Peaceful site with good transport links to central London

Our first stay at Abbey Wood and if we need to stay in London again this will be our first choice. Lovely quiet site near Greenwich with fast train every 30mins to central London a short walk away. Hard standing pitches are wide and level and facilities are great. The wardens were friendly, welcoming and informative.

Another visit to the changing AbbeyWood

It's been a year since our last visit. The actual site remains a favourite for when we want to visit London, coming from Derbyshire. We use the Dart crossing although the sat nav route from the Caravan Club choosing the route in a motorhome/caravan insists on taking a route through the centre of London itself, so caution required if not visited before and reliant on sat navs. Also, the Dart charge must be paid online by midnight the day after travel or a fine will be incurred. The charge for us in our motorhome was £2.50 single. Now to the site. Its the usual CC, shut half off in winter when it comes to toilet blocks, so pitching with care if you need to use these. Ameneties block does the usual, plenty of hot water, clean tidy, less dos and don't s with these friendly Wardens, brilliant. There is some noise, owls, parrekeets, wood pigeons, foxes etc, well what else do you expect near a wood, lovely. The new station is not fully functioning at weekends and maybe closed, need to check if reliant on trips to London by train on Sats and Suns until 2018. It will be spectacular when complete. There are plenty of buses to choose from, just sit back and enjoy the ride make sure allowing loads of travel time though to ale iate the stress you might feel if held up. The 180 has been running over 50 years and still going, take a walk down Crumpsall street, turning right at the end of the 1st part of CS. The stop is there to see. A large Sainsbury is situated on the bridge, no need for a car, just walk! It has everything one could possibly need for a week or so even clothes if you need a fresh look when taking in a show or two as we did during our stay. Getting back late at night from Central London was easy peasy, we took the train direct to Charing Cross, making it central for our visit to the theatres we wanted. The shows were brilliant and we had a fabulous time, we shall save up and return again soon..

A GREAT TIME WAS HAD BY ALL

We have just changed our caravan and wanted to go away for a couple of days to see that it all worked. We chose a nice cold, damp, snowy couple of days. Just the weather to ensure that it all worked. It did. Now to the site review!! The weather may have been cold and damp but the welcome was warm and friendly; the wardens explained the site to us and where we could go and do some shopping. They also suggested whereabouts to go so that we would be near the open toilet block. What a great start. The site is clean and tidy, the pitches are spacious and the toilets are warm. What more could you ask for. The people we met were friendly and just happy to be away in their Motorhome/Caravan. We traveled into Greenwich by train (from Abbey Wood Station), just a short walk from the site. Had a great time visiting the Cutty Sark (Restaurant / Snack Bar -- I suggest you avoid); it is well presented with lots of supporting material. We came back by bus - what a mistake, I could have walked quicker. I suggest that you use the train unless you want to travel slow on the bus and see the shops. It is all down to personal choice. In summary, A Great Site, Warm Welcome, close to London; choices of Transport. WE will be back.

Little Haven

A hidden little haven! 5th time on this site & certainly won't be the last. A lovely site & excellently situated for easy access to London & in our case to also visit friends in Kent. Brilliant transport links in both directions & only a 10 minute walk away. The wardens are really friendly & the facilities are clean & well maintained. Such a shame then that on this occasion we pulled on to a well situated pitch, levelled up, started to set up when we discovered this pitch had been used several times as a dog poo area. The owner responsible should be truly ashamed of him/herself. After cleaning the sole of my boots we had to pick up the mess..disgusting!! We have still rated this site with the highest scores as the poor wardens cannot be blamed for irresponsible dog owners.

Lovely site

We booked a pitch for our caravan over Christmas. The pitches were well maintained and the site was peaceful, allowing us to enjoy Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day having a meal and relxaing with our children. Transport links were a short walk, with Abbey Wood rail station proving a convenient link to the Tube via Cannon Street from the 27th onwards. The site staff were friendly, hosting campers on Christmas Eve in the site office on Christmas Eve evening, providing a drink and a mince pie and some conversation. The shower and toilet block were well maintaine. The wild prakeets, owls, and foxes along with the trees and the way the site pitches were oriented provided for a relaxing atmosphere. Definitely a site we wish to return to.

Very nice site

We stayed 5 nights in our motorhome over Christmas. We brought our car with us as there is no public transport in London on Christmas Day and no trains from Abbey Wood on Boxing Day and limited public transport on the other days. Was great being able to drive around London with ease.
