The latest of a number of recent visits to this site. There is no other like it for proximity to such a vibrant city.
Sadly it’s a minority of members that let it down.As a responsible dog owner it is mind boggling to see others allow theirs to openly c…p on the site whilst chatting to neighbours.Perhaps a prerequisite of membership should be a literacy test (for the owner) !
The wardens must be recognised and commended for their fortitude during Covid. They and the site will be missed.
Saying my last goodbye to this lovely site: It's all about location
I have had my last stay at Baltic Wharf, assuming no further reprieve. The major road works on Cumberland Road, with heavy machinery, are noisy. I was pitched on the penultimate row before the waterside, but the clattering and banging was still quite noticeable in the early morning stillness, but I cannot say it was a significant disturbance to me. It might disturb those nearer the road. Entering the site requires care and you can only enter and exit from and to the City side. I gather some had had scrapes, but equally some had turned up with outfits bigger than advised! 8m vans or 12m car and caravan. There is a traffic light control to exit the site. For me, Baltic Wharf is all about location, which is truly wonderful and shall be sorely missed; otherwise, the site is small and cramped and has a claustrophobic feel. The majority of outfits were motorhomes, which is just as well. Cars belonging to tuggers were, as always when I come here, parked with no discernible order whatsoever and some were closer to the neighbouring van than the caravan they belonged to. I saw one car parked on communal ground. Personally, my need for neatness and order is such that I dislike this chaos, but that is the nature of this site and one has to get on with it. The wardens were just superb; they organised the hectic arrival melee on the Sunday perfectly and had to be continually conscious of keeping the main road clear. I was very appreciative of this and also Nick’s kind visit to see that I was settled as well as their help in other ways. I walked to the location of the new site. I have seen talk about the proximity of the new site to the present site, but I wonder how relevant this is. Presumably, the point is made to promote the notion that people can still easily access, on foot, the floating harbour or places like the M Shed, SS Great Britain and even the city centre. The walk from Baltic Wharf is about 15 minutes, through not the most salubrious of parts, and some of this journey involves an uninviting, dreary, uneven, overgrown, unlit path including a dilapidated, graffiti-strewn footbridge, with slippery wooden steps, over a single line railway. Even on a warm July day it was far from a pleasant walk and, at night, it would be a scary challenge. Perhaps there are plans for an alternative or improvements. I hope so. The suspension bridge is very slightly nearer, but only to the west side of the gorge so, to access Clifton, you need a head for heights – not something I could manage. The city centre is too far to walk, there and back, for most I suggest; those without cars (or bikes) will need the bus; the Portishead buses do pass the entrance or, if you take the aforementioned grim path, you can reach the route of the Long Ashton Park and Ride. I am sure the new site will be lovely and welcomed, but it won’t be a substitute. Just a different site with different qualities. There's no doubting that the loss of Baltic Wharf, after 35 years, is terribly sad.
Oh, what a shame it is closing.
Just returned from what is likely to be our last visit to Baltic Wharf this weekend. Heartbroken that it is closing. OK, its a bit of a car park site, OK there is some city noise (and some construction noise at the moment but not during the weekend) but its location, location, location. We have frequently taken our seats (and perhaps a glass of wine or two!) and sat out on the floating harbour side just outside the back gate and watched all the comings and going, little sail boats, stand up paddle boarders and the Matthew making its harbour trips. We have enjoyed the social interaction on the steps by the Cottage Inn (pre-Covid) with all its good natured fun. Doing a "lap" of the harbour is our Friday afternoon thing after we have set up for a quick weekend. This weekend we checked out the location of the potential new site. Obviously nothing compared to Baltic Wharf but its only a 10/15 mins walk from Underfall Yard so its not a total loss. Still hoping that Baltic Wharf will get another stay of execution but the journey in through the city centre due to the roadworks on Cumberland Road is just a nightmare for us. Goodbye lovely Baltic Wharf, we will miss you.

Here again.
Always good to get in here before it closes.some noise from roadworks just outside site.also makes it a tight turn.traffic lights favour road so wait a while to get out.
It's to be hoped builders are delayed again and site remains open for longer.nice to sit on walkway watching boats.
Site clean and tidy.no shower curtains so watch where you put footwear.city busy as usual.take care to stay safe.
Great location
Amazing site for visiting Bristol lovely walks around the harbour or into the city also Ashton Park and Clifton staff are always helpful and friendly
Awesome!
Brilliant site. Brilliant location. Gutted I didn’t book sooner and more often! The cover wardens were there when I stayed and they were lovely. Friendly and helpful. I think one was Deb.. I can’t remember her husband’s name. Really enjoyed my stay. I hope the new site has a similar location
Horrendous Noise
Pretty little site, as everyone comments, great for walks along the river etc. Friendly wardens but the noise from the roadworks outside is deafening from about 7.30am. And continues all day. I know the work has to be done but I was glad to leave
Great site for a Brizzle City Break
Staying at the Baltic Wharf site game us a wonderful opportunity to meet up with friends and especially my daughter who lives in Bristol and we hadn't seen her since Dec 2020.
Marvellous location close to the city which meant we could walk everywhere, including my daughter's house. Great for visiting the sights of Bristol and walking along the harbourside was so interesting.
SS Great Britain is very close and well worth a visit. We also visited the Arnolfini gallery and MShed. So many great places to eat too. The Olive Shed and Mud Dock near Wapping Wharf were good finds for eating.
The location was excellent for standup paddle boarding as we could launch right out side the site gate onto the Harbourside. We also walked over to Ashton Court and over the Suspension bridge. Some lovely coffee shops over in Clifton.
The site was so much quieter than we expected given its location in the city. Facilities excellent and clean. We will definitely visit again.
Amazing site to explore Bristol.
As in my title Baltic Wharf is an amazing site to explore Bristol but we are sad because it is our last time. Hopefully the new site will get the councils approval. Don't know what Councillor Jack M Bosdet would say about the closure !!

Ideal location for visiting Bristol
Spent a weekend at Baltic Wharf. The location is ideal for visiting Bristol, a walk along the river past SS Great Britain takes you right into the city centre. There are roadworks outside so you have to follow diversion signs ,but it was easy to find. The turning is a bit tight but our 7.4 m motor home could get in easily.
There was a bit of noise from the roadworks but they finished by 6pm and didn’t work on the Sunday.
The site is compact but there is enough space between pitches, the electric points can be a distance away but the lead reached there. The only criticism is there are only two water points so there can be a wait to fill up with water. Didn't use the site toilets but they looked clean .
There is a locked gate that lets you out onto the river walk ,this helps to make the site feel totally secure.
Bristol was an interesting city to visit with plenty of places to eat.
Am sorry this site is closing as the location is ideal for a city break
