First time at Black Knowl

Having tried on previous occasions to book this site We finally managed this year but oh what a disappointment. Although we were met by a very friendly warden and the site is open and clean the toilet/showers are very much in need of an upgrade and do not meet Caravan Club standards. There were also a lot of children on bikes whizzing around, not only on the roadway but on the grass between vans. Sorry but we will not return.

Here again

The location and access to some of the most beautiful countryside and villages in England will always encourage us to return.  Our welcome was mcuh warmer than usual, the rather brusk directions of so many site wardens seemed to have been mellowed.  Rules are important but perhaps the club, in its training programmes, needs to reinforce the need for recognition that visitors are club members using their facilities and paying for them.  Wardens are staff first and foremost but happily most become friends and supporters of a mutually approved lifestyle.  Black Knowl does need a refurbishment of the toilet and shower facilities but then we all have our own facilites on board.  Thanks to all for another memorable stay.

Discussing toilets and stroppy wardens

On the entrance road my Bailey Motorhome touched the bumps. They are too high for modern low profile motorhomes. I found the lady warden to be rude on my arrival and demanded rather than asked me to move my vehicle forward a bit. There was no one else behind me and really no hurry. We just started to get everything out onto our pitch hen another warden ordered me to leash my dog. She is old and big and was just laying on the pitch going nowhere. He did come back later and apologise, he blamed the senior warden who he said is very strict. Half an hour later another warden came along and said our pup tent should not be on the grass. I told him that I had phoned first to check and I was told it was okay. Again the non existent senior warden was blamed by him. The mens toilets are disgusting!!!!!!!!! I am always friendly in my approach and both my family and I were shocked by the power mad wardens. What I would like to know is why children of all sizes are allowed to speed around the site on bikes at high speed.

Black Knowl

This is the 4th time we have been to this site, and although we still love it, this year we have been very disappointed with the facilities. The toilet/shower block is now very much in need of renovation and doesn't really meet the clubs standards. In spite of this we still enjoyed our holiday although not sure if we would return until renovations have been done.

Kids

This is the 4th time I have been to this site. The location is the best and the staff are wonderful and hard working not least with many children. Some seem to think it is good to ride around the toilet block!! and ignore the one way system should a child be hurt it will obviously NOT be the childes fought but why do the parents allow them to spoil other peoples holiday. Once again thank you to the staff A wonderful place.

Great location

Our 1st visit although my husband came here as a child 40 years ago. He was very pleased to see original and unique toilet block but agree the internal elements due an upgrade - just hope actual building and individual shower rooms kept. Wonderful location - we walked the solent way using the train for some elements of exploring. Also cycled to burley and Lyndhurst whilst my husband did several longer rides including new forest exercusion audax 200km. We look forward to returning to this wonderful site with excellent wardens.

Nice location

The site is in a great location and very quiet at night even though it is often full and very busy.  Many children on bikes , some seem to think it is good to ride around the toilet block!! Will come back , but not in peak season.

Great Location

The location of the site is fantastic, in the middle of the New Forest and close to Brockenhurst.  There are so many places to visit nearby and great walks and cycling on forest paths.  It is a great location to take children.  It is lovely to see the ponies and other wildlife as you travel about. The site is quiet and peaceful, although a little cramped for our liking and the pitches quite open. We were initially disappointed in the standard of the toilet facilities, but refurbishment is planned, and hopefully will be up to club standard before too long.  The CC Wardens were great and worked hard to keep the toilet facilities clean and working.  We soon got used to the toilets and certainly did not spoil our holiday.  The concept of self contained shower rooms is great and ideal for families with children

In the heart of the Forest

The Ponies etc, of the new forest are contained by a system of cattle grids, so that they do not wander off to Dorset. This campsite is within that area, the site has a cattle grid, but once through the exit you are amongst the animals. (not always the case, some site are off on the periphery, lucky if you see a rabbit). Once over the site cattle grid you are in forest and meadow, and your dog can safely go off lead. Miles of walks in every direction.  WARNING..if walking in the forest dawn or dusk, especially after a damp period, wear jungle formula insect repellent. I got bit to pieces walking the dogs. Gnats not ponies. Usual first class CC staff and quality of site. The first thing we were told was an apology for the yet to be rebuild toilet shower block. Although dated they were immaculate, Numerous individual shower rooms each with a toilet, sink, shower etc. Highly recommended.

Great site - refurb on the way!

We have just spent 2 weeks on this great and peaceful site, went to the New Forest Show - which was is in walking distance. At last the toilet block looks like its going to be refurbished - at last!!! It's now looking rather tired. Dog walkers please note - let your dog off the lead on the common as the access road is a ROAD not a path. We were confronted by an arrogant women telling us to slow down as her dog was going to the loo in front of us while she ran towards us saying "I'm not used to cars going so fast " I was in 1st doing 8mph!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Control your pooch please in the correct area. We will be back next year sure.
