers and missing door locks amongst the list. If a toilet block needs a complete refurbishment or replacement then this one must be at the top of the list.

Peace in the forest

Spent a week in May this year. This was our third visit with little change. Wardens continue to maintain the site to a high standard. Toilets/washing facilities getting tired and the road to the site had some deep potholes however most of these had been filled in while we were there. Continues to be a great place for a relaxing holiday.

Excellent site and great location

We returned from Black Knowl on the 08th May. It was our 1st visit and we'd certainly return. Great location for exploring the New Forest and surrounding south coast, also very easy to find and accessible in a large MH. Walks/cycle routes on your doorstep and Brockenhurst Village is only 30/40 mins walk away. Handy to have a train station in Brockenhurst, so gave us lots of options if we didn't fancy driving our large MH around the narrow roads. On site the pitches were a good size, really well kept site and wardens were so helpful. Was a little concerned before we went about the shower facilities after reading the comments - but we had no complaints. Yes the facilities were dated, but they were clean, warm & the 2 of us had a shower a day in different cubicles and didn't experience a lack of water pressure & the water was hot on all occasions (maybe we just got lucky, but no complaints here)! Would highly recommend scones @ Rosie Lea's in Brockenhurst and if you want a treat, dinner at The Snakecatcher - wow!

Lovely site, please do something about the showers!

We stayed at the Black Knowl site over the May bank holiday weekend. The site is in a wonderful rural location in the heart of the New Forest with excellent walking and cycling on the doorstep. The Wardens are helpful and the site is well maintained and clean with lots of space between pitches. The real let down is the shower block which is awful, especially when you are paying what is a not inconsiderable amount per night. The showers were never hot and lacked any power, a dribble being perhaps a more accurate description. We have always looked forward to club site showers as they are usually decent and piping hot, just what you need after a day of walking in the rain, but these were a real let down and the cubicles are cold and dated. I have long hair and the flow was too weak to rinse all the soap out (and the water was only lukewarm at best). Location wise, Brockenhurst is about 15/20 minutes away if you are cycling and about a 40/50 minute walk. You will need to cycle on the main road into Brockenhurst and I wasn't that comfortable with our young daughter cycling this stretch as some of the car drivers were complete lunatics but this is no reflection on the site. There are no play facilities for children but with the heath on your doorstep, covered with ponies and wildlife, this should not a problem.
