Beautiful site

This is a beautiful CL. The five pitches are in a row with facilities at one end. The layout for water and waste is one of the best I have seen on a CL. A warm welcome from the owner and then left in peace for our stay. The walk into nearby Barnard Castle is initially along the main road until the golf course when there is a choice of the footpath beside the road or cut across the golf course via a well signposted path. There is some road noise but this did not disturb us during the night. Access into the site is very good. I would highly recommend this CL

So glad we found it!

Finding Viewforth Meadow was easy with really good access to the site and our pitch number was on a board by the gate. We were given a warm welcome by Phil soon after we arrived. The site is beautifully kept and has four large hard standings and one grass pitch, all of which are separated by shrub hedges, overlooking a wildflower meadow. Phil has planted a copse of various types of trees all entwined with paths and little glades with seats. Perfect for walking the dog or just a wander and a sit in the sun. The water, waste and bin area is clean and easily accessible. Road noise has been mentioned, but I can honestly say it is not a problem and at night the loudest thing you'll hear is an owl. Barnard Castle is a small town just how they used to be and the stunning surrounding countryside is largely unspoiled. If we lived nearer we would be back in a heartbeat.

Endorsements!

All the previous reviews really say it all. All are accurately commending this immaculate CL. It is a testimony to Philip & Clare that they have so many superb reviews. The site is a credit to their dedication to campers and wildlife alike. The attention to detail including in person welcomes is outstanding. We agree with previous reviewer’s comments regarding road noise but it is what it is (will be less noticeable over time as all trees & hedge planting matures over time). All the benefits greatly outweigh some road noise during daytime. Certainly don’t let it deter you missing out on excellent CL.

Windy Christmas 2023....

What a lovely christmas break. We expected rain and we expected it may be cold but what we didn't expect was 60-70mph winds for 12 hours all at once, very exciting it was. The next morning we moved to a pitch where we would be able to put the motorhome cab and the main weight of the vehicle straight on facing into the wind. All this was orchestrated by one Phillip Bastow the owner of the site. Lovely surroundings here with unbelievable drinking water pressure along with a floor grated grey waste access for motorhomes. The black waste looks very new still with a metal hinged cover and hosepipe. Barnard castle was a lovely place with loads of different private shops and businesses along with a backup from Morrisons and the coop. We will certainly return soon.

New To Us, Great Site

Stayed for a short three night break beginning of September 2023 and were really impressed, not just be a great well laid out site, but also the enthusiasm of the owner. We were given a warm welcome by Philip and were quickly pitched and set up. There are four hard standing pitches and one grass pitch, all are a good size and well maintained. The site slopes towards the entrance and you will need levelling blocks, but we had no difficulty getting levelled. All the facilities are in pristine condition and well positioned. There is a lovely meadow and some area's have been planted with shrubs and tree's, with walkways cut through to make an short walk for an evening stroll. The access to the site is good, although we would recommend not arriving before lunch to give departing guests a chance to leave. We were fortunate, we had three days of amazing September weather, although it did break on the final day and we woke to some of the wet stuff. There is plenty of thing to do and see in this area, and even though this is not far from our home, we easily filled our three days. This is a great site and the owners deserve a lot of credit for their efforts. I thoroughly recommend this site. PS I marked low for peace and tranquillity, this was no fault of the owners, the local farmers were busy in to the late evening - it is the countryside and you have to accept they have their work to do.

Beautifully kept

We have just spent three nights here with our 2 dogs. The site is immaculate and a lot of effort has been made to plant trees and make the site attractive. The dog walk along mown paths through the recently planted arboretum is lovely, as is the owner Phil. The water/CDP area is spotless. There are now 5 hard standing pitches, separated by shrubs and trees. These are a bit tight for a van, awning and car but there is a large grass area opposite so they feel spacious. The only downside for us was the road noise. It died down a bit at night but was constant throughout the day, but I do accept that we are very sensitive - others might not be bothered.

A Fabulous Site.

This site is just perfect, the owners have spent a lot of time, thought and money on the site. It's laarge but not massive but the owners have landscaped it with walks and seating in little hidden corners and the views and skies are stunning. The owner is very helpful and cannot do enough to ensure everyone is happy. Its very close to the lovely town of Barnard Castle and Teesdale is full of walks for every taste. Would we go again? Oh yes we would.

COBIE's Report

BRILLIANT C,L. Everything there exactly where it should be, from the pitches to the essential services. Oh and did I mention the personal reception? Philip and Clare you have produced a C.L. which you are obviously proud, and so you should.Well done! Ideally sited and in time your arboretum will do you proud. That should keep members guessing? We enjoyed our stay and will be back! We'll there is nothing perfect in life! and you put up with us. Seriously, lovely site congratulations, an excellent venue in beautiful surroundings. Things of interest to all campers all around even a bus service at the end of the lane ,a pie at the end of the lane for dinner, excellent hostelries within a few miles in all directions.

We stayed for a week!!!

We agree with all the reviews for this CL - beautifully cared for and managed by Philip and Clare who are lovely hosts. The area is truly beautiful and there is so much to visit and some great (and challenging) walks along the rivers and up onto the hills. The site also is on a hill, so it was pretty breezy, but we were blessed with good weather overall. The only reason I have given a four for peace and tranquility is the road is closer than I imagined it to be, and there is some road noise. Not a deal breaker but at times you are aware of it. Would we stay again... yes, as we throughly enjoyed our week.
