We've stayed at this site several times with our Motorhome & are constantly amazed at how easy it is to get to and how simple it is to get into the city, either by train or bus.
There are some fantastic parks on the doorstep for walking the dog or just getting around on foot and there is a brilliant walk to the Thames via a footpath link through parks and edging fields & lake - just amazing.
Will certainly be back !
Booked a short stopover for a Friday night to break a journey to the West Country. Urban route in from the M25 was potentially daunting, however the well signposted twists and turns were satisfyingly exacting. Only one missing was 400 yards from site at roundabout into Knee Hill, but a simple right hander at a roundabout was easy enough. Entrance is in a suburban street, odd but intriguingly opened up into a very normal C&MC site with a very country feel, an amazing contrast that has to be seen to be believed. Greeting, welcome and advice from Jim and Lisa was excellent. Can't be faulted, this is how all the site wardens should be, with a very well run and pristine site without a hint of the regimented style of some....balance is the best we've seen, thank you both. Maybe the C&MC should hold these guys up as an example across the group.....? The advice Jim gave on where to eat for the evening and for breakfast was tip top, amazing value and great food at the Indian and the cafe the following morning allowed us to pitch and head off next day with just unplugging the hook-up and heading off before the inevitable London traffic slowed progress. We were there a little more than 12 hours but will be back to have a proper stay. A gem in suburbia with excellent links into the city, anyone looking to visit London should put this site at the top of the list.
This was our first visit and we spent 3 nights there. The site is easily found (good signage) and a warm welcome was given. We choose the site for the rail service to London and near by cycle paths and were not disappointed. The station was just a short walk away and the service good. We also cycled the Thames path and again found access easy and spent a lovely day cycling up to Greenwich and back. Abbey Wood itself has a park and good amenities close by. The site is fairly quiet considering the proximity of roads and London city airport and the facilities were immaculate. We will definitely be going back. We can also recommend Abbey Wood cafe for their excellent breakfasts!
Stayed In March to visit family near by, a great site in a convenient location.
Was woken by the sound of earl morningnDIY, by woody (woodpecker) heard but not seen.
We will go back.
We booked Abbey Wood for available transport into central London, we tried British Rail and LDR took us approx 3/4 hour either way, will be a lot faster when new line direct to Tottenham Court is in service. Train station walking distance also 180 bus, which we took in one day to get to Lewishsm shopping centre. Sainsbury store behind train station. Ideal site to stop on to visit London.
Every year my wife and I have a weekend break in London, normally staying in a hotel and paying around £300+ for 2 nights. Well this year we decided to take our recently acquired motorhome and stay at Abbey Wood. The two nights cost us around £45, which was a significant saving plus it is a real haven of tranquility in the middle of London's suburbs. plus it has good transport links into the city and surrounding areas like Greenwich.
We used the 180 bus to take us to Woolwich Arsenal where DLR and Overground rail links can be found and visited the Cutty Sark on the Friday afternoon. Saturday we used the rail service from Abbey Wood station into London and had afternoon tea followed by a matinee show (Jersey Boys), stopping in Greenwich on our way back for a pleasant evening meal. Only problem was that there were engineering works and trains were not stopping at Greenwich so we back tracked to the DLR and back to Woolwich and then caught the train to Abbey wood and then it was just a 10 min walk back to the site.
As for the site, its ideal, with very pleasant and helpful staff. the pitches are spacious and mostly level gravel and ours even had an aerial socket so we had a good selection of free view channels.
The wild life is also interesting with woodpeckers, Parrots, squirrels and foxes.
We will definitely use the site again as it ticks all the boxes for use.
This fabulous campsite has trees all around, is grassed, and peaceful, full of wildlife, so it amazing that it is only minutes from the city of London. Just a 5 minute walk down the road to the train station and you can access the whole range of things to do, come rain or shine, from shows and restaurants to swimming pools and saunas, from wildlife areas (London Docklands Wetlands, royal parks) to parades and museums and famous buildings and shopping areas.
This is our second visit and we absolutely love it!
We use this site as a base to get to West End shows. The train is five minutes walk away with a good return service late at night. The site itself has all the usual features maintained to the usual top standard.
