4 night stay - perfect

What a beautiful location. Four peaceful nights spent at this site. The site owner Michael was very accommodating, providing easy route directions and being amenable both with friends travelling in our party who changed their mind twice on how long they were staying and allowing us to stay longer on the day of departure to make the most of the glorious local scenery. We enjoy getting out for a walk, finding a tea room/cafe for refreshments and the then waking some more. This site is ideally located for that with woodland trails, canal towpaths and quiet lanes all directly at the end of the site driveway. Plenty of room on our pitch (Bailey Unicorn with Volvo estate) with hook up and individual water supply. Nice touch by the site owner to provide Freeview TV boosters to all vans as TV reception is not good. That said we didn’t watch the TV, the long walksor exploring the local market towns provided us with sufficient for us. Will definitely be back.

This CL is exactly why we joined the Caravan Club

What a lovely site! It is so well cared for and all the facilities are well maintained. We had a magnificent view across the valley and enjoyed morning and evening sun. Our dog loved the woodland walks from the farm and exploring further afield on the High Peak Trail. There is so much history and industrial heritage like Lumsdale to be discovered. Despite Cromford being a busy place, Splash Farm is an oasis of peace and serenity. The mobile signal is intermittent in the whole area, not just on the site, which we felt was a positive, adding to the feeling of peace.

Another welcome return visit.

We have just enjoyed a most welcome return visit to this lovely CL. Always one of our favourites, and we got some great weather as well for what was primarily a cycling trip for us. Full details around land slip road closure supplied before our booking, so we knew what to expect. Arrival and site just perfect, think a tap at each pitch has now been added since our last visit, so most welcome. Our previous review says it all about this CL, great location, lovely hosts, still a very decent CL price, and just so much to do for walkers, cyclists, history lovers and those who like a bit of retail therapy. Many thanks again👍

First time stay

We chose Splash Farm as it had featured in the club magazine and were pleased with the way Michael handled our reservation. I am surprised at some review comments regarding the road closure. The club recommends checking things before departure and an email to Michael resulted in a detailed response regarding the road closure and which alternate routes to take. There was a welcome note on the gate directing us to pitch 4 which had ample room for our 7.4m length motor home and awning - together with an adjacent private area with a picnic table and somewhere for a rotary airer. The site sits uphill from the John Smedley Mills but within easy walking distance of a bus stop to Matlock, or the Cromford Canal with its High Peak Junction museum and cafe, plus a working 33 foot steam-driven beam engine -a sight to behold. Spent 4 nights here which we thoroughly enjoyed- especially at the excellent pitch fee! Would certainly recommend Splash Farm and happily return.

Not what we expected from a CL owner

First we weren’t advised of the local road closure which we found afterwards that the road had been closed for over 2 years, but no information regarding this was passed on before arrival. On arrival we were met with a note on the gate to take one of three pitches which was fine as we expected to catch up with the owners later that day/evening. Information on the site description says TV signal good but no signal without digi box is available owners told us on the phone they were out cycling and boxes were near to the riding arena after trying several sets to no avail we gave up for the night thinking we would see the owners the following day. After no contact from the owners on the second I made contact at 6pm via mobile phone call to be told a new box was being delivered by the owners a little later that evening- No sign of the owners or box that evening the digi box arrived sometime on the third day whilst we were out. A little disappointed in the lack of communication from the site owners with regards to any local Doctors Vets Hospital or even the amenities on site, the owner wanted paying by either cash or cheque but left no information on where to deliver or leave. This is a shame as in our opinion the owners lack of customer care lets down the beautiful site and surrounding areas. Sorry to be so negative but honesty is the best policy.

Great access to Cromford Canal & High Peak Trail

We stayed at Splash Farm for 4 nights in mid-October 2021. As others have said, the site is compact but most of the pitches have hedging that gives a certain amount of privacy. The access into the site looks a bit daunting but is actually fine, if a little tight. Manoeuvring onto your designated pitches might be a bit of an issue for some larger units but we were a 7.4m long motorhome and access was fine. Although the pitches look to be grass, there is actually reinforced matting beneath and thus are deemed “all weather” pitches. Each pitch has a dedicated electric point and water tap as well as a TV connection point, as there is virtually no terrestrial TV coverage. Make sure that you receive a copy of the site instructions from the site owners as this will tell you how to go about connecting up your TV system via. the supplied Digi-boxes and cables. We didn’t and it was by phoning the owners did we find out what we needed to do! There are plentiful walks & cycle routes either direct from the site or by heading the 10-minute walk to High Peak Junction which is part way along the Cromford Canal as well as the end/start of the High Peak Trail. At this time, the road between Cromford & Lea Bridge is still closed, so the route into the site needs to come from the A615 Matlock to Alfreton Road. The above-mentioned site instructions give all the required information about this. We didn’t get to meet the site owners but they were helpful on the phone and the site was well kept. £15 per night was just about right.

OK site- not our favorite but other reviews show it suits some.

We didn't have a great start to our stay as we arrived from Ashbourne direction, through Cromwell to find the Lea Road was closed so we had to turn around and take a long detour to access the site. Clearly not the fault of the CL although perhaps a prior warning may have been useful. The site was next to a fairly large industrial/ manufacturing site although no noise was to be heard on the site at night so no issue but not quite what we expected after reading other reviews. The pitch was assigned to us and the area was very muddy (Oct) and enclosed by hedges with other vans quite close compared to other CLs we visited. No view from pitch 2 except another van. We had the option to stay a second night but elected to go back to the Peak District park area instead.

Lovely peaceful site

This was the first CL that we have stayed on and what a pleasant surprise. A well made tarmac and hardcore drive winds up the hill to it and the pitches are private and well spaced out. Each pitch has its own tap and TV plug in via a free sat box should you want it. It is a pleasant walk either by the canal or through the woods and over the meadows into Cromford which has a few shops pubs and a chip shop. On the second night we were the only ones there and all you could here was the sounds of the birds. We will definitely be returning.

Excellent stay

Our first main trip since last year. We where looking for quiet, beautiful, relaxing, and we got 100% here. Driving upto the site passing woods on the left following the great signage. We arrive due to covid our names where on the gate and which pitch. All the information in the welcome pack. 5 plots all having there own personal space. All different shapes and sizes. Great bonus individual water tap for your fresh water. Also if you struggle with your tv signal they provide a small box with digi box and leads which help get a signal. So peaceful just the sound of birdsong. There are stables which do not effect your stay at all. Squirrels, Birds and a wood right in the doorstep. Ideal for walks with or without pets. Just at the end of the track is a lovely walk again wooded area with alsorts of wildlife inc deer. So into trips out we ventured down the orad via the canal and old railway path to Matlock Bath great little town takes a hour or so walk but is great to do. Overall thanks to the owners Michael & Teresa for a truly wonderful stay. And we will be booking again soon.

Perfect site

A very quiet, clean site with hedges around each pitch which also had its own picnic table and water tap. COVID precautions in place. There is alot to see in the area and this site is just along the valley from the John Smedley knitware factory which started production in 1784. There is no noise from this site. https://www.johnsmedley.com/discover/ Walks and bike rides are easy from the site eg along the canal path to Cromford
