This site is in such a great location with shops and a hotel for meals just 5 minutes walk away and a beautiful country park on the doorstep to explore on foot and by bike. It also has very good public transport links with a good bus service to nearby coastal resorts and a train station just a few minutes walk away. The site itself is lovely - lots of trees and planting - has a more informal feel than a lot of the club sites. To top it all the wardens are friendly and helpful and it was a great price.
nice clean well looked after site. toilets and showers good. hand saniters available. have been there 3 times (. in last 18 months.) friendly wardens. downside is pitch markers unclear ,hard to find in semi dark or during rain showers ,( badly marked ). not really child friendly , nothing for them to do . . pitches mostly in shade , so many trees. lots of drips to keep you up all night. site has a damp feel to it due to being in a woods. On the plus its great for dogs , massive park and woods on the door-step. good for walkies. not much to do in Markinch itself , theres 2 shops well stocked for food supplies. public house was closed on my last visit (covid-19). great site if you want to chill out and laze about in peace and quiet . not advised for adrenalin junkies and party-people. suits me though , and i will return (if i can get a booking ).
NB: I Have no idea if it is good for families but have to give it a rating! Please change that CMC...it should't be an essential cos a great many of us will not know!
Anyway, a great find. Quiet, lots of trees and parkland around, with a selection of pitches (some on grass), dappled shade and sort of different "glades". The usual club excellent facilities (showers and loos open with the coloured band system) and friendly staff.
Pitches are a good size and the bit I was in (a little bit overlooked by houses, but I didn't care) had a little hedge between each pitch...very French municipal style...lovely.
Just a short walk into Markinch which doesn't seem to have much but there was a decent sized high street supermarket which seemed well stocked.
And a really good price - £9ish for campervan and one adult.
my wife and I are currently staying at balburnie site, it is an excellent sit with good facilities ,helpfull staff ,good transport links for public transport. However the jewel in the crown are the staff who keep a difficult site to maintain in 5star condition, they are credit to the club. This our 5th visit to this site and we always enjoy our visits, the only downside is the weather it is like winter.
I was there for three days and had such a wonderful time. The staff are friendly, helpful. The toilets in the shower block were spotless. The campsite was super clean and tidy. Our stay was fabulous and will be returning next year.
This is a lovely site adjacent to Markinch and Balbirnie parkland.
Facilities are first class and COVID secure which in these times is just so important. Leading the way in looking after customer safety it outshines many less caring commercial sites in Fife. There is no noise except that of natural woodlands which the site is within. If you object to hearing owl hooting then this site is not for you. Grey Squirrels roam the site Providing natural entertainment and much joy.
This is really a fantastic site and the only downside is you have to be prepared to travel a few miles for tourist attractions as there is not much In close proximity around the Town of Markinch
All in all it is a return to site and a much served well done to the wardens and team CAMC.
This is a great location for exploring Fife. The site is quite secluded despite the location close to housing. The toilet facilities were spotless and the queuing system to help overcrowding in the block worked well. Our first visit but we will be back.
I’m at Balbirnie right now. Toilets/showers are first class in condition and immaculate as far as hygiene is concerned.
This site is excellent for public transport to Perth, Edinburgh, Dundee, Glenrothes, St Andrews, Anstruther and the beautiful fishing villages of the Fife coast.
All good!
Stayed here recently for two weeks and found the warden and his wife friendly and welcoming. The site is well maintained, although the facilities are insufficient for the current climate. The site wifi is abysmal and were only able to get it outside the site office. We are not dog lovers and as for peace and quiet, the excessive number of dogs made it an awful stay. Dog owners might find their dogs barking at all hours somewhat cute, but we didn't. People allowed their dogs to run free, even watching their animals foul on the grass beside pitches and on the road. Someone had used the ladies disabled shower to wash their dog and the animal had even poo'd in the cubicle and the poo was just left there on the floor.
Having camped and caravaned around the world, this site was a first and for us a not to be repeated experience.
This was our 1st visit to Balbirnie and found it very peaceful in an idilic location. The all grass pitches are great but maybe not so good in bad weather. The toilet/ shower block was restricted due to COVID but were very clean. However cleaning times should be reconsidered as you have to leave the site at 12:00 and the toilet are closed for cleaning. The pitch was a good size and you feel quite private with the small plant divisions in between each pitch. The next visit we will try for a grass pitch. All staff and the wardens very helpful and our problem with the power supply was very quickly resolved. Our fault as you have to turn the plug once connected to the power supply. Great location for visiting many local attractions. Would definitely recommend this site to anyone visiting.
