Arrived 15th July. We received the warmest of welcomes from Karen and Paul, who were so helpful in recommending and securing the best pitch for our needs. The site is beautifully laid out and maintained and facilities are first class. Outstanding in every respect. What more could we wish for?
Visited Herstmonceaux Castle and Windmill, Battle Abbey, Great Dixter, Pashley Manor and Gardens, Michelham Priory, also Robertsbridge historic village ... all excellent! Also rang church bells at Battle, Hailsham and Salehurst.
Left on 20th July; we bade a fond farewell to Karen and Paul - just like saying cheerio to good friends ................ and hope to see you again very soon!!
The site is in the grounds of a former manor house. Surrounded by a variety of mature trees, pitches are a good size and well maintained. Our pitch was near the North shower block and close to the A271 that runs North/South alongside the site. Whilst generally quiet, some vehicle noise can be heard during the day. Facilities are modern, clean and well maintained. The site is part of the Normanhurst estate. Following walking guides provided by the site, we visited Catsfield and Battle (cycling is not allowed on the Normanhurst estate). Both areas are accessed from the site along wide gravel footpaths through the estate. Walking for around 25 minutes, we arrived in the village of Catsfield where we enjoyed a drink in the White Hart Inn garden. On another day, we walked through the estate to Catsfield and then on to Battle, a journey of around an hour. Part of the walk is on a footpath alongside a ‘B’ road. The majority of the walk is along the 1066 trail consisting of a wide gravel path through the countryside. In Battle, we enjoyed lunch in one of the high street tea rooms. We then visited the 1066 Battle of Hastings Abbey and Battlefield within the town centre; a great historic site cared for by English Heritage and thoroughly recommended. Now for a rant (outside CAMC’s control). The roads in and around Battle on route to the CAMC site are riddled with the worst pot holes I’ve driven over/around so be prepared to ‘dance’ around these irritating craters.
We stay here frequently as it is one of the best sites CAMC have. The grounds are fantastic, being in the gardens of an old house, sadly not there anymore. There is plenty to do and see in and around the area. The staff are wonderful, always cherrful and very helpful. They keep the grounds in perfect condition.
Would recommend !!
We recently stayed at this site for a week and would highly recommend it. The site is a located in a fantastic area to go and explore places around whether you like the beach, Forest walks or many other places.
The site itself is run by fantastic, helpful and friendly staff and it's a very quiet site which is well maintained. The toilet block is also kept very clean and spotless which makes it a great facility to use
I have recently stayed on this site with my sister who has never caravanned before although I have stayed on this site several times. The site staff seemed to have paid even more attention to detail so making our stay even more enjoyable. We especially loved all the hanging flower baskets at reception - a lovely welcome on entering the site. Staff were always helpful and cheerful. Our pitch overlooked the surrounding fields and we loved to watch the rabbits running around. Facilities were always clean and well kept. We had a wonderful relaxing stay and will certainly be back. Thank you.
Having travelled further afield, this site came late to our stops. First visit about 5 years ago made a big impression because of the layout, location and perfect specimen trees. The site is on the footprint of a Victorian mansions gardens and is spread acros discreet areas where only a few vans are visible, so does not look crowded even when busy. The local town has enough to visit has has Bexhill for the De La Warre pavillion.
This year has new wardens who seem to love the site as much as us, the facilities are always spotless and the wardens are on top of the endless pruning and grass cutting. Ke=aren was particularly helpful in recommending Ffenches fishmongers and butchers in Battle. We have been there before so know their produce is good.
We alternate between walking ti Catsfield to visit the White Hart and travelling on the bus to Battle or Bexhill, leaving the van on site. The estate road leading to Catsfield takes about 20-25 mins and passes more superb trees as well as fields with sheep and horses.
It;s a relaxing place and the Spitfires from Goodwood and Biggin Hill pass over on their way to carry out Battle of Britain flights at the coast, so listen out for a well tuned Merlin engine.
One of my favourite sites on the network and a complete delight with the new wardens who's enthusiasm shines through.
We would like to thank the staff for their attentiveness to our every need. Starting with arrival, when they asked what kind of pitch we liked; then pointed out various pitches for us to go and see, before choosing which one we would like. They were kind, friendly and helpful at all times during our stay. The site itself is unique and we loved the different areas, which would suit a couple like ourselves, a family or families/groups of people travelling together. The facilities were clean and had everything we needed. The site is well located to visit nearby Battle, which is lovely and Bexhill at the coast. There is a fabulous Pub in Catsfield, that you can walk to from the site, which stocks an amazing selection of Whisky and Gins. We will definitely be visiting again soon !!
We have just returned home after 10 nights at this site having had a great time. The whole site is well cared for, one of the best we've been to! The staff were so pleasant, friendly and helpful. Beautiful hanging baskets and pots, lovingly cared for by the team, despite the best efforts of the rabbits and the lack of rain! Service points, shower blocks and pitches very well maintained. We did notice however, as at other sites, some dogs are allowed to wander onto pitches (vacant or occupied) as not kept on short leads! We would however highly recommend this site.
Booked this site ; for a short break . Notified them of a possible late arrival - was pleasantly surprised to get an email back thanking us and wishing a good journey .
Staff were very attentive; and friendly speaking at all guests on site . They were always busy doing something - yet always smiling and saying hello .
Facilities were always clean - despite it being the half term break .
Would definitely return as it is now a much improved site from years past .
If you are “adults only “ recommend the pitches away from the playground, for a very quiet and relaxing stay .
The Rhododendrons this time of year are spectacular; and create a lovely vista around the whole site .
We liked it so much - we stayed an extra 5 nights !
Thank you team Battle - plan to visit again soon!
Very well kept site, wardens always friendly, helpful and always can find time for a chat, been there several times before and enjoyed it every time, two small gripes though, gripe one: the trees could do with lopping and thinning out, very shady site on most pitches when we went in May. gripe 2: the tv signal is not only poor but hit and miss, several times during the week I needed to re-adjust my aerial to find a signal, this gripe is actually directed to any of the Caravan Club sites where the tv signal is weak BUT no booster point on the EHU post, put a booster system in please...Caravan Club take note
