Tranquil and scenic with lots to do

As previous reviews an absolute gem. Right from booking by email to paying at the end the owners were fab enthusiastic and friendly. Good directions in book and as described previously a bit tight on approach and pitching. Great pitches and looking very mature and well tended. Fresh water tap is up an incline so long hose needed to fill MH. Great walks in Bow Wood and environs. Cromford canal is lovely and can thoroughly recommend the dog friendly open fire Boar Inn with good beer and well priced delicious food. We will definitely return as so much more to do and see

Make sure your motor mover works!!!

The site is situated directly behind the John Smedley textile factory and was well sign posted with CL signs. We did run into a slight problem as we met a large lorry coming out of a narrow shared driveway! The rest of the driveway is narrow but ok if negotiated slowly. Great looking site with three of the five pitches provided with hedged boundaries - lovely and private! The remaining two pitches were in our opinion a bit small and overlooked. Unfortunately we had a massive problem the day before holiday as our motor-mover had packed up and once we got 'on pitch' we could not turn or manoeuvre caravan or car!!! As all pitches were already full a reverse out was somewhat challenging but thankfully some wonderful 'neighbours' helped push us manually. Once set up the site is quiet and peaceful and a great dog walk about 500m away in the woods. Mobile phone signal is rubbish. A great location for loads of local attractions - we ate out at a dog / child friendly pub - the Hardwick Inn near Hardwick Hall - fantastic grub!!!!! And YES we would return (once the motor mover is fixed)!

Splash Farm - Now a Favourite

We have visited this lovely CL twice now, once in June and have just returned form our second visit. Booking is easy all done via email with prompt replies. Directions to the site are easy to follow from the M1 and the CL sign is visible from the road. The track which leads from the road to the farm is narrow and steep in places, but just take it slowly, and arrive after 12 so the chances of meeting another van are reduced. The CL has five reinforced grass pitches separated by hedges and shrubs so are very private. The layout of the pitches does mean that a motor mover is useful as space to turn is limited, There are views across the valley. The facilities are excellent, fresh and waste water, and the CDP and bins by the gate. There is also a TV point on the EHU and Mick kindly suppliers leads and boxes as the reception is none existent. The phone signal with EE is also very patchy, although you dont have to go far from the site to get a good signal and 4G. Walking directly from the site is endless, Bow Wood, the High Peak Trail and the Cromford canal are all within a few minutes walk. There is a bus stop at the end of the lane and the station at Cromford is about a mile away. Cromford is a small but busy village and can be reached by walking along the canal towpath, (about a mile) it has a well stocked shop, a butchers, Post Office and 2 fish and chip shops. We also ate at the Boat Inn and the food was very good, it is also dog friendly. This is a lovely CL and has become one our favourites, we will definitely use again when in the area.

Love it

Just LOVE it, ease of access, convenient to an adequate bus service, beautiful and peaceful setting with lovely walking, so close to the historic Derwent Valley of Cromford and Matlock Bath and within striking distance of all that the Peak District has to offer I don't know why I'm doing this because I want to go again and again

A cracking little CL

We stayed here back in March 2017 and thoroughly enjoyed it. We arrived late on the Friday so a note left on the gate that gave details of our pitch No and how to use the supplied tv box was a pleasant surprise. The owner came the next morning to collect site fees and give a warm welcome. A lovely CL in a lovely location, this one is deffo on my return visit list.

Wonderful Location, and ideal for visits to Matlock and surrounding area

This is a real peach, lovely location with great views over the valley. The access road is narrow and bumpy but no problem if you take your time. Clear directions left for us and others on the gate. The pitches are all grass and access is not too easy especially for caravans. A mover is very very useful although if you turn around in the yard you can more easily reverse into position. Very limited manouvering space once inside the parking area. TV equipment provided. Very friendly owner. Clear access directions are given in the handbook. Beautiful scenery and easy access to Matlock and Matlock Bath. We loved it.

Little Gem

We've just had our 1st long weekend stay at Splash Farm & will definitely be back.Nestled into the Derbyshire hillside,it's location is perfect for Matlock,Cromford & Crich.Cyclists & walkers are also in a great location. The track to the site needs to be negotiated slowly & if you have a big caravan,it's best to turn caravan around in courtyard before you enter paddock where pitches are,and reverse in.Each pitch is very private & surrounded by hedges but doesn't leave much swing round room.If the pitches were fully hardstanding(gravel)then this site would get full marks from us on everything.Owner is very welcoming & our arrival was very well organised, with a note on gate telling us which pitch to use & where we could find tv booster equipment.

A Gem of a Site

We decided to stay here after dropping our son off at Derby Uni - and we were so glad we did! Our sat nav took us on to an adjacent road, but a quick phone call to the owner directed us to the site. He informed us he had had 2 cancellations as the weather forecast was not brilliant - and this enabled us to pitch where we liked (as oppose to the numbered pitch allocated to us) - so we chose the pitch that gave us an unrestricted view of the countryside. As it happened the weather behaved itself. The owner came to our motorhome mid morning to introduce himself. He was extremely friendly and pointed out to us numerous walks in the local area. The grass pitch was a bit on the wetside - and we were offered a cardboard mat - but we declined his offer. We have booked ourselves in again at Easter we liked it that much. Highly recommended!
