Quiet country break

This is a small site close to the centre of a beautiful village. It was a short walk to the shops and pubs. Ideal for cycling with routes through quiet lanes to the RSPB at Sandy and to Letchworth in the other direction. The site has facilities to the usual high standard of the club and the welcome was very friendly. May be too quiet and remote for families but it suited us oldies nicely.

Friendly welcome

A warm, friendly welcome from the female warden started our mini break off well. The villagers we met on our walk up into the village that afternoon were also very friendly, as was a lady visiting from another village. What a shame the other carravaners staying on site weren't the same. Despite me saying hello to everyone, only one person responded and I had a pleasant chat with him, but just as he was leaving. The site is good; clean facilities with plenty of hot water, well maintained areas, good lighting and some good walks straight out of the site gates. We like the area and have visited before many years ago and will no doubt visit again.

Tranquility.

Stayed here for 6 nights over Christmas 2016 and had the most enjoyable Christmas in our 'van. It is handy from the A1(M) but do take the recommended route. The entrance and exit off the A505 does need some caution but otherwise access is good and the A505 is a very busy road and is dual carriageway and thus a 70 mph limit. The wardens were magnificent with wine and mince pies to entice us in for a chat and despite the site being full most of the time, it was quiet and the toilet block accessible all the time, except during cleaning time. Cleanliness top notch, as was tidiness of the site and all well maintained. The only thing that I could comment adversely on was the state of the boundary fences and in part, the hedge. These could do with a refurbishment and some additional planting on the hedges. The only noise intrusion was the occasional aircraft making for Luton airport. On the access road to the site was an honesty stall and box where we bought eggs, marmalade and pickle at very reasonable prices.....and very tasty too. Wildlife on the site extends to black pheasants and black squirrels that are unique to the area but you have to be lucky to see them. Ashwell is a delightful village with its natural springs used in the past for drinking water as well as doing the washing. There are still signs of the infrastructure for these. Shops include, a butcher, general store, café, boutique, and also a GP surgery as well as a dentist. A large green in the centre allows for relaxation and recreation during the warmer weather. Overall a 10/10, the only downside from a family point of view is the lack of children facilities but as 'silver tops' this didn't worry us at all.

Christmas break

Super site for our 2016 Christmas break. Only small which lends itself to the peaceful nature of the site. Conveniently located not far from the A1. Only noise was some from the traffic into and out of probably Luton airport quite late at night. Very friendly staff who were conscientious throughout a popular and special bank holiday of attending to cleaning etc. Very conveniently located near to the lovely village of Ashwell which was a real discovery, superb for dog walking in the area. Can't comment on suitability for families as just a couple on our own with 2 dogs. We might be back when the weather is warmer!

Little Gem

Peaceful site in nice rural setting. Excellent walking from site either out into the countryside or into Ashwell Village. The turning from the road into the lane that leads down to the site is a bit narrow and has limited visibility. Club rules about departures and arrivals, if adhered to, will help with prospective congestion but as the site has a large caravan and motorhome storage facility beware on your approach. Some of the hard standings could do with a bit of maintenance, more gravel and grass removal, difficult on an open all year site but not impossible. Site facilities although a bit dated were some of the best kept we have experienced, shower cubicles large enough to dry properly and sufficient water pressure to rinse off. Both sets of wardens were friendly and accommodating. A site to return to.

Great site

Stayed for 2 nights and found the site superb. Very well laid out as well as outstandingly clean and tidy. The wardens are very friendly and helpful. The dog walking paths are excellent and there is a short walk into village for  small shop, wonderful bakery and super pubs. Highly recommended and we will return.

Our Weekend Stay.

We went to Asbridge Farm for a weekend, arriving Friday afternoon/evening. On arrival the staff were very helpful making a good start to the weekend. Although the Ashridge is a small site the pitches were fairly large. If you have a dog, there's plenty of long walks around fields. The site was very clean, tidy and would have been very quite if one of the houses a joining wasn't cutting or planing wood for around 3 hours. This would not stop up staying there again, very nice site.

Our first trip

This was our first experience of caravanning  so our first caravan club  site.  And what a lovely site to pick we had a warm welcome and felt if we had any problems with our first set up we only needed to ask. The site was very quite and very clean the facilities were excellent.  We originally came from the area so knew it well but there was plenty of information available if needed and lovely walks from the site. As we still have family in the area we wouldn't hesitate in staying there again.  Thank you

Stayed here to facilitate the export of a Rabbit!!!!!

The wardens George and Lesley must be getting used to our odd ways by now. Stayed for one night on our way to Sicily as we had to collect daughters rabbit to deliver to Geneva in passing.Lesley had thoughtfully pitched us on the nearest outside pitch to the gate as we had to collect said rabbit at 03-00 and return to hitch up to catch the Eurotunnel at 08-20.Everything went like clockwork and we hope no-one was even aware we had gone.Site its usual super self and on our way back six weeks later we stayed for one night again on our way back "oop north".It is the first time in many visits that we have noticed any aircraft noise, and this presumably because of the easterly wind direction affecting Luton operations, but the aircraft are certainly not disturbing. In fact in the late afternoon we had a welcome short display by one of Duxfords clipped wing Spitfires!! George and Lesley retire from full time wardening in a month to do some well earned touring. They will be a hard act to follow. Hope to see you both sometime at Wyatts Covert. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR CHEERY WELCOMES AND MAKING OUR MANY STAYS SO DELIGHTFUL. BEST WISHES IN YOUR TOURING TO COME.
