Somewhat Disappointed.

The site is in a beautiful location. The wardens were friendly and helpful. The biggest let down was the standard of toilets and showers. Money needs to be spent in totally rebuilding the toilet block. These were just not up to Caravan Club standards. We visited the Centenerary Site the cleanliness and layout of the site was 100% better yet the cost per pitch was much the same. Would we return again? Maybe not.

Facilities need major update

We recently stayed at Black Knowl, fantastic well maintained pitches plenty of cycle routes staight from site, nice village close by but all this is let down by the abysmal toilet and shower facilities, they  are the worst we have ever encountered at a club site and we have stayed at a lot. We had just come from Centenary Site in New Forrest which is superb.  Come on Caravan club, take charge and knock those facilties down and build a new block which would make Black Knoll a fantastic site.

My Honest Review.

We have just returned from a week on this site and without passing opinion on what other's feel the site compares to at home or abroad, or on whether or not people should use their van bathroom or the public washrooms (That is their own business...quite literally!) We would like to give our opinion of how we found the site for the benefit of others to read and make their own mind up. So here goes: First the good: The site is in the middle of the most stunning area of natural beauty and the lovely New Forest is instantly very accessible by foot, bike, car or bus. The site was very quiet even when full.    There is plenty for young families to do in good or bad weather nearby. The village of Brockenhurst is easily accessible and the amenities there are good i.e. nice bakers, chemist, butchers, great fish & chips! The site wardens are very friendly and helpful and the grassed areas of the site are well maintained, as were the lovely wild flower areas. Now the not so good: Say what you like, the toilet block needs ripping out- yes it's ok, and no it's definitely not up to other club site standards - there is a poster up urging guests to complain to the club put it that way!! I personally did not like showering with the mould in between cracked tiles all around me - and be prepared to take your own soap and towel into the privacy unisex shower / sink / toilet cubicles as it is not provided. Also although the toilets were cleaned everyday they still looked quite dirty probably due to the high volume of use on a full site that week - sorry if people do not like this review but just simply saying what we saw, it was not a "deal breaker" for us, but nor was it that pleasant if you are a person who prefers to use the site facilities!!  Also some of the hard standing areas need re-graveling as it is down to bare rubble in parts.

Constructive criticism

It should be self-evident but some of us have criticised the facilities block because it is not up to the usual high CC standard. Apologies if this was difficult for Roberts32 to understand.

WHY DO YOU MOAN ABOUT THE LOOS

I have used this site and i am just about to go back there, what is the matter with you lot of moaners,, like me you have spent thousands on a  caravan or like me a motorhome, mine has a power shower..hot water for washing in a nice warm bathroom, wash the dishes in a nice warm area, yet here you are walking to the block first thing in the morning in the snow or rain and freezing cold..why dont you use your own,,two reasons i bet,,too lazy to clean them after you have used them and you have paid in the pitch fee to use the site loos,  get a life will you, a lot of you must not go overseas as if you did you would have something to moan about,  CC sites are like a palace

Great site in great location but in need of new facilities

This is a fabulous site in a brilliant location. So peaceful, even when full. Plenty of scope for walkers and cyclists and interesting places to visit using plentiful public transport. Only downside is the facilities which are very worn & dated. The wardens work very hard and diligently to keep them as clean as humanly possible but they are in urgent need of upgrading (the facilities NOT the wardens!) I understand that the Club has only owned the site for 6 months so perhaps it is in hand but it can't happen too soon. When it does, this site will be perfection.

Dog HEAVEN. Visited 28/06/15

My first visit and it was wonderful. Site was full but you didn't feel as if you were on top of each other. Had grass pitch as no hard standings left but as ground was rock solid it wasn't a problem. Wardens were wonderful and fell in love with my dog Rory! Great place for dogs with lots of different walks on the doorstep. Good walk into Brockenhurst along a gravel path so even when wet this would be a good route as well as the road. Nice little town with a Tesco Express, butchers & a few other shops, tea rooms and a couple of pubs. Yes, the toilet facilities are in need of refurbishment but as other reviewers have said they are kept very clean and even with site full you didn't have to wait long to get access to a shower in the "rush hour". Will I come back? ABSOLUTELY!

Absolutely Fantastic

We have just returned after 7 nights, and it's been wonderful! Location is perfect in the heart of the New Forest. Site kept neat and tidy, facilities were always spotlessly clean. Very friendly and helpful wardens! Can't wait to go back :)

Nostalgic Triip

Just returned from this site after a week.  It has been about 35 years since I was on this site and returned this week with my Mum who is now in her 80s.  The wardens were great and ensured we got a pitch near the facilities as Mum has difficulty walking these days. But the facilities themselves are definitely dated and not the usually CC standard having said that they are clean and tidy.  It is still a wonderful site and great location.  Would definitely go back with my husband and dogs as this is great for dog walking and many pubs in the village dog friendly.  Mum enjoyed herself too so maybe next year.  Brought back lots of memories.

Great site, shhh let's keep it as a hidden gem

We've just got home from our first visit to Black Knowl after a fab 3 days, and with another 7 booked for August. Now here's the thing, this site is rural, really rural but only a stones throw outside Brockenhurst and there's no passing traffic other than longhorn cattle and New Forest ponies who will keep younger family member engaged for ages. We nearly didn't find Black Knowl and although this sounds mean I hope others don't find it because its a gem of a place.  Others have commented on the washrooms but they are fine (albeit not quite to the usual CC standard) and the wardens keep it all very clean and tidy and are very helpful - without Christine's help we would have gotten very lost!
