Perfect winter getaway

Thoroughly enjoyed our two nights at Viewforth. A warm welcome and helpful information from Philip. Fantastic views, made even better by the blanket of snow that arrived just after we did. A little noise from the nearby road, but nothing to disturb the peace and tranquility of this site. Barnard Castle is a great town to wander and lots of lovely coffee shops. I expect we'll be back. Looking for a Go To location

We were looking for a different go to location, within 60 minutes from home (Teesside). We visited Viewforth Meadow on 3rd March for weekend. After very prompt/polite responses to my booking request from Phil we turned up and was very pleasantly surprised, location was exactly as described, easily found the pitch (which is allocated). Shortly after pulling up then Phil was over to introduce himself, passed over some brief information about some soft parts of the site, the local area and even great advice about local fish n chip shop. The CL Site although is early in its development it will be great to see how it blooms over the coming seasons. We have found our new go to site, which means it hard to give a fantastic review otherwise I may not get booked when needed. That said would be shame to keep this new location to myself, wish Phil and the family all the best with their venture, we definitely returning. Loved our visit!!!

Festive Break

We can't rate this site high enough. Philip was the most helpful and considerate and friendly person we have met at any site anywhere. The site is brand new, and perfectly designed and maintained. There is a newly planted woodland area and each individual pitch has newly planted tress and bushes. As it was Christmas, the site was lit up with small lights in the trees. If there was one criticism the site is quite exposed so one night was quite windy, but you are in the countryside so to be expected. We walked into the local pub a few evenings for a pint, and also had a number of lovely walks especially to see the 4 local waterfalls. We would definitely return, Steve and Julia

Fantastic CL with lovely scenery and amazing sunrise/sunset

We visited on Saturday 21st January - What amazing views from the CL and such a friendly welcome from the owner. Great that electrical hookup is included and the facilities were immaculate with a handy drive over motorhome waste drainage point (note there’s not a toilet or shower on this CL when we visited) There is a great area to walk around the CL and some lovely planting. Also some rescue chickens too. We saw the most amazing sunrise before we left on the Sunday morning. We really enjoyed and would definitely recommend. David & Rachel

A cracking CL

This delightful and well-kempt CL is well worth a visit, it’s difficult not to go into superlative overdrive. Set on high ground just outside Barnard Castle if has been thoughtfully planned and built by the owners, Philip and Clare. From the motorhome service point to the recently planted woodland area, a great deal of thought has been put into everything. Despite the description we didn’t think the site slopes that much but that said levelling ramps are available if you haven’t got any. They even supply poo-bags for visiting dogs! Round and about there are all sorts of places to visit and Philip’s local knowledge was invaluable. We enjoyed some smashing days out and walks amid the spectacular scenery of the north Pennines. One of the many high points is the 149 Fish and Chip shop in Barnard Castle, just down from The Cricketers pub. Everything is cooked in beef dripping, and they do GF too. I haven’t tasted such a good fish supper in years. A cracking CL!

Our home away from home site

We have been caravanning for over 30 years and this was a site to remember for all the good reasons. We stayed here for a week in August. The amenities were excellent and always clean and tidy. There was facilities to recycle and even sweet peas grown that you were encouraged to cut and take back to your caravan to enjoy. The site itself was beautifully laid out with individual plots established with the planting of various types of trees this gave the comforting feeling of having your own personal space. Free range eggs were available to buy and we were supplied with free stewed rhubarb that was surplus to requirements, Beautiful! We were greeted by Phil on arrival and given a map of the surrounding area, given ideas for walks and places to visit in the area. Thank you Phil and Clare for sharing your beautiful site with us, We have already booked our next visit.

Fab Find!

We stayed on this CL for 3 nights and simply can't fault it! The owners were really friendly and, as caravanners, are intent on applying all of their learning to this new venture, making sure the CL has all of the "best bits" from sites they've stayed at. Really close to loads of attractions including Raby Castle, Bowes Museum and High Force and just on the edge of Barnard Castle itself. We enjoyed it so much, we'll definitely be back!

Best CL we have ever stayed on

This CL is in pristine condition and very well priced. A lot of thought and care has gone into the layout of this new campsite. So many nice touches, wildflower areas, a plantation, sweet peas to pick and vases supplied for your caravan or motorhome. The owner is very helpful and friendly, he even made our guinea pigs very welcome. We will be back very soon

Fabulous

We stayed as a stopover en-route from Kent to Scotland. 1 night out and it was so good 2 nights on the way back. This was by far the best site on this holiday and others! The facilities are immaculate and the grounds are just enchanting, with paths and carefully and thoughtfully planted copses of tress and wildflower areas - spectacular! And then you get the double aspect views from your pitch. Countryside, farmland and farm animals as far as the eye can see. From the moment we arrived and with Philip's very warm welcome we felt instantly relaxed and at home and with the holiday feel. Philip is a fount of knowledge for all things Barnard Castle, transport, things to do, walks and wider information on the surrounding area. We walked from the site to Barnard Castle - an hour and half walk from site to Castle. Even the terrier dog, who can be tricky! loved it.... You will need good levelling blocks, but Philip has even thought of supplying some spares - but getting level is easy. If you plan on the awning you will need some robust pegging! However these are minor considerations on a fabulous CL. We could not have been made more welcome or enjoyed our stay more. Thank you Philip and Viewforth Meadow. We will return.

The very ticket!

What a splendid new CL, one that we will definitely return to in the not too distant future. The site lies about 2 mls from Barnard Castle, just off the B6278, the Middleton-in-Teesdale road, has a wide access and a hard-surface drive up past the, for now, grass pitches. There is some road noise during the day but all is nice and peaceful through the night. Each large pitch has EHU, and is separated from it's neighbour by a narrow band of trees, bushes and flowers. Richard, the friendly and helpful owner has over the last 3 years planted a nice sized copse of trees through which is cut a meandering path, past four benches, ideal as a dog walk or just the place to sit and relax, perhaps with a glass of wine on a summers evening. There is a regular but infrequent bus down into the town which passes the gate, and there are a couple of footpaths up the lane from the site. The area has lots of places of interest, such as Bowes Museum and the castle in the town, Egglestone Abbey, Rokeby Park, Raby Castle, which is about 8 miles away, and of course High and Low Force up Teesdale. Apart from a wealth of independent shops in the market town there is a new Lidl and a Co-op fuel filling station at the North East end of the town. One word of caution if approaching the turn off for the B6278 from the town. The road sign is low down on the wall at the turnoff and is obscured by any vehicle waiting at the junction to turn onto the A67, down to the town. Thanks Philip and Claire for establishing such a fine CL.
